Oh man, this map is brilliant. I don't know what it was you felt you couldn't get across, because this map felt complete to me.
It reminds me a lot of that "Naboo: Isles" (or whatever it was called) crossed with "Ord Mantell: No Greater Glory" but way better!

The map layout is ambitious, but the plentiful vehicles make it less of a trek to get around, meanwhile the attention to detail is just fantastic.
As usual your sides are great.

My only complaint is that it lags on the Mac, but that's why I have a PC too.

Thanks guys! I worked hard on it. This was actually the 3rd or 4th retry because SWBF couldn't handle my original idea: Multiple islands

The planning just wouldn't work.. It took a ton of tweaking just to get it to work on the current two islands on the map. I must have tested the map atleast 200-300 times.. I hope everyone enjoys it though! I forgot to mention that there is an easter egg, so see if you can find it!

Hears a hint:

Yes, that is an effect of the limitations I spoke of.  :'( I did all I could to make it crash less but sometimes computers can be overloaded right when the game starts. Just keep trying and/or set all your video settings to low. It should work eventually.

Found it!
I always wonder why the devs didn't use this ATAT model in-game, it's much better than the grey blob vanilla one.

I love the map!
It does crash when I have high texture and effects on though, but its great!

There are some parts on the map that are GREAT for a movie me and a few other people are making, so I'll definitely use it. (and of course be sure to credit you for the map)

Great map (https://www.swbfgamers.com/Smileys/macx/tu.gif)

I know it's an old topic, but today I was wanting to play this map. I've heard people say it crashes, and that it has something to do with graphics, but the thing is, it crashes before the map even loads. I guess I will toggle around with the options until I can get the map to load, otherwise, something's up.

EDIT - Ok, I had all of my video settings on Medium. It loaded, but when I spawned it crashed. I guess I will be playing this map with low settings on...

EDIT 2 - Well, I played this on low settings. I was able to spawn, until it crashed on me after walking around for 10 seconds. I don't know if it's possible to go any lower, I even had my LOD and view distance super low. I guess this map just isn't playable for my laptop, even though I can play Sereja's Nar Shaddaa with medium effects, and not lag. Weird, but until I get some better computer, then I guess this map is unplayable to me.

I was able to play this map on all low. It isn't your graphics card, since I have the worst none gaming graphics card known to man. Make sure you have stock sides, everything stock.

By stock, would that include skins? Because I have a 212 skin mod on for the reps, and the map itself has it's own sides, I don't see how that would affect me much. Aside from that, I have a custom core and mission.lvl, unless that's the cause. I'l try it out later, if that's the issue.

For some maps with side mods (I don't know why) they call upon the side.lvl in your SIDE folder of LVL_PC. If you have the stock sides (no OC mods either) then the maps should work. You should be ok with the custom core and mission, but if it still crashes remove all mods, OC or not, then try again.  :)

Alright, I'l try that out, I'l see if it works or not. :P

EDIT - Ok, I had all stock sides on, and the map still crashes. Let's see if playing it 'ol vanilla will do the trick.

Sorry for the double post, I have my superstitions about my number of posts...

I played with all stock this time, common and core stock as well. I actually managed to fire at some CIS before they killed me. I probably managed to actually play for a full minute on the map, then it crashed again. I just don't understand. I was playing ALL stock, and it STILL crashes! I can play any other map just fine, it's only this map that crashes!

I guess this means this map is unplayable for me. No idea what the issue could be.

Interesting, I really don't know. That is really the only thing you can do is try it out with everything stock.
Sorry that it didn't work out.

Too many triangles, not enough process. Happens all the time.
Edit: I just realized, you probably don't know what triangles I'm talking about
- I mean the 3D polygon models have too many 'faces' and overloads your game.

If that realy so, it's cud be hard to imagine, how many props, Snake, may put there...
Cud be interesting to see this: it should be much more complicated, then my Nar Shaddaa  :o.
Maybe some screenshots cud be nice ;).

I'm not quite sure how it would compare to your Nar Shaddaa, Sereja (which I can play with no issues), but I will say the map is very large. Give or take it's the size of the Haruun Kal: Jungle map (if you haven't played it, I would suggest doing so if you're up for large-scale land battles). Anyways, from what I can see from the map, it has a lot of vehicles, and lots of land mass to cover. I haven't been able to do anything with the map (due to the crashes), though I would appreciate if someone could put up some screenshots, just so I can get a feel what the map is like, instead of chill around at 1 cp before it crashes on me.

I am at 100% sure, the crash, isn't connected with custom sides or vehicles. And here the easy trick, to check it: just back up any of stock .lvl map files, like bes2.lvl, and replace it, by extracted mod map lvl's, like uta4.lvl. Then just rename it to bes2.lvl. This way you can play with no or stock vihicles, and totaly stock sides, at any mod map. This also, allow you to play mod maps, with no patched game (this how I play mod maps, before get original disk  ;)).
So, this map, crash anyway, even with no vehicles or custom sides...
I remember Haruun Kal: Jungle map, and may say, those map has very far range of visibility distance... So, if the problem, may hiding in this, you need to try decrease visibility range, with your game options...

When I made the map I tried to get as much crap on there my computer could take. Sometimes it would crash, sometimes it wouldn't. What I did was 1. Try waiting a few seconds before spawning (the sudden massive spawn of so many units can cause crash) 2. Try getting to a vehicle fast and getting away from the majority of the units. Sorry for the crashes.. I should have taken into account that my graphics card may be better than others..

Yeah, the map shouldn't crash when loading so it must be on your end.

Well, I figured I would try hosting the map off a LAN server. I set the units to 10 ai, and I must say. I got further than before, actually managed to capture the 3 off land cps, before my game crashed. As much as I liked what I saw, I think this map is just plain unplayable for me. Sorry there Snake. :(

I don't mean to rain on your parade or anything, even though you just got Modder of The Month award.

Sadly, when i start to play, the cis is able to capture 2 cps, then the game crashes.
could size be a matter?

Title: Re: Utapau: Island Assault

The thing i noticed about the map is, there are two command posts that start neutral that the ai doesnt go to. Could they be glitched and cause the ais to crash or the map to "derp out"?
Title: Re: Utapau: Island Assault
Post by: Snake on April 29, 2013, 05:55:59 PM
No, that's just places where the AI refuse to go for no reason at all. The crash is simply from overload.

Could the problem be dual core processors?
i know thats what causes issues with swbf2 sometimes, and perhaps this map too?
i remember gm saying he had a dual core processor, and i do as well.

Yeah, I actually found out my laptop's model. It's an HP Pavilion dv3z. It has a 2.3-GHz AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core ZM-84 CPU, if anyone thinks that's good or bad. :P

That's out of my realm of knowledge, I'm afraid. (Many things are  :P )

It could simply be that you guys got the worse end of my Mod Tools Curse. It has been known to attack random people. (Usually, just me)

Too many AI on a map that's too big. Some computers just can't handle it.
