Title: UEF Server
Post by: Anyder on January 19, 2014, 01:53:14 PM
Alright so, i dont know who the server crasher is, but i do not care.
Im hosting that server so that people have a public euro server.
U dont want it ? just say it and i will stop hosting it.
U want me to keep hosting it ? then stop crashing it
Wanna donate for me to host it with my NFO Server ? please, feel free to click here (https://www.nfoservers.com/donate.pl?force_recipient=1&recipient=anyder@uef-clan.com)
But next time, i see it crashed, i wont bother running it once again.

I know it's for DOS attacks but it is worth a read. http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=4931#p24258 (http://www.nfoservers.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=4931#p24258)

Yeah I know. The post I linked you to contains advice for dealing with people who crash servers. (it's the second one in the topic.) Just thought it could be worth a read.

Well normally server crashers have high pings, so just kick the people with high pings

Well, not everyone with high ping is a crasher.
But Anyder? Thx that you still host an Euro server. On all other  I can't play.. (with fun)
I'm still working on a AntiCrash.. but most time it  works not (good)..

Nope.  Server crashing (as far as SWBF goes) does not rely on ping.  I can't tell you how many times (a longgg time ago) I got booted because "High ping" or "lagger".  Slow Internet was never an excuse...

Well on BF2 Admin bots ban people for high ping and once there gone theres alot less lag for me.

Ye, but thats swbf2 server setting: auto kick on high ping: (ping number)

Ehm, also;
Lag between you and the server because of someone else won't crash the server, it will only lag you out.
So laggers aren't the cause of a server crash.

While busy servers are an issue for many players, it is still off topic, as the topic is about a specific server that was been crashed by a conscious entity, not a bad connection.

I can verify that there are people out there that have purposely crashed game servers--nothing to do with lag or ping, etc. of players.

What we don't know is:

1) will the crasher read this website?  (I hope no SWBFgamers.com members would crash servers)
and
2) if they will listen to the request to stop even if they see this post.

There are a few ways to crash servers, the details of which we will not go into on this thread.

Well how can we stop crashers (Hopefully with ways that will make people laugh when they hear about guys that were punished)

Ban them and put them on a public blacklist with all supposed aliases and IPs.
Sadly we don't have internet prison.. Or a working carbon freezing chamber.

Maybe we can put in a logmein type thing which allows us to get on their computer and uninstall Battlefront and put on something to keep them from reinstalling it

o.0
That just doesn't seem like a good approach.
Technical feasibility aside, you are suggesting hacking people's machines which might be viewed as criminal activity in most civilized parts of the world.

Which is why I live in the US, thanks to a certain President in office right now we are one of the least civilized countries in the world.

Come back toward reality Call-of-Duty.

----------------------

To remark on others' posts, I have run a SWBF server since 2009.

Before Gamespy shut down, we could get real IP addresses and issues IP bans.  But people that are enough trouble could get new IP addresses and get around the bans.

Now with tunngle, people just get new tunngle ID's to get around any bans.

The only thing we can do is to try to foster a culture of respect for other people's property.

I don't think that's what he said... Plus, i highly doubt there is anyone near the age of seven that plays swbf. I think the youngest is 11 but i could be wrong. It is very hard to stop a server crasher like Led said. If this does keep happening though, It's sad to say that you would just have to put a pass on the server and tell the people the pass that you trust.

You may not be able to teach anyone anything, but you can lead by example by showing respect yourself. Others can learn from that example.

Looking down on someone because of their age (or perceived age through the distorted lens of internet behaviour) is not a great way to do that.
