Title: Request: adding CP names
Post by: Kit Fisto on June 11, 2012, 10:05:53 AM
Is it possible to add CP names to a level without having the assets?

You could hex edit the lvl file.  This you can do on your mac!

Hex editing doesn't require BFBuilder or ZeroEdit.

Just a hex-editor and the file you want to edit.
(I'm sure there are plenty of Hex-Editors for Mac)

It's a bit involved, but if are patient, it can be quite rewarding.

I think there might even be some .lvl editing threads on the board.

We're getting ahead of ourselves here. I would suggest you start small, by changing damage values, AI values etc Else you will quickly be overwhelmed.

CP name should be very do-able.

Unit33 can give you the name of a hex editor for the mac, or you can just press this link:
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=mac+hex+editor

I *think* cp names are in the core.lvl for the map.

open it with the hex editor, search for the name that it currently in it.
(be sure to back up your original file)
type over the old name with the new one, but be careful, the new name must be the same length as the old one.
the save it, and try it!

How do I do text search?

Look for a menu item that says "search" or maybe "find".

I don't have your hex editor program.  You will need to figure this part out on your own.

You know what, forget it. I guess mac users are not EVER meant to mod in any way.

Buckler would you be willing to make a couple mission.lvl's changing skins like you did with Rhen Var Bridge? It would be only skins and it would be on SWBF2 conversions. Can you do that? ( or anyone else? )

I have the information from sleepkiller.  It will take a bit of time to set it up.  I can do it when I can.
