This stems from a little side project I'm doing. I wanted to recreate the Outpost Beta map from SWBFEA for the original game (in particular, I want it as a second Hoth map for the second phase of Legacy).

Here is what I have so far:



(If you're wondering the map is from a Prima Games guide for EAFront and I'm using it to position the elements - texturing will come later)

Would anybody be willing to participate in a full-blown remaking of the EA game's maps into the original game? It would be tricky and while this would be my first map, I'm only doing it because I've become fairly familiar with modelling tools and ZeroEditor lately. I would recommend anybody who wishes to join such a project should know how to map already and be able to create their own objects (I want to shy away from using EA's models where I can as Hoth already has quite a few things I can use over EA's models)

NOTE: I am not suggesting remaking the whole game. That would take a lot of time and I don't think all of the maps are that great (I hate Sulphur Fields and Goazan Badlands myself). Just a few. For instance, I would love to see Sullust's Imperial Hangar map done in SWBF1.

How do I adjust the brightness of a map? I've been fiddling about with Sereja's Hoth map and the map comes across as too dark.

I seem to remember there was a fixed version of ZeroEditor that allowed for you to edit the boundaries (the stock ZeroEditor crashes when you try to use the boundary editor).

I noticed SWBF1 has the ODF line for enabling critical hits against vehicles in the same manner as SWBF2 but it is commented out. Has anybody experimented with whether this line functions as it should in SWBF1?

Here's is the unfinished prototype Coruscant map from SWBF3 posted by thelegend, converted to SWBF1 by me. At the moment, the meshes are textured (though I would suggest altering some to be more accurate). It also has unfinished collision and only two command posts. But it should be enough to work with if you want to bring this into SWBF1.

SWBF1 Modding / EXE Memory Pool hacking

I've had some discussions with regards to this before. However, I would like to bring this to a wider audience in the hopes somebody out there might be able to help.

Basically, I want to alter the memory allocation for models/animations. Right now, I know that the model memory is handled by RedEngine, and that there are two hardcoded limits: one is a 'lower limit' of 16MB. Once this is surpassed, any additional models loaded start changing into their low-res formats. The upppr, absolute limit is 32MB. I found this out thanks to SPTest, which thankfully is not as encrypted as the main executebale.

Is there anybody with the know-how who can change the values to something a little more compatible with modern systems? I was thinking 80 MB lower limit with the upper limit of 96. That should be sufficient for using much more detailed models. This used to be the sort of thing BattleBelk could do but he has long since disappeared and we have no way of contacting him.

Can anybody tell me how to achieve certain texture effects on weapons? Like the light relfection in the lens of the scopes, or scan lines etc.

It's confirmed to be happening with content from the Sequels though I'm guessing it will also have GCW content too, but no mention has been made of the Clone Wars or single player (they should have learned their lessons from this game on that regard)

Released Assets / TFU Stormtrooper set

So, after the Disney amendment of the EULAs of many games (details here) I did a port of the TFU Stormtrooper to SWBF2 (technically it's the TFU2 one but they're the same model). I did a few variants of the Stormtrooper based off the new EA game as well, including the Shadow Trooper and Shock Trooper.

As many of you will know, a while back I tested out a conversion of the DICE stormtrooper units for Star Wars: Battlefront II. That test was to test just how far we could push the engine. Given the fact it is a recent game, there were a few issues rolling around in my mind. I talked these issues over with Led, and we came to an understanding. So, here I will set out what is best for these assets.

MODELS

I'll break this down into sections:

Units

Obviously, as the stormtrooper models were a test for anybody to try out, it's okay to use them in a mod. However, it is not going to be a wise idea to convert too many units from the new game to the old ones. So, no total conversions. If you need, say, the Tatooine Rebel helmet, or the Jump Trooper jump pack, then that would probably be fine, but as far as anything else goes, try to find alternatives first. For the most part, many things have already been done with regards to units in SWBF before the new game came out, so you should not need to use much here.

Weapons

Weapons are a slightly different case, though my suggestion about looking elsewhere first still counts. There are weapons in this game that are safe to use. But my advice here would be to use the LOD/Third Person versions. For instance, the DLT-20A on Facepunch has both the first person and third person models, and the third person model has 5 different LODs, each with varying detail levels.

Map elements

There are certain map elements that are not yet available elsewhere which it should be okay to use, but don't go overboard with this. Do you really need those super-HD trees from Endor? Probably not.

TEXTURES

From what I gather, textures in the new game are somewhat tricky to work with anywy. A lot of what's there we already have in some form, so try to use as little as possible.

SOUNDS

Sounds are sometimes a sticky issue. I know this game has some unique sounds not found elsewhere, but again, if you need them, make sure they're not elsewhere first. You should not need to take many in any case: you don't need 100 explosion sounds, for instance, when the game's stock explosion sounds suit for most purposes.

Regarding music: it's not necessary to use any music from the new game, really. The stock music should do just fine.

SUMMARY AND ADDENDUM

In summary, use as little as you can.

GameToast has a blanket ban on assets from any game less than ten years old from games that are less than ten years old without Disney's new EULA (read about it here). Led has said it's okay to release mods using these things on here, but I would strongly advise against posting anything about it on GameToast.

Is anybody able to slow down the walking animations for the AT-AT? I need them slowed down to about double their current speed, which would be more accurate.

Here is a complete rip and tagging of the entirety of the common.lvl sound bank for SWBF1. Thanks go to id-daemon on ZenHax for creating the program that neatly extracted the sound effects from the game. I went file-by-file, using the stock .sfx files as a reference to rename all the sound effects. This includes some unused sounds that were not commented from the game but were still included in the common.bnk file (IE the AT-ST chin fire sound, the IFT turret firing sound and the Gonk Droid death sounds to name a few), as well as the sounds from the Jabba's Palace addon. In total, you will find 1,555 sound effects in this.

There are still some sounds that are missing - these are the ones munged directly into their respective sound.lvl (IE the sarlacc and Rancor sfx). I'll look into retrieving those later on.

#soloplayersmatter is a hashtag movement created by joeybmx7 on the EA forums and has gained quite a bit of traction. It is exactly as it sounds: the group wants instant action in the game. That is to say, they want the online modes available to play offline.
