General / Re: Username Origins?

Well, I started playing under the name Dark_Phantom in JK2.  It was pretty much because I really liked "Phantom" because I thought it was cool (Phantom Menace, Phantom of the Opera, The Phantom... all pretty popular I thought).  I threw the Dark_ in front of it to distinguish myself and a play on the word "Darth".
On a side note, my older cousin liked the name that we kind of formed a "two-person clan" (I didn't play in clans on JK2 because that was just me).  Dark_Shadow and Dark_Phantom.  We did pretty good I thought...

Anyway, I've been attached to the name ever since.  I just shorten it to Phantom in clans because it's just too long with Dark.  Other random names:
Sn!pEr - most commonly used other than Phantom (which isn't often)... also Sn!pErmAx was an alias.
Drone 1 - so I could probe for information from other people without seeming too suspicious.  2nd most commonly used.
{Alpha}Gold Man - this is really me.

LoL, not really.  :moo:

I'm up for this.  I could be either an editor (#1 choice) or writer (#2 choice) or whatever else you need.  It sounds like a lot of fun. ;)

THE PHANTOM MENACE STRIKES BACK! Phantom now holds the record Pac-Man!!

--I know the rule against all caps in the 1st sentence, but we should all be excited and shouting joyously about the end of Buckler's Reign of Terror.

Number 2 and 3 on Pacman.  I WAS SOO CLOSE.

I believe that's him.  I exposed him after I couldn't beat his scores.  Only one person could ever beat me at Pac-man.......

SWBF1 Modding / Re: Help with eras

I will try to recreate this later tonight.  I still think there is something wrong with the mission.lvl.
Ok, the bug with one era levels was a missionlist fix I thought I did through that missionlist.lua.
The other bug I think still has something to do with level naming.  Pick one.  You reference that it says [map abbrev]lcw.  Therefore, your lua must be named [map abbrev]lcw, not [map abbrev]l like I saw you had in your files.
Example:
Game says RHN2lcw, must find lua named RHN2lcw.  All the subreqs and req files must say RHN2lcw, not RHN2l.

Your entire era code must go in there for now so it can load correctly.

Various other bugs I forgot to mention:
1.) When switching from sniper to pistol quickly, sometimes the sniper will keep firing as you fire the pistol...?
2.) Flamethrower does not run out of ammo (oops)
3.) I feel like there are more like this...

This isn't really a bug, but the high height limit can be abused on some maps... it's quite fun actually...
Also, vehicles are not included... yet... that Zam Wessell Speeder WILL get in one of these.
The levels are designed to be kind of even (see Reinforcement count and Unit Counts on the field).  Although the Mandalorians usually will wipe the floor with the stock sides.

In ifs_sp_era, check to see if it is "L",  if I remember right all your levels are just labeled "L", but Late Clone Wars is labeled LCW.  Check and see if what comes up on the Instant Action queue is the same as your lua names.

My fault for not proofreading enough I guess.

Welcome to Mandalorian Wars Beta 1 official release!
Readme:
QuoteMandalorian Wars - Era Mod by Dark_Phantom - Public Beta 1

This is a preliminary version of my third era mod, Mandalorian Wars.  It is a mod that utilizes a third era button and allows you to play as the Mandalorians against any one of the four teams at random.

This mod is only implemented for Single Player at this point.  For multiplayer, the randomizer has got to be deactivated and a more efficient route of implementing host ability to choose what side they want and for clients to be able to go along with that.  It will be complicated to implement.

To install:
Merge the Gamedata folder with your Gamedata folder in the Star Wars Battlefront folder you wish to install in.  I believe that everything is in the spot they need to be for it to be functional just by merging.  If you don't merge, just copy and paste the UNIV folder into Gamedata, replace the mission.lvl (back up your original, but I left stock missions intact so it should be ok) and replace the shell (I left an original shell in there for you just in case).

There are many bugs in this mod.  Hoth is non-functional in Mandalorian Wars so far (working on it).  A couple other maps crash on start (please tell me so I can fix them).  Sometimes locals do not spawn, sometimes they do.
THE BIGGEST BUG:
You can only play one Mandalorian Wars mission at a time.  Therefore, you cannot have 2 missions of UNIVmando in your Instant Action queue.  The second one will crash on start.  I have yet to figure out this bug.  It makes me angry. >:[

As a bonus, Hoth and Endor are now playable in Clone Wars and Kamino is now playable in Galactic Civil War.  Geonosis will be finished... sometime.

Enjoy!

Please tell me any bugs you notice, and I am also looking for people to help me with certain respects of the mod that I can no longer do myself.  Like skinning.  I need more variety with the skins.  There are other things that need done, and if you tell me something you want to do, I can accommodate.

Tech Support / Hard Drive crashes
October 23, 2013, 03:39:25 PM
Does anyone have any suggestions for random hard drive crashes?  I get a Blue Screen of Death after a random freeze (really completely random, no pattern)  :o  I know it is my hard drive because after it crashes, my Hard Drive no longer registers to my computer (well, it kind of does.  In BIOS settings it "exists" and has it's name and everything.  When it loads, it states "No Hard Drive found, Please insert boot disk."

If I wait before turning my comp back on, it is usually fine.  But it crashes at the most inopportune times.  I am happy though that I have been printing off school papers beforehand so I'm not too worried about the waiting part.  I imaged my hard drive after this happened the first time.  I have also concluded that this is not caused by a virus because all my data still exists and I ran virus scanners and they all turned out good, and this is not a consistent problem yet.

Toshiba C655 laptop
Windows 7 Home
500 GB HDD
4 GB RAM (I also use a flash drive to get 4 more GB out of it)
Bought in 2010

Any suggestions?  Just get a new hard drive?  Special tricks that I don't know about even after ripping the darn thing apart last month (no loose cords or wires)?  New computer (it's 3 years old... but that is forever in computer years)?  I hate to dish out that kind of money but I'm a college student who kind of needs his laptop to write papers at least.   ;)

I have also considered just taking a portable jump drive or external HDD and keeping that in a safe place and uploading an operating system on it, and when my HD dies I can still do the essentials (the bare essentials, like check my email).  I can probably partition off some of my external hard drive and dedicate it to my copy of Windows 98 that I have somewhere.

General / Re: What are your favourite Star Wars games?
October 22, 2013, 10:13:56 PM
Well, let's start of with this:
I've played a lot of the games, there are a couple I haven't gotten to yet... but only a couple.
Top would have to be Battlefront 1.

KoTOR series comes in next.  Great stories, and the modders made it even better.  Recommend mods "Brotherhood of Shadow: Solomon's Revenge" for the 1st game and "Restored Content Mod" for the second game.  I'm keeping my eye on the "SWKoTOR 3: Revenge of Revan" fan-made continuation using The Sith Lords' game engine.  The beta of it was awesome, two hours worth of play and he's guessing it's going to be another 20 hours worth of gameplay, complete voiceovers, the whole nine yards.  It's the KoTOR 3 I always wanted.....  :cheer:

Next would be Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2.  Seriously, this game was awesome in Single Player (stupid Dark Side... had to always cheat to finish light side because I was too careless around civilians).  Online was pretty great, it had a great modding base.  The site is actually still used for them and the game was released in 1997 (I think).  www.massassi.net. Still making maps and mods 15 years later.

To round out my top games is the game Tie Fighter.  I loved this game.  I need to go get another disc of it.  It was just epic to me as a little kid to be able to pilot a Tie Fighter or a Tie Advanced or another ship and take it to the Rebels.  Even in the old style it was in, it looked kind of realistic.

Kit, the classic games are awesome.  You have to play those games before you get BF3.  They will knock your socks off, they're great.  At least get Dark Forces 2.  It was ahead of it's time in my opinion.  And I'm pretty sure they have 3d Enhancement mods and HD enhancements and stuff.  I think that you need to download an installer on any newer comp though and you may have to fiddle with your wrapper program.  (I think Tirpider is ok with his XP hehe)

Hmm, that's odd.  Is everything munging correctly?  That should at the very least get you a button to show up.
If you could send me the files, I could look at them and see what I can do.  I need to brush up on it anyway.  Mandalorian Wars is sitting on my computer just dying to get released in beta... those "brush-ups" just haven't happened yet.

I see... Well, seeing as it's a Star Wars Battlefront Museum map, I do kind of feel that we've been a tad in the dark of what exactly is going to me on this map. Apart from a few areas, that is.

If you go back to the museum thread (http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=6438.0).  Basically everything is in here, even pictures in pre-beta.
Of course, maybe it is better to be surprised with some things.  We'd all be bored if all he put in was things that we told him to do.  ;)
