It is not required, but if you play SWBF version 1.2, you probably will want to update the empire sides, since the mod tools shipped with the 1.0 empire sides, and they are different on a few things.

The shotgun spread is different and the jet fuel usage rate and recharge rate is different in 1.2.

i think there are instructions.  btw, i moved the topic here to discuss the 1.2 sides

if nothing else, get the 1.2 sides and see what files are different.  There are only a few, and you can tell by the date changes.
