Free download for Battlefield 1942 for the 10 year aniversary.

Are you paying attention, LucasArts?  ;)

If they made a Star Wars version of this it would be the perfect game. Oh, wait.... :)

You need to download the "origin" program (sort of like gamespy/steam/xfire) and then get the game.  Not sure if they make a Mac version of Origin.

Would we really want Star Wars Battlefront released as freeware. Keep in mind a lot of low lifers are attracted by this sort of thing because they can't afford anything else.

Heh, well, I'm downloading Battlefield 1942 for free right now... :)

It's something I been wanting for a while, but was too old for me to justify purchasing it.

So, you never know.  I think its always better to have a few more people in the server to shoot at :P

It is very much like SWBF, but with WWII era weapons and such.
(I die a lot in this as well, heh.)

I'm only 1 level into the campaign, but:
Command Post capturing and spawning is pretty much the same.
I haven't found any squad commands.
Unit selection is simular.
The controlable actions are simular (seperate squat and prone keys though.)
The graphics even have a simular, low poly feel.
This game is right where I like to be, engine-wise.

Did any of the Pandemic folks work on this game before SWBF?

SWBF is a shameless clone of Battlefield 1942. They weren't afraid to hide that fact.

10 years ago Battlefield 1942 was a HUGE PC shooter and the "command post" concept made the game a huge seller.

LucasArts made a clone and used the Star Wars universe. In the same year Battlefield 2 was released. Both games had really strong sales.

The battlefield series is awesome. I have Battlefield 3 it's one of the best games I've played.

I think Halo Reach is a clone of SWBF. So many things are similar its not even funny.

They didn't release Origin for Mac AG- however they are working on a beta atm for a mac version....it was announced with Sim 3 for Mac coming in Feb 2013.
But it might release before that perhaps. Sadly even if it was i'd expect not to get the mac version of this free....i've got it from way back when and while its a great game online....its been dead for so long i don't know if it will have any type of revival.

I never said it was for Mac :/

However I wouldn't mind if it did. There's some good EA games out there.
