Ah, thanks for this link. I'll make sure I check it every day :D
I certainly know I do !
It's a pretty dedicated site, full of speculation and rumours, but there's some good "facts" in there too.

right now, i'm trying to edit the battlefront executable to open new possibilities (ie. unit and vehicle position limits, carrier class, all the stuff that we want in SWBF but can't get). It's probably not entirely legal so i'm just doing it as an experiment until people can decide on whether its legal or not.
Current Projects:
Battlefront One and a Half Era Mod, v2.0. Making great progress (SWBF)

Once Battlefront III was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, the console versions disappeared... However the PSP port lived on as "Elite Squadron". In which the premise was that battle could take place in space and on land at the same time, thus the player could simply fly in between each "Battlefront". Unfortunately bot rooting is probably too dumb in SWBF to allow a mod like this...

what are you modifying it with? cheat engine?

All True BF3 news is old to me, I keep myself very up to date on that.

And you would be better off editing the BF2 exe, regardless of legality. BF1 is great and all, but has a lot more limitations that BF2 doesn't have. If you could add prone, strafe, the 4 squad commands, and the grappleing hook back into BF2, and make some really good mods, mainly scripting, and updating graphics and a few new amazing maps, and you have BF3.

True. And also it would do no harm if the jedis were somehow disabled. Or at least put into a separate game type (like "Force Deathmatch" or something). BF2 online sucks like hell because of this clear unfairness where Jedis fight with helpless troopers, and it also completely destroys the awesome battle-feeling.
Making them weaker in the force would probably solve the problem as well, as it must be really annoying when you run through the city and suddenly a Jedi leaps from like 100 metres away and kills you instantly.
Destroy the left, the front, the right and the back, and leave the rest to the Jedi!

I'm mainly looking for anything that has to do with the unit class limit. I'm trying to change it from 5 to 9 (which is Bf2's limitation, not including the hero). I'm using a combination of debuggers, disassemblers, and hexeditors. What is cheat engine?

It's possible to modify using Cheat Engine?  ???

No offence to what your doing jdee-barc but modifying the exe is against the EULA that comes with the modtools which makes it illegal to do. I would strongly advise against it.

I concur.
And it is easy to remove heroes without modifying the exe, you can even do it via the settings before you start an online game, a lot of people dont though.

One thing is for sure--those guys would not be involved in Battlefront 3.  I strongly suggest you leave them alone.

Instead, go here and be one of a few hundred other people that have asked the same question of LucasArts:
http://www.lucasforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=716

I would love to get hold of those guys, but for different reasons (more to do with obtaining the PSP BF2 mod tools).

Anyhow, since we have no solid fact, I present to you...

-Choose from preset unit looks or create your own unit look, right down to the armour, eye color and hair color of units.
-Customize your weapons loadout or choose from eight 'classes'.
-New map layout – now you have four different Battlefronts – two land battles, space and capital ship. Each affect the overall outcome of the battle.
-The choice of reinforcements or points in Instant Action mode.
-Choose how you play – whether you play the entire map as a whole or just one section of it (Space, Battlefield 1, Battlefield 2) as in the old games.
-No loading for space-to-captial ship and vice-versa (and possibly no loading for planet-space or battlefield-battlefield)
-Includes many remade maps from Star Wars: Battlefront, Star Wars: Battlefront II and Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron.
-The return of many vehicles including the ARC-170, the A-Wing and the TIE Bomber.

==================
==================
Default Unit Types:
==================
==================

Seven default unit classes will be available to play as. In the Campaign mode, choosing one of these classes only modifies your character's loadout, but in all other modes, your appearance will change with the class.

Episode III units will have different appearances dependant on the map they are in - for instance, the Coruscant map will have the 501st Legion, whereas Kashyyyk has the 41st, and Utapau the 212th, etc. For the Imperials, it depends on where the unit is - for instance, if the Engineer appears on Hoth, it will don an AT-AT Pilot outfit, whereas on the Death Star instead it will don a Death Star Gunner outfit.

Customizable units each have different looks - you can create up to three different looks. These will only change when the player decides to change them.

==================
==================
Heroes:
==================
==================
-The hero system is overhauled - you can now take up to two heroes into battle. In Galactic Conquest you may choose these two heroes if you have purchased them on your profile. For Instant Action, these are predetermined.
-Purchase new heroes for use in Instant Action. Four heroes, one for each faction, are available from the beginning.
-Hero update system - update each hero's abilities, including their Force Powers, their time on the battlefield, and their Stamina.
-New Force Powers:
--Mind Trick - Seize control of a single enemy for a short period of time.
--Repulse - Blast all enemies surrounding you with a massive wave of Force energy.
--Heal - gives all nearby allies a health boost.
--Grip - Grip an enemy with the Force. Useful for pulling enemies out of turrets and open-seated vehicles, or for gripping enemies and sending them flying to their deaths.

NOTE: If a Space Vehicle is not defined, then a vehicle will not spawn at the command post the Hero spawns at. Hero vehicles are only piloted by the hero they are assigned to. Heroes may use any vehicle on the map with the expection of hero-exclusive vehicles.

Campaign:
==================
==================
Two stories are included in this game.

CLONE RENEGADE: Play as an experimental Clone Trooper during the Clone Wars, as he defects after refusing to obey Order 66, and joins the Rebellion, eventually aiding in the destruction of the Second Death Star at Endor and freeing the Galaxy.

You are an experimental prototype ARC Trooper deployed during the Battle of Geonosis as a field-test for the future ARC units. You survive the Battle of Geonosis only to participate in the Battle of Kamino after the CIS invades your homeworld. After a successful campaign you are assigned to the 212th Legion with Commander Cody, and you next attack Rhen Var, attempting to drive the CIS out of the system. You are then detached to train the next batch of Clone Troopers on Kamino (non-playable) before you are informed of an attack on Coruscant by CIS forces. You participate in the defence of Coruscant alongside the legendary 501st legion, before the Jedi Council assigns you back to the 212th to assist against the last stand of the CIS on Utapau. With the death of General Grievous, Cody receives Order 66 from Palpatine, ordering the death of General Kenobi. However, you shoot Cody and flee the planet. You remain in hiding for years, until the formation of the Rebellion. You will take part in the best and worst moments of the Rebel Alliance, including the battles of Kamino, Yavin, Hoth and Endor, and culminating in the defeat of the Empire.

DARK OBI-WAN: You are a member of a Rebel Alliance Black-Ops team. You have received word of a secret Cloning Facility on Byss. Infiltrating it, you find a facility unlike any other, where Palpatine has been cloning several of the Republic's best-known Jedi heroes. You find information on a "Dark obi-Wan" project, realising that Palpatine plans on using it to replace Darth Vader with a dark-side version of his original Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The information is passed on to your leader, General Kota, who immediately alerts Alliance High Command. The Alliance tasks your Black Ops team with hunting down and destroying the Obi-Wan clone. Your mission takes you across the Galaxy, to Coruscant, Mustafar, Geonosis and Polis Massa. As General Kota you take on the deranged Dark Jedi, hunting him down until you find out that he has been killed by Darth Vader.

==================
==================
Instant Action Modes:
==================
==================

Options for play can be changed here:

General: Changing general options, such as the number of AI units allowed on the map at a time, and whether a timer is on or off.
Conquest: You can change between reinforcement points or assault points.
Classic Mode: Changes options for Classic mode - Conquest reinforcement count percentage, and Assault mode points required to win. You can also switch AI heroes on or off.
Hero: Choose whether heroes are on or off, and how many points/minutes must pass before the hero becomes available, and whether the hero is available to the best player, worst player or a random player.

==================
Conquest
==================
Play a conquest game where the goal is to capture all Command Posts, destroy the enemy captial ship and, depending on your setting, eitehr deplete enemy reinforcements to 0, or obtain the most points. Destroying the enemy captial ship is far more complex - the shields must be lowered first, which can be done from inside a capital ship (unlike Elite Squadron), or outside a capital ship with bombardment of the enemy capital ship. The ship's most vulnerable critical system, however - the main reactor - will be unavailable until all other critical systems are destroyed.

==================
Classic Conquest
==================
A Ground-only version of Conquest where your goal is to capture all command posts and reduce the enemy reinforcement count to 0. You can choose one of the two ground maps to play from, on the Instant Action menu. Dependant on which Classic Conquest mode is selected (Classic Battlefront, or Classic Battlefront II), the classes will change.

-Classic Battlefront mode: Only 5 class choices are selectable - Soldier, Heavy, Pilot, Sniper and Special. Heroes are controlled by AI. Classes do not require points to unlock - all classes are playable immediatley from the start of the battle.
-Classic Battlefront II: 6 class choices are available - Solider, Heavy, Sniper, Engineer, Commander and Special. Players may play as heroes dependant on the settings in Hero settings.

==================
Classic Assault
==================
Space-only mode where you must destroy all the enemy ship's critical systems. You gain points for every critical system destroyed, every unit killed and every ship destroyed. The Main Reactor cannot be accessed and the capital ships cannot be destroyed. Only two classes are available: Marine and Pilot.

==================
1-Flag CTF
==================
Played in either space or on the ground, your goal is to capture the flag and place it in the enemy goal to obtain points.

==================
2-Flag CTF
==================
A Ground-only mode whereby you have to invade the enemy territory to obtain their flag and return safely to your territory.

==================
Hero Mode
==================
A free-for-all mode allowing you to pick either "Heroes" or "Villains", with both teams having units spanning both eras of the game. Much like Battlefront II, heroes from both eras are playable.

==================
Hunt Mode
==================
A Ground-only mode occuring only on some maps. Either invade the enemy territory and kill all enemies or defend your territory from enemy invaders. The following maps have Hunt Modes:

-Bespin – Cloud City - Uhgnaughts vs Imperial Officers
-Coruscant – Jedi Temple - Jedi vs Republic
-Endor – Shield Bunker - Ewoks vs Scout Troopers
-Felucia – Marshland - Acklay vs Republic
-Geonosis – Spire - Geonosians vs Republic Snipers
-Hoth – Echo Base - Wampas vs Rebels
-Kamino – Tipoca City - Anti-Troopers vs Empire,
-Kamino – Timira City - Rebels vs Clones
-Kashyyyk – Beachhead - Wookies vs MagnaGuards
-Naboo – Plains - CIS Snipers vs Gungans
-Tatooine – Dune Sea - Tusken Raiders vs Jawas
In Progress:
--Star Wars: Battlefront - Anniversary Edition (formerly Star Wars: Battlefront - Legacy Edition)
--Endor: Imperial Base

On Hold:
--Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron For SWBF1

That is IMPRESSIVE!  :tu:
But tell me... what exactly it is? Is it just a plan for a modded game, or does such a game already exist?
Destroy the left, the front, the right and the back, and leave the rest to the Jedi!

This is just what I would do if I was designing the game.
In Progress:
--Star Wars: Battlefront - Anniversary Edition (formerly Star Wars: Battlefront - Legacy Edition)
--Endor: Imperial Base

On Hold:
--Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron For SWBF1

ok, I'm done trying to mod the exe. I'm not getting any results because its so hard to understand. and its illegal.

ggctuk's idea is similar to the idea i had for bf3. What i really want to do is get the ps2, PSP and xbox assets for both games.

@ggctuk: What were you talking about when you mentioned the psp modtools?

Current Projects:
Battlefront One and a Half Era Mod, v2.0. Making great progress (SWBF)

Its a nice layout ggctuk, but I would like to mention a few things.
A) 90% of what you said could be done in BF2. Space Heroes and Space Hero vehicles are something that can be found in DT2 and my TCW mod.
B) The default space hero for the CIS shouldn't be Dooku, the Solar Sailor isn't made for combat, so he should never be a space hero. Grievous is a good default.
C) One of those things I mentioned that can be done in BF2, is the Mind Trick, I made a Mind Trick weapon that changes the team of the unit it hits to your team.
D) Things that you left out that I feel should be mentioned.
D.1) Advanced Squad commands, more like in Battlefront 1, but just more effective.
D.2) Prone.
D.3) A good grappling hook weapon, and more ODF types too.

I could go on and on here. The only thing you really could do in BF2, is The 3 customizable units. You could do random heroes to go and forth between the 2 heroes, like I have done for my TCW mod. And space to ground maps can be done, not perfectly, but it can be done.
