This IP addresses in this post are outdated. See the SWBFspy forum for details.
There are two ways to access a new internet master server.
You can get a new game exe file and replace your current one, so that the new master server is accessed.
Or, you can just edit a text file on your computer.
This tutorial show you how to edit a text file called "Hosts" so that you can access the new master server.
What you need: be logged in as administrator, or else have someone help you with the administrator password from your non-administrator account.
What you should do first: set file extensions visible and set operating system files and hidden files visible.
Do this by going to (on win7 or pretty much the same on XP):
-control panel
-appearance and personalization
-folder options
-view
select "show hidden file, folders, and drives"
then uncheck "hide file extensions for known types"
then uncheck "hide protected operating system files"
OK, now open windows explorer.
Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
Right click on hosts
select open, then open with notepad
Add this stuff:
185.101.93.68 swbfrontpc.ms4.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 swbfrontpc.available.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 available.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 master.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 swbfrontpc.master.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 motd.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 key.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 peerchat.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 gpsp.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 gpcm.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 natneg1.gamespy.com
save and close
make sure it does not save it as "hosts.txt" It has to be just "hosts"
I have attached my hosts file if you want to use it. Usually nothing else should be in this file. Sometimes computer viruses use it to hijack your browser, so if there is something there you may want to investigate further. Of course you can always back up your original hosts file by making a copy.
If you are not on an administrator account, open notepad as administrator--see this link

Thanks Oldsnake for suggesting and helping with this tutorial.

thanks Led here is what my windows 7 hosts file looks like after making the changes.
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

185.101.93.68 swbfrontpc.available.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 available.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 master.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 swbfrontpc.master.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 motd.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 key.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 peerchat.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 gpsp.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 gpcm.gamespy.com
185.101.93.68 natneg1.gamespy.com
Also please note that this will send ALL gamespy requests to this new master server. Since gamespy is shutting down it should not be a big deal, but if you other favorite gamespy game is getting a different new master server, then there will be some conflicts and I suggest using the modified exe file instead.

I've seen servers filling up like pre-shutdown days, why? didn't all those people have tunngle too? Was tunngle that bad for some people?
It could use tunngle but it gave me some really annoying problems.

I never got it to work for me.
this might be useful to me later
Alright, so a friend of mine seems to be having trouble with it. I guided him through the process, but for some reason the file won't save. It says he has no permission to save in this location. He's the sole account user on the computer, so he must be using the Admin account for this.
Alternatively, I tried to replicate the process for him (to see where he was stuck on), and I wound up with a problem saying my file path was wrong. Any ideas? (Not for me, but for him.)
What OS ? win 8?
There may be a setting to "protect" operating system files.
If he's having issues editing the hosts files, I'd recommend u to use the modfied exe file, which u can find in this website: http://gameshare.co/gamemaster
Also if he plays swbf2, I strongly recommend to use the modified exe, as he'd have to change the hosts file everytime.

Thanks for the responses. Kiwi actually remembered we had to go into the etc folder properties and uncheck the Read-Only feature there. :slap: Once we realized that, Buck had accidentally closed everything, so I guess we'll go back to trying the exe again. What made us do the hosts edit was because for some odd reason the bwink32 notice kept popping up when Buck tried to do the exe thing. Not too sure what the problem was, but hopefully Sam can talk him over the steps better than Kiwi this time around.

If that was happening he put the exe in the wrong place. Have you checked out the tool I made for installing the exe for you?

So from the looks of the american host files, the difference is you just need to add a "2" where it's needed. My question is, couldn't you add both variants to the same host file? Or would you really need to just add and remove a "2" each time you wanted to play either game?
I'm not sure, I'll be able to tell u once i test it myself.
But if the subdomain changed it might be because of something. It's like if i write: www.battlefront.uef-clan.com and www.battlefront2.uef-clan.com
I'll let u know ASAP, anyway....

So my SWBF1+SWBF2 arrived , about time huh ?
The new masterserver is for both games ? I should put all 22 lines into my hosts file yes ?
Cheers much !
EDIT: Well .. both games firstly say make a GS account .. I don't .. it's 'busy' but only 0% and see no servers on either games
This information is outdated.
Please see the SWBFspy forum for details.
