Requests / Re: Clone Dismemberment Mod?
May 03, 2019, 01:16:23 PM
Very close, Unit33!

It was in fact from my Encounter at Geonosis map...  Jango Fett would randomly get beheaded if you slashed him while playing as a Jedi, and also Count Dooku got dismembered in my Battle of Coruscant map.   I never had the clones get chopped up though.

Likely a dumb question but what if you lower the spawn points?  Would the droid starfighters still spawn at the exact same high location, or do they spawn at a consistent height above wherever you might put those spawn points?
#33
No idea... it was given to me by another modder 12 years ago since it obviously helps test out map/mod ideas more easily. I mentioned it because someone else in the community may still have the files and may be willing to post it on a filehost or something.  It could also be on Gametoast, I don't think that file was ever hosted here on swbfgamers.

Yes, there is a cheat. It gives you both that as well as one-shot kills (for both units and vehicles), no weapon overheating, and infinite jetpack power.  I believe it was called EIP?  I used to have it before my hard drive crashed. The only requirement was that you had to have your SWBF1 installed on your C:\ drive  and not another drive, for it to work.

What is "Chain Isle"? And were Thrawn (and in another line, Boba) actually made for BF1, or did he release them as some early BF2 content or personal projects?

It's funny but I was just playing Chain Isle recently... yes it does have Thrawn in the map (albeit, not an entirely accurate version of him). It's a fun map, and a great project to analyze if you want to learn how to add custom music to your own maps which is what I was doing with it.

Regarding psychofred, a great and helpful guy and we in the modding community owe him a lot. I do recall many, many years ago there was some spat over at GameToast that caused him to delete all of his posts from their forums (Teancum can probably elaborate on it if he chooses to do so). Very unfortunate since it removed some likely useful posts where he answered questions from modders who were stuck on their mods and needed his advice.

Always great to play a new SWBF1 map (especially one that will run on older systems).

@Teancum: one of the CPs is floating in the air... presumably it was meant to be touching the ground, but instead it's hovering about 3/4 the height of a trooper away from the ground.

That's what I had thought "EntitySoldier" would've included, is expanding the memory for their animations... but perhaps not. I should try some much higher number like 500 just to see if it improves things any more.

@Led:  that's an excellent point, I also remember (back when I was modding those Jedi units) that making the soldiers run too fast would cause them to slide in the game. However in this case, I know I'm using only the typical speed and acceleration settings for my custom units, and the sliding still happens even for the standard/shipped X-Wing pilot whenever I'm playing as him.

@Giftheck:  I'm still just using the same modding setup from 10+ years ago, so definitely not using Sleepkiller's Model Edit tool.  I don't have the LUA in front of me, but I'm fairly certain that I'm only calling up the usual 25 units per team.  There are also 2 local teams that probably average out to about 25 each (so that's a total of 100 units on the map).  I've had more than this in my previous mods e.g. Geonosis Arena, without any sliding issues.  It could be that this time I've got a ton of starfighters added to the map as well.  This feels like something I should be able to solve if I allocate more memory resources in the right place, but am at a loss as to what they would be other than the EntitySoldier that I already tried.

SWBF1 Modding / Units are sliding instead of walking
January 04, 2019, 01:16:43 PM

I've recently had some free time to resume modding SWBF1 and encountered a familiar problem:  in some cases the units (and myself) will start to slide around on the floor instead of doing the usual animated walk/run.

This is a problem that I vaguely recall being reported in the past with other mods, but I've not had this issue until trying to create this particular mod. Does anyone remember what is needed to fix the issue?  In my LUA, I thought that increasing the soldier memory might help but it doesn't seem to change much:

    SetMemoryPoolSize ("EntitySoldier",300)

Would appreciate any suggestions!  thanks  :tu:

Released Maps and Mods / Re: Endor Demo Maps recompiled
September 21, 2018, 10:35:12 AM
Apologies, but I'm not familiar with what the Endor demo maps are supposed to be.  Are these demo map improvements over the normal shipped maps?  Or just a different layout from the shipped maps?   ???

Hey guys, I was wondering if there's a way to play as one of the Tusken on Tatooine. Like, joining the team 'Tusken' and interact with command posts and so on.

It's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure that in my Execution at Geonosis mod, you can play as a Tusken Raider. It's in the mission map where the gamer is supposed to play as Anakin on Tatooine, getting revenge on the Tusken Raiders for the death of his mom.  You're supposed to be Anakin, but if you spawn on the other team, you can then play as a Tusken (although not sure if the game is too easy if you do that, you're only fighting Anakin which would be an AI bot).

I do quietly visit every once in a blue moon just to see if anyone has figured out how to add that working 6th player to SWBF1 yet :-)   But seriously I was thinking about doing a GCW version to my earlier Space: Battle over Coruscant map lately and just wanted to see if anyone has done it for me yet (because hey, if someone has already done the work, no need for me to do it lol).

Yoda the Froggy's map is not bad, but useless to someone like me who enjoys a quick SP instant action game now and then.  I really may have to do my own Space: Battle of Endor map one of these days using the same "boarding party" approach from Coruscant to keep the action going...

I noticed in the listing for the Endor space map it says, "author unknown".

There's a text file inside the archive with the map that indicates the author is "Yoda The Froggy", don't know if he's a user here but at least it partly identifies who made the map.

Really well done... makes me wish I had the time to do some modding nowadays (but sadly I do not)   :slap:

General / Interview with Jens Andersen

Came across this interview this afternoon and was surprised that this is the guy who first proposed Star Wars: Battlefront, so I guess he deserves credit for why we're all here today:
