Do you think we should have a starfighter tournament?
Option 1: Yes,let's give it a try!

RULES
-Each round will eliminate 1 player for each duel.This will happen untill we have only 1 player left: The winner;
-Both players will talk and post in SWBFGamers Starfighter Tournament Week 'X' about the maps, date,time,and sides they will pick;
EX: Match 1: Map Bespin Platforms
Player 'A' will be Emp, Player 'B' is Rebs
Match 2: Map Islands
Player 'A' will be Cis, Player 'B' is Clones
-After this one of the admins will post saying if he will be able to watch the match;
-While in the server,when both players and the admin are there,the admin may countdown and begin the duel (i would like to know if the admins are able to record the match so everyone can see it);
-The winner will be the one with most kills (each map ends when one players gets 10 kills,so,the one with 20 at the end,wins) at the end of the 2 rounds,if there is a tie,a 3rd round may be the best option;
-At the end of both matches,the admin may post at SWBFGamers Starfighter Tournament Week 'X' the video link,and/or screenshot of the final score (both matches).

2)Killing while the oponnent is taking off,or in the ground;

5)Landing the plane at a heal-planes bot,the pilot itself will heal the plane for you if needed;
6)Cussing;
7)Spawn camping or shooting enemy before they have taken off. The victorious pilot should return to his side of the map to insure spawn camping does not happen.
Allowed things:
1)Mods will be players choice,i would like to ask anyone that uses the radar mod to don't use it,because while piloting,this can be a great advantage,but since i can't control who will use or not,i ask everyone who is gonna participate to have in mind your oppenent may be using them;
2)IMPORTANT,suicides,both players crashing and crashing into buildings,will count as a kill to your oponnent,so,watch out;
3)It's allowed and obrigatory that the players use their own names and clan tags,the admin may use their name after the word STadmin. Ex: STadmin.Disciple

Each week we will have one player in each duel who will advance.
On the 3rd round (semi-finals),the best player from those who lost from the 1st round,will get a second chance to win,since we will have only 3 players,so,even losing,do your best.Players and admins can start getting times for duels and post in the thread ill open next week.Good luck all.

I'm very interested. Regrettably, this is one aspect of the game I have never explored in great detail. It's an aspect of the game that has really been wasted in my opinion. I would love to see if I'm any good at piloting so I say let's do it :tu:

It should be: Round of 16 (16 players) then;
Quarter-finals (8 players);
Semi-Finals (4 players);
Final (2 players)
I think a starfighter tournament is good idea.
If you are going to set this up on platforms I would suggest whoever is hosting the server should use a hex edited bes1.lvl to swap the ownership for the 2 center CPS (not the middle one). give rebels center cp to empire and empires center cp to rebels. this will make cloud cars spawn right at the start of map.
Actually i was thinking to use the 3 stock maps where we have starfighters (since its a 1on1). Bespin Platforms,Tatooine Dune sea,Kashyyyk forgot the name.
I say make a mission map with all the things you need/want (including the ever controversial radar option) and have people download it to play in the tourny.

That's probably the best solution,it would be impossible to control who is using radar,so i would say,let everyone have it. (not give to everyone,just a moded mission map)

Interesting. There are also many mod maps which were made for dogfighting in mind, so don't dismiss those.
I'd love to try something like this out! Go for it!
I suggest using Ranen: Platforms for something like this. It's very similar to Bespin: Platforms but it's way cooler IMO.

The 3.0 has the grapple gun and a dusguise kit, not sure if those are MP-compatible.
I've played Ranen with my brother countless hours through LAN. It only crashes if you or an AI use the grapple hook too much. And I wouldn't say that is the best dogfighting map. Personally I like dogfighting maps with obstacles. So like in SWBFII Space Tatooine. Or maybe for SWBFI Dune Sea, by hanging out in the tall rock formations…

If we do a no download, then radar is going to be the next angry discussion once the tourny starts. I'm not participating in this but I think it is wise to use a mod map that either allows or prevents radar, so as not to have this or any other thread spammed with radar "discussions."

That would also lead to problems, though. There are some that would not use radar because they simply don't want to, even if it did even the match.
You can't really win in this issue. You just have to agree to disagree.

You know, they can still use radar if the sides are regular that come with the map, so you might want to make sure there is a whole new side guy, that way, make sure of no radar usage.
Besides that, Radar won't matter if the ships are going the right speed, I mean, you zoom across the map pretty fast.

I would suggest a rule on how close the players can be to each other at the start. For example after someones is killed the winner shouldn't be allowed to circle in the air so they can start behind the other person as soon as they take off. Maybe both people should land and take off together after each kill? Just my thoughts. :)

That may work,it will be admin duty to watch it,and give a warning about doing it before someone just took off.

because the fighters always have to be moving (why would you want a gunship for this?) its not as simple as waiting behind the enemy fighter. The enemy could wait untill the person flying doesnt have the advantage, and then take off
Sounds fun. Depending on when it is, I'm in. I love flying games. It is one of the genres that I excel in. I've never lost in a dogfight, but it has been a long time so I doubt I'm as good as I use to be but I'm just joining for fun :D.
I think that once a player kills an opponent, each player should be on the ground until admins says go. That way each player takes off at the same time. There could be a set place each player is supposed to start.
Example: Each player on Bespin Platforms Lands on the roof of the main cps. Once the admin says go each player may take off. Once a player gets a kill he returns to that spot. When the other player respawns he enters his plane and flies back to that spot. Then admin will say go. Lather, rinse and repeat.

I think I can show up for this. I now have time to get the manual server browser setup on mine before this anyway, since I was unaware of the Master Server dropping out when I was supposed to admin a while back.

I would like to know if there would be some way for the pilot of the Clone and Rebel star fighters to get ammo for their rockets after a fight has ended. The Clone star fighter and Rebel x-wing have rockets to keep it level with the more powerful blasters of the CIS and Empire star fighters. I just think it would be unfair if they were out of rockets for the next fight.
Just one more idea after what sirpimped said (which I agree with); maybe players should swap teams halfway.

Just curious, what about deaths caused by teleporting? Sometimes people may spaz out in-game and you know, fly into a wall. I don't think those kind of suicides should be counted against them.

but how would anyone really know they are telling the truth? It could be easilly faked.

This is called "best pilot in the galaxy" isn't it? If you're flying into walls you're obviously not doing to well as a pilot. Deaths by your own account should count against you.

hes is talking about lag. What if someone flys into a wall and claims it was lag? that is what im bringing up. Lag is beyond the players controll, and real life doesnt lag (or so im told)

But lag is a part of the game. Everyone gets lag. Some more than others. Either way, crashing your plan, lag or no lag, should still count against you.

Agreed, Its not like in regular tournaments you can say a kill doesn't count because you lagged into a mine. The same should apply here.

People can do that? I always same to lag right over mines if I get lag. They never explode though. :P

I agree with pimped and norris,anyone with low health can crash on purpouse and say it was lag,this rule wont be changed,thats why admins should get freecam and if they can record the match,so none can complain.Sorry it took a while for me to post,i was in a travel and in Uruguay and i didnt want to pay to use the internet on my phone...

Are there any mod maps available for these maps without turrets? You know, just for the sake of not having to take the time to blow them up while practicing.
Not that i remember,there are not many starfighters mod maps
Ill be the match admin and host nobility, idc if u will also want to come, buut ill be on each match (though not recording)

I bet it wouldn't be too difficult for a modder to take some if the more open maps and add starfighters.
If you get a modder to do that...
Also it will be needed to make that the modmap is shown on the list of the server maps (the list of maps in the server manager)

I am still around and i have not lost any of my flying prowess...ill tell you here as i told wolf and pimped why i will not join....minimap in a plane duel is so god awful if your flying against it every time you try to get behind someone they can easily go the other way and the battle would either go on for a very long time or it would be a landslide...that is not skill in a plane its like mining your plane or take off killing and the thought of playing against people who would use that is the main reason i dont want to join...the only person who i would say is almost as good as me would have to be forcekeeper...even though we played in his server he was still godlike in a 7-b and he is the best stunt pilot in a 7-b by a longshot...he didnt have to cheat so i dont see why anyone else would have to either

I think I may have to drop out of this tournament. For the past two weeks or so I have just been getting an unreasonable amount of lag for no reason to the point where I can't even play online. If I'm lucky my mystery lag will clear up before the tournament but otherwise I'm dropping out.

Ok so im back and ready to start the tournament next week,sunday 24.
We have 11 players so ill do the follow:
In 1st week we will have this matches:
A1 B1 C1 D1 E1 F1
Phobos vs Josh Nixo vs Epifire Helios vs Hero Ecko vs Norris Sirpimped vs Ruger Roxas vs Wolf
Each week we will have one player in each duel who will advance.
On the 3rd round (semi-finals),the best player from those who lost from the 1st round,will get a second chance to win,since we will have only 3 players,so,even losing,do your best.Players and admins can start getting times for duels.@Led ill ask you to have a server up since this week if you can so players can train.Ill post another thread with the full rules and please lock that topic.Thanks and good luck!

The first week will begin sunday 24. And yes you need to get maps,time,date and sides with your opponent,and then post the info in the thread ill open next week,so admins may say if they are able to admin the match.
Since i had some people asking for Dune sea and island back,ill put them again.The rules thread is locked but have in mind you can choose 2 of the maps.

I asked Led to put a server for training.let me talk with Led next week because i need ask him to change reinforcements and enable bleed when capturing a cp so we can skip maps and eras depending on players choice.I changed the maps because i thought most duels would be in Platforms and there are not many starfighters in the other,maybe youll have to wait to get a new one,and it would be too much to ask for led change the map every duel,but i think making maps in sequence like:
Platforms - CW
Islands - GCW
Dune sea - CW
Platforms - GCW
Islands - CW
Dune sea - GCW
Wold be the best option. (10 tickets each map)
Also,Birdosrus have decided he will help training anyone that want some tips too.He will mostly be in the starfighter server (ask for pw).

Yea maybe,but the pilot itself will heal the plane way faster than the droid,so it will be kinda useless anyway.

Actually, last time I checked, Pilot repairs vehicle extremely slow compared to the droid (unless you have a modified common.lvl)

Yeah this is basically the case. The difference is most noticable with a geonosian starfihter. I do not know of any ships where the pilot heals faster than r2, you can check the ODFs for exact numbers.
Usually it goes like this:
R2 droid - fastest repair
fusion cutter - fast repair
pilot in vehicle - slowest repair
I can tell u that flying with the pilot rly fast heals the plane quite fast.

Disciple reminded me that we are on for this week and I powered up SWBF and practiced my controls. Been a long time though cause I don't think I have played in about over a year now if now more. At least since the Master Server got shut down.
