Since the MasterServer is down at the moment:

1) please take time to request support from GLU by following this link:
http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=5516.0

edit:  Glu denies responsibility for Gamespy servers.  Maybe contact IGN?  Who knows?
read this thread:
http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=5548.0

2) Visit The PLA/SWBFgamers.com tunngle server--details are here:
http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=5511.0
Tunngle is preferred because we can use the rented servers.

3) If you can't figure out tunngle, then try my GameRanger server:

Face book is great as your posts are basically out there for everyone to see. Exerts more pressure to actually do something.

You can also have a go at http://au.gamespy.com/bios/index.html  - Tell them that Glu deny it all and as a consequence their branding if it relies upon honesty and a functioning system, is being flushed down the porcelain.  Good luck.

Might try being nice.

I'm not implying you suggeted otherwise, but, I noticed quite a few flames on thier facebook page, that either got a form letter response or nothing at all.

LucasArts has already ended support for BF1, so a bunch of negative attention might help them decide to not restart the master server at all.

-edit
To be fair, there are a lot of nicely worded posts with no replies as well.

From Gamespy;

Powered by GameSpy; Hi Roland, Lucas Arts no longer supports the game and as a service provider to them we have disabled the game per their instruction.

I'm not sure where to put this, but I've submitted a post to another forum (although they mostly play SWBF2) and have received some questions regarding the master server:

"I don't know much about computers, but I was just wondering... Should the day that the SWBFII servers go down, couldn't PC gamers set up their own private servers, akin to Minecraft? Granted, it would probably be more difficult to connect to then they are currently, but I would think there could be some way. Again, I don't know much about computers, but I would think it would be possible, not sure though. Can I get a second more informed opinion on this?"

Not technical viewpoint; We have two ways of connecting already the game can still be played no differently (in-game) to before, the problem is the majority of 'casual' players aren't going to bother/ aren't aware of the new ways.
I play less now but I'll always be around, lets keep this site and battlefront going. :)

We can run games, just not with a master server set up using "internet" option like gamespy or with gamespy.  LAN option works.  You could mention to the SWBF2 community to plan now for the eventuallity, so everyone knows what the backup plan will be when the time comes.

Thanks!

I got a couple interesting responses.  One was from a player on the PS2 (although he can't play multiplayer on PS2 despite the servers being up) and another from a person developing a Star Wars game (I'll post more information when he releases it).

The PS2 issue involves a patch that is no longer available.  You either have the patch and can play, or you don't and you are out of luck.  The patch had to be directly loaded onto a PS2 and is not transferrable.

I have a PS2 Tunngle LAN server set up, and with the right setup maybe he can play that.  Tirpider is checking how that would work.

The COD4 Galactic Warfare Mod 1.0 is released and looks pretty cool.  Google it and check out the vids.  I have to think that if Disney realizes that there is an oppotunity and market for a modern version of SWBF they would make one.

I have seen vids of that mod before! It's really awesome. Makes me want to get COD4 just for that reason... But yeah though, if someone is willing to suggest that mod as an idea for Disney/LucasArts, like give them a link to a vid of it, I think it might be possible to pull through with that idea.

I let the PS2 player know. :)
He said it was because he was too lazy, lol.

The other guy I was referring to was talking about something else, though (but that mod is awesome, and I wish it were available over Xbox LIVE): "hopefully [he will] have a beta out for [his] game by early 2014!"
