Well, modelling for SWBF is particularly a pain because of compatability problems. It's still possible, though.

The two links I've posted should get you started on Softimage (formerly XSI). Check them out.

Since SWBF2's just an updated version of the Zero Engine, yes, it will also work. GameToast is primarily SWBF2 modding so you should only worry if you are doing SWBF1 modding.
