Whenever i want to quit an application I always go down to my dock hold on the application and choose quit. But now when i highlight the application it wont let me select quit and everything runs slowly until i click the apple button at the top of the screen (the one you go into to choose shutdown). How can I fix this?

do you try just quitting the application normally through cmd+Q.  I dont really know any troubleshooting techniques for tiger. the oldest ive ever run is leopard

This may sound stupid but have you tried restarting your computer?

Does it do the same thing if you use apple-Q or menu->quit?

No it works fine if i do the short cut keys or the menu>quit way. Just not by holding the application down on the dock and quitting it that way.
