Title: Hello from China
Post by: Led on May 13, 2012, 01:22:14 AM
Been doing the site seeing thing.  It's extremely smoggy here.  I have internet, but the Great Firewall of China blocks certain things--facebook, gametoast, and regular old Google.com.  It was painful to upload this picture, so I can post more later.

Good to see the forum has not burned down (yet) while I'm gone  ;)

I could have had this for lunch!

Ooooh exciting.
Whatever you say, don't say "Fei-fei duh pee-yen".
Or "Da-shiang bao-tza shr duh lah doo-tze"".

QUESTIONS
Do you know any Chinese? If not, are you getting by without it?

The person I am here to visit is showing me around, otherwise it would be tough.  There are a lot people here that speak English though, so I suppose one could manage.  I can go to the store and buy things on my own (when I am brave enough to cross the street!).

You definitely don't want to try to drive here--it's really pretty crazy, at least compared to the US.  The taxi drivers are insane, and the lines on the road for lane markings are just for looks.

The only Chinese that I know are the words for hello, goodbye, and thank you.

Later this upcoming week, I will see the Great Wall and something called the Summer Palace.  It is a very large city indeed.

And, I'm not sure who's Hippocampus that is!

oh, I see your xfire message, unit33.

I am actually doing a remote desktop into one of my computers to access xfire.  I don't have it installed on my laptop.  I suspect it would work from here though, if it was already installed.

I had issues downloading skype from china.  I had to download it on my remote computer and copy it to my laptop.
