Other Games / Activision Steam sale
May 03, 2015, 12:42:52 PM
Steam is having a nice sale for Activision games, mainly CoD. I have only played CoD2, like 8 years ago. Does anyone play the CoD games and recommend one? I am thinking Black Ops 2 for only 20$.

Any answer is greatly appreciated.

You can go to the Battlefield website and sign up on the front page. It is a lot of fun for me so far. OR if you just want to watch some game play, I always enjoy watching this YouTube channel for new games.

Btw, it might take a couple days for them to email you.

Other Games / Global v. Ru?
April 16, 2014, 05:03:50 PM
Hey everyone

I was browsing games and came across two versions of Arma3. One of them was "Global" listed at 40$ and the second was "Ru" listed at 10$.

I have not seen this before and I do not understand why there is such a large difference in price. Any thoughts appreciated.  ;)

Hey,

Ray Ban is having a sale on all of their sunglasses right now. Some of them that are usually 350$ are now 25$. (without shipping). I have no idea how long the sale lasts.

General / Pumpkin Carving
October 08, 2013, 06:39:55 AM
So I have an informative speech approaching in my public speaking class and I'm going to do an instructional presentation on how to carve a pumpkin. I've been advised that everyone knows how to do that already..so my question for you,

Is there any step of carving a pumpkin you are unsure of?
Is there anything new about carving a pumpkin that hasn't been widely said before?

Any ideas are appreciated, I'm in a pickle here...

General / Help with App?
November 10, 2012, 04:25:25 PM
Hey everyone.

I have a project to make a blueprint for an Iphone App, using 4 pieces of writing. I can do anything I choose, as long as it has an overall purpose. The 4 pieces of writing are:

1. The Handmaids Tale
2. The Yellow Wallpaper
3. Story of an hour
4. Poem- Metaphors

I was thinking to have an App where you would click on a main theme such as male dominance or feminism, and depending which one you pick, it would open a new screen and show the books that have that specific theme in it. Then from there, you could pick a book, and it would open a new window to where it displayed important quotes and symbols with explanations, to help provide concrete support for writing an essay.

I don't want to copy sparknotes of cliffnotes in any way, but I'm just having creators block I guess. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas to go off of? It would be very helpful.

General / Remembering 9/11/01
September 11, 2012, 12:48:42 PM

We did an activity in class today where we tweet (ya know twitter), and it was about remembering 9/11/01. It is one of those days in history where almost everyone can remember where they were and what they were doing.

I remember I was in elementary school, probably second or third grade. I was in class listening to my teacher read and all of a sudden, the principal came in and told us about what had just happened, and to turn on the news. We sat and watched almost all day. My teacher was crying her eyes out. The last hour of the day, the entire school went outside on the PE courts and sang the national anthem.

Right before I left for class today, I made sure to put out the American flag to honor those who were killed in the attacks and the brave men and women who gave their lives trying to help everyone through the chaos.

Where were you when it happened?

Other Games / Dayz
August 16, 2012, 11:12:00 AM
Hey, I have recently started playing a game called Dayz. Dayz is a separate mod from the game called Arma2. Dayz is basically a zombie survival game. It takes place in Russia after an apocalypse. You start on the beach in one of about 15 locations with a small backpack, standard flashlight, a box of painkillers, and a bandage.

I have played many many zombie survival games and this has the highest intensity easily in my view. The map is very hard, you have to take many factors into consideration about your travels. The temperature, food, water, noise, sound, and blood levels. You need to know where to travel and the best/safest way to get there. The map itself is about 80 km. It will take me roughly 3-4 hours to run from east to west.

You need to watch out for of course, zombies which spawn constantly in towns, so there is no escaping in cities. You kill them they respawn. And then you have bandits, which are other players who kill you for your gear. Once you die, you restart somewhere near the shore, and restart everything.

The graphics are amazing as well. I'm playing on normal levels because my computer cant handle the higher intensity. I can see separate blades of grass in normal, it must be pretty sweet on high.

Here is the current map of the game. http://dayzdb.com/map#2.075.082  That is basically the cheat sheet. Maps are hard to come across in the actual game, and on them you don't have the symbols for different kinds of loot like this one has.

Currently, I am carrying. A Lee Enfield Rifle, with 3 magazines. A water bottle I just filled in the pond, 3 cans of coke, 4 cans of Pepsi, 2 cans of sardines, 2 cans of beans, and 2 cans of frank and beans. I have 5 blood bags, 3 morphine (used for broken bones), painkillers, a heat pack, hunting knife, matches, pile of wood, hatchet, and a camping tent that I have not a use for yet.

Right now, I just left the city and am in the country side going north east. I am mainly hitting barns and warehouses that are less likely to have players. This game is pretty cool about time too. its a full scale clock the game runs on. So 24 hours, you endure night and day.

Its a lot better if you know others who play it. A bunch of my friends mainly from Wusi play now, and we use skype. Its extremley hard to type because you really want to keep moving as much as possible. This game reminds me sort of the movie, The book of Eli.

Does anyone else play this game? I highly recommend it. It is on the expensive side for a game (to me at least), going for about 30$ depending where you buy it.

www.dayzmod.com Right now the average life expectancy is 49 minutes lol.

General / Song Meaning(s)?
March 25, 2012, 06:40:04 AM

I was listening to the song, The Chain, by Fleetwood Mac, and I've read its about how ya know its mostly got to do with love and all, but I wouldn't go as far to call it a love song.

Could one meaning just be that, if you break the chain, your cutting yourself off from everyone else?

Sharing appreciated. Thanks 8)

General / Brave New World
March 23, 2012, 03:17:33 PM

I've recently had to read the book, a Brave New World, for my class, and overall I was so confused.

One, I don't understand where they are. (The civilization). At one point early on it says, "back on earth"; however, then it goes on to say later in the books final chapters about London and Western Europe.

Then there is the Savage. The Savage, I am guessing is a person that lived before the changes into "civilization", and doesn't live among the genetically breed.

Instead of god, they have "The Ford". ( we say, oh my god!, it being, oh my ford! for them).

Everyone in the new world is named, Alpha, Gamma, Epsilon, etc. There is no personality, its all about being the exact same, and learning everything at an early age to make that sense of security stronger and solid.

The main thing I got from this book, is that its all about Safety over Freedom. (much like from my opinion, the United States is).

I have to make an 8 minute presentation on Wednesday about this book. I cant summarize the book in any way, but I need to make personal connections to this book. (more the better for my grade).

If anyone has read this book, and would like to share their personal views on it, I would be more than happy to read it, and maybe it would get my brain going for my own.

Thank you.

General / Harmful Effects of TV
March 22, 2012, 06:04:36 PM
Hey all who read this.

I am writing an synthesis essay for class and I'm trying to write why TV is harmful to American society.

My main points:

1. People who watch graphic TV are usually influenced with negative or resembling behavior.
(ex. recent Michigan University health study shows teens who watch sexual activity on TV are 10 times more likely to engage is such activities.)

2. People who are more susceptible  to create a fantasy world and hide while watching TV (Idk about this one, my partner thought it could work, but i cant think of any support).

3. The majority of TV viewers waste a noticeable portion of their lives.
(ex. average TV viewer wastes 9 years of their life watching TV)

I'm supposed to show both sides of the argument in a way like, with number 3, I could say that, there are 2 categories of TV viewers, passive, those who sit and watch pictures go by without thinking about it. Then interpretive viewers, those who form an opinion on what they see. Im not sure if that would count as "showing both sides".

I was trying to find literature that had to do with harmful effects of TV, hopefully not just a broad study, but maybe a biography or a personal experience. I'm not sure, but if you would like to share and give me some ideas I'd really appreciate them. The grade scale is a 0-9. My highest being a 7, and what I'm missing are specific examples to support my points and engaging my audience.

If anyone knows anything about writing synthesis essays, I'd like to hear any tips you would have to offer.

Thank you.
