Modded Dedicated Server

I am having a bit of trouble running a modded dedicated server. I downloaded the 1.1 server and installed all the map addons (bfx,conpack,ubc,...) like you normally would, by extracting them into the addon folder (which you have to create).
BUT When trying to join the server it crashes upon selecting a character.
I am also not sure if I need the AAA 1.3 patch for the server as it doesn't make a difference (Server still crashes).

Has anybody here been able to setup a modded dedicated server?

It has been tried several times with low success. Even the times it worked no one joined. The game just isn't popular enough for dedicated mod servers.
The best attempt was made by PyroJockey and this was several years ago when the game was popular - it barely ever saw more than 10 people for more than an hour at a time.
