PrizesThe top 3 players will be awarded prizes at the end of the tournament. These prizes consist of specialized mods or mod assets which I will design and then award to the top 3.
1st place will get to have the first pick for choosing between one of three options as a prize:
- Custom crosshair texture for 1 weapon reticule of your choice, designed for improving accuracy greatly over stock.
- Custom stock planet reskin, you choose the planet (no mod maps except jabba), skin theme, and weather effects.
- Black minimalist, outer space SHELL and LOAD (main menu and map transition) mods. You may also send me specific nebula or space pictures which I'll add to various planetary load sequences (I will do this for up to 3 planets of your choice).
2nd place will get to choose a selection between the two remaining choices, and 3rd place will receive the last remaining option as a prize.
I know these prizes might not appeal to every player in this tournament, but it's better than no prizes. And remember without modding communities like this SWBF1 would most likely be completely dead.
The top 10 leaderboard bracket will be constructed and replace the list of current participants after the tournament has started and the top 10 positions are taken. It will also list all unranked participants below the top 10 who may join the tournament at any time by signing up on this thread. Anyone who quits the tournament gives up their rank automatically but may always rejoin later unless they have been disqualified for some reason.
Also below this will be an awards section which will list record times for how long each participant has managed to retain their position within the top 3. So if a player manages to hold 3rd place for 4 weeks it will be noted here, and updated if/when they manage to surpass their record.

I have decided to start a new tournament open to all members of SWBFGamers who wish to sign up. The idea is quite simple: a fun tournament consisting of sniper duels in the hallway only on cloud city.
This will not require the clients to download any mods, since I will be hosting a dedicated server with cloud city mods that simply prevents anyone from leaving the hallway and always forces them to spawn inside (note: this is NOT the cc hallway death outside mod, that is quite terrible in comparison). I am also currently working on patching the "corner bug" where shots can go through walls (more prevelent at the Rear Flank than Walkway) to make the sides evenly balanced. I will be hosting the servers with /noaim so that autoaim cannot be abused.
The rules of the tournament are as follows:
- All client sided mods are allowed. Includes crosshairs, radars, custom textures, etc.
- There will be infinite ammo, however grenades will have the "push" modded out so that stun-spawn kills are impossible.
- Recons will be modded out
- Both sides get precisely 10 lives and must fight until one player reaches 0 or forfeits.
- CP disabled
- Spawn timer 5 seconds, Spawn invincibility 3 seconds
- Both teams can use either sniper unit, the special class for their team will spawn as the other team's sniper class.
- The challenger always gets to choose the starting CP side either walkway or rear flank.
- Screenshots must always be taken at the end (unless both players were unable or forgot to take screenshots and agree on the same results) to prove a match actually happened and a link posted on this thread. Any disputes over a match not having occurred where screenshots are produced will possibly result in further inspections or pre-match player identity verifications.
- Anyone provably caught impersonating another participant or having someone else impersonate them will be instantly banned and disqualified from the tournament.
The tournament will function as a leaderboards which means it is ongoing until December 31st when it will officially end.
either the server cannot be hosted anymore or the participants lose interest and player challenges become too infrequent. The leaderboards would be updated once a week with the new results factored in.
The top 10 players will be listed in a leaderboard bracket which shows their names and respective positions. At the start of tournament all the participants will start unranked. To earn a rank you must first defeat another unranked participant (or ranked if all 10 spots are taken). The first person to do this and post a screenshot here will take position number 1. The second person will receive position #2, and so on until all 10 ranks are filled. At this point other participants who are not ranked may challenge the players in 9th or 10th place in order to work their way up. A person may join as late as they want, someone may join 3 weeks after it has started, although the tournament will end on December 31st.
Each participating player will be allowed to propose up to
5 challenges per week (which will start on mondays), however a participant who is ranked in the top 10 only has to accept as many as
3 challenges per week. So if 5 unranked players ask to duel player #10, then #10 only has to accept the first 3 offers, and the rest are optional.
Challenges should be posted formally on this thread in a way that is easy to understand.
Specific times should not be posted since it would add clutter to the thread, as the two players can figure this out using xfire or PMs. In the challenge-issue and challenge-accept posts you may mention times but be sure to mention time zone also so players don't get confused. If the person being challenged does not respond to the challenger or duel them within
4 days of the challenge post, it is considered automatic forfeiture.
The top 10 players may challenge someone ranked up to two ranks higher than them to a duel, the other player must accept a duel within 4 days or it will result in a forfeit in which the challenger automatically wins the match and moves up to their position. Example: Bob who is ranked #4 is challenged by Joe who is ranked #6. Bob never responds to the post so 5 days later Joe automatically goes up to rank #4 and Bob down to #5. Whoever was #5 before is now #6.
Also another rule regarding challenges: You cannot challenge the same person more than twice per week. So if Joe #6 lost to Bob #4 twice, he could still challenge #5, but not Bob #4 again until next week (starting monday).
There will be no in-game admining for this tournament since it really isn't required. If the participants wish for others to see the duel they can video or broadcast the duel, or have their friends watch scores from the lobby. 1-2 instances of the server will be up 24/7, and will only allow for 2 player slots. The server will have a password that only the participants of this tournament will know (I will PM it to players who sign up when the tourney begins, and also to players who sign up afterwards). However I may attend a duel to watch if both players ask me to and I'm available.
The tournament will officially start on
November 1st so that there is more time for the rules to be openly discussed and refined further, and giving a decent time buffer to allow more players to sign up. If anybody has suggestions, comments, questions, ideas or concerns you may post them here and they will be taken into consideration.

I also tried pressing 'p' while playing SWBF and I know the file location of the supposed screenshots i took, but they're not in there. Thirdly I tried hitting 'PrintScreen' twice really fast but no results were evident. :confused: Is there possibly another alternative that would work?
You can re-map keys for X-fire from Tools-Options-X-fire in game to avoid using the scrlk key if this helps.
I'm a rubbish sniper but I'll try and join nearer the time when I know what I'm doing.

If xfire won't work at all try holding in on the control key then pressing printscreen. after you do this open up a program such as windows publisher, paint etc... then right click and press paste. the image should then appear in the file.

I have already attempted that in-game, and it only takes a picture of my desktop and any web browsers/programs i currently have opened up...

My xfire quit working in game recently, I had to reinstall xfire. Then go into options, xfire-ingame tab, check the box that says enable xfire in game. Then go to games tab and look for SWBF. Make sure the box that says disable xfire in game is not checked, and make sure the file path is calling on the exe. Then change your keys to open xfire from scroll-lock + x to something else.
Also in the game options you can set the screenshot key to something other than P or print screen. It will save the file as a TGA in the screenshots folder in gamedata. However this will only work while the game is going in the player lobby, it won't work for end scores screenshots.

Since only 8 people have signed up and not 10 (the minimum) I will delay the start of this tournament until October 15th. If 10 people still haven't signed up by then, November 1st.

I have updated the main post but will also announce here that the official start of the tournament is November 1st. We will be starting then even if there isn't 10 participants. This tournament beings on Nov 1st and ends on Dec 31st. In early January the final scores will then be evaluated and an awards list generated for the top participants and other honorable mentions (more info on this later).
Also if enough people join I will sit out. Since I am admin for this tournament I would prefer not to participate unless we have less than ~12 total registered players.
Also note there have been some important revisions to the rules.
- Maximum challenges a person can make per week increased from 2 to 5.
- Minimum amount of challenges that must be accepted per week increased from 2 to 3.
- Maximum days allowed to accept a challenge before auto-forfeit decreased from 7 to 4.
- A participant may challenge the same person up to twice per week instead of once per week.
I am open to hearing suggestions for balancing the rules more so post any ideas if you have them!
No, I do not have xfire.
Right now I plan on having grenades allowed (recons no no) but with the push modded out. It could however still be an issue if people spam them in the spawn CPs. So my question to all current participants in this tourney is whether or not you would prefer grenades disabled?
I agree with taking out recons because they are petty. However with grenades I think this would be taking out a large part of the game and strategy as far as hallway duels go.

Yes i agree that Grenades should be allowed and Recon Droids shouldn't be allowed because, Recons from my experience make my game lag pretty bad.
Grenades will stay then but with the push removed so that stun spawn kills aren't possible. If your enemy spams nades try maximizing the distance between them.

Is it possible to make the um reload slower for nades so there will be no spam?

there probably wont be however i may be able to create something where you would automatically lose if you camped in the enemy cp for too long. i have an idea i am testing atm but if it doesnt work a long spawn protection timer such as 5 seconds should be enough to prevent being spawn killed.
This might be a better idea, With the feature that you can only be in the hallway why don't you cut the hallway in half with the block so one person can only get halfway across hall but can shoot\ nade through it.

Because then some players could resort to camping and trying to time out their opponent, dragging out the rounds far too long.

Well I figure if someone really wants they can join at the last week and earn maybe 8th or 9th place. Joining any later than that would be futile. Players can join the tournament anytime except for the last week but will have to start at the bottom if the top 10 are already ranked.

This tournament works differently than others just read the rules 2-3 times slowly enough to understand everything and if you still have questions then ask me on xfire my profile is: fcleaderrage
The plan is to let this tournament run for 2 months and see how it goes. If it goes well then after this tournament finishes I may consider setting up a 2-3 month shotgun only tournament on Mos Eisley (basically only rebel pilots and dark troopers allowed).
Also since Nino is active again I have added him back to the list. Just let me know if you change your mind or have to be inactive again Nino.

It would be where the first 3 units for both teams spawn as RP, and the last 2 would spawn as DT. So either player could use DT or RP if they wanted. Each would have their advantages and disadvantages. Infinite ammo would be enabled and no cps.

From what I understand no one is ranked at the beginning so you can challenge anyone. When the first two people duel each other and post their screenshots here then they will be handed ranks 1 and 2 respectively, and the next people to do so will be ranked 3 and 4. This process continues until 10 people are ranked and then you're only allowed to challenge a person up to 2 places above you. Correct me if I'm wrong Phobos.

That is correct. I am working on the server now and it should be up sometime today.
I tried using challonge to set up a bracket but it isn't going to work for this kind of tournament so I will update the 2nd post with a custom bracket soon.

Ok after much confusion and annoyance I was able to locate the source of the glitch and fix it. The server should be 100% functional now.
It honestly doesn't matter if the droid is functional or isn't since you have unlimited ammo.

u will have to be ranked first before you can challenge another ranked player. the +/- 2 levels goes into affect once u are ranked.

Some german noname hackers have been joining the session and staying in to prevent 2nd player from joining. I caught one and banned him a few days ago..
I will reset the server in a moment and I accept ur challenge Mart but I might not have time today for it.
I know im not in the tournament anymore but id go with number 2, its more work, but it will be easier that way.

hey rage are you still trying to fix the 'wall hack' bug? Because shots still go through the reb cp wall and any skilled sniper will use that to their advantage and may potentially get a cheap hit or kill. This rarely occurs but when it does and costs you the game for example, then it can be quite frustrating. It's a minor issue, but one that should be resolved.
I am looking for the right sized msh to patch it with. If you have any suggestions let me know.

I don't think I got a kill in the match (although there wasn't many :) ) that wasn't from grenade or pistol so I would probably agree it's too easy to force someone into a corner with grenades, but then if there was no grenades it's just a shooting gallery.... Also having radar, for me, ruins the fun of dodging to one side to hide.
These are just some thoughts and not directed at anyone. I knew the rules when I entered so I'm not complaining it's still a good tournament. :)

nades could be disabled. i asked this question before the tournament began: should nades be disabled or just the push removed? and the majority chose to keep nades but without push. if everyone has changed their mind however, they can still be removed/disabled.
I'm ok either way, my view on this is that a sniper tourny should be with JUST sniper rifles and nothing else. To really show ones skill with a sniper.

Thats incorrect anyone can move while a nade is exploding you have 5 seconds of spawn protection more than enough to avoid a nade.

No, kishan threw a nade before i spawned. so when i spawned i fell and then he threw another one and i fell and maybe one more i forget, so i was on the floor and he shot me. its easy to throw a nade before they spawn and 'stun' them and then repeatly stun them till the timer goes out, 5 sec, like happened to me. Get what im saying? :p

Now you are making things up. You were never stunned because I removed grenade push from the server. Your character may have appeared to fall but you could still move since stun is removed.

Although my opinion is worthless in this tournament it is worth stating that flinching still happens to people even when the bullet according to the server never hit them. Let me explain how this works. Say you put an invisible wall in the middle of the hallway server side. You can not walk through it and there is a person on the other side. He flinches although does not take damage. I think the same applies to weapons with push the animation of them being thrown to the ground. Maybe you can still move maybe you can't. If it is the case that the animation does play I am inclined to believe the code for blocking off controls from doing anything is activated. Server side mods 75% of the time are not stable and do have unwanted side affects client side.

The flinching occurs but you can still move, it will appear as if your character is sliding on the ground for half a second or so. The controls for movement are not blocked off during what would be stun time for clients, try it a few times in the server and you will see what I mean. These mods are stable and haven't crashed so far.
The animation for stun is triggered but clients can still move and it will have zero effect on a person under spawn protection timer (unless they fire a weapon which removes it). Here is the ODF I used if you want to try it yourself in a server:

vixo it appears upon further testing, that sometimes the stun is working and sometimes not.
this is a bug and i will look into it. if all else fails nades will be removed.
this didnt start happening in the server until recently so i think maybe the push radius needs to be 0 also.

I could try setting up this tournament server on VLAN until gamespy master server returns, However I dont think tunngle will work for macs, which means that I should probably pause the tournament until regular multiplayer is working again.
TOURNAMENT PAUSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE this includes remaining challenge days and such they are on "hold" starting 11-7 until MP is returned.
I would like everyone currently participating in this tournaemnt to post whether or not they have gotten Tunngle and/or GameRanger to work. If we can get everyone on board with VLAN we can continue the tournament. I would like to resume this tournament as soon as possible. 9 participants currently have tunngle. If at least 1 more person can get it working by monday november 19th the tournament will resume right where it left off on 11-7. I have decided there will be prizes for the top 3 winners. I will stay in the tournament for now and drop out 2 weeks before it ends so that all prizes can be awarded to the top 3 participants.

1st place will get to have the first pick for choosing between one of three options as a prize:
- Custom crosshair texture for 1 weapon reticule of your choice, designed for improving accuracy greatly over stock.
- Custom stock planet reskin, you choose the planet (no mod maps except jabba), skin theme, and weather effects.
- Black minimalist, outer space SHELL and LOAD (main menu and map transition) mods. You may also send me specific nebula or space pictures which I'll add to various planetary load sequences (I will do this for up to 3 planets of your choice).
2nd place will get to choose a selection between the two remaining choices, and 3rd place will receive the last remaining option as a prize.
I know these prizes might not appeal to every player in this tournament, but it's better than no prizes. And remember without modding communities like this SWBF1 would most likely be completely dead.

This tournament has been officially discontinued. No prizes will be given, nobody will receive awards. Not enough players were able to make the transition to tunngle in time to continue fighting so everyone can thank gamespy/lucasarts/disney for effectively destroying the tourney after 1 week of fun. The original post will be preserved as is as a format for potential future tournaments.
