Title: How to Install Mod Maps
Post by: {PLA}gdh92 on June 07, 2012, 05:47:28 AM
I've seen/had a few people asking how to install mod maps so I thought I would write a guide to the basics for PC as I don't think there is one on here. So here goes....

1. To make downloading quicker mod maps can be compressed to make them smaller, when you download them you need to reverse this. This is the programs I use (remember to select the 32 or 64bit version depending on your computer):
Z-zip: http://www.7-zip.org/ (http://www.7-zip.org/)

2. To download from this website go to the downloads section, find the map you want, for this example I'll use Rends coruscant streets http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=327 (http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=327), and click the writing in the center near the top.
Depending on your browser and antivirus a box should appear asking what you want to do. Click save. When it finishes downloading either click open or if it doesn't show up go to my computer then go to your downloads section (usually in the menu on the right). You should now see a folder with the map name or something similar.

3. Right click on the folder then go to '7Zip' and click 'extract here' - this will give you a new version of the folder. You can delete the old one. DO NOT CLOSE THIS WINDOW

4.All downloaded maps go in the AddOn folder of your swbf game. To find this there are two ways;
A. The easiest way is to right click on the desktop icon you use to play SWBF, click open file location, Gamedata then Addon.  This folder should already have another folder called TAT3 in it. Do not delete this it's Jabbas palace.

B. If you can't do that because you don't have a shortcut or for some other reason this is the long way to get there; My Computer/Computer-Local disk-Program files(or Program files (x86) if you are using 64 bit windows)-LucasArts-Star Wars Battlefront- Gamedata-Addon. This folder should already have another folder called TAT3 in it. Do not delete this it's Jabbas palace.

5.  You should now have two windows open; one containing the folder you downloaded and one with your addon folder which contains Tat3. To install the map just drag the folder corus2 into the addon folder. Note: Some downloads like this one come with the important files in another folder. To make sure you copy the right folder open it by double clicking and see if it contains 2 files; Data and addme script. This is the folder you need to copy.

6. Close all open windows then launch SWBF where you will find Coruscant Streets added to your map list so you can play it in singleplayer or with anyone else who has the same map installed.

Notes.
Do not place more than about 20 maps in your addon folder it may cause problems playing mod maps.
If you delete your game maps in the addon folder will also be deleted.
This guide is not for Mac users so sorry if parts don't work for you.
The majority of maps are safe but make sure you only download from trusted websites to avoid viruses.
Here is a guide to many of the available mod maps http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=310.0 (http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=310.0)

If I've missed anything out or made a stupid mistake let me know below otherwise I hope this helps a few new players :)

And for Mac users;

1. Get an extraction program that is compatible for the Macintosh, such as Stuffit, which pretty much unarchives anything you throw at it.

2. Same as with the PC, just download any map of your choice, and correctly un-archive it.

3. The Addon is in the same location as with the PC.
To get to it you must open the Star Wars: Battlefront. Application; to do this right-click/ctrl click on it and select "View Package contents".
"Addon" is under "Data".
All modified maps go here. The limit, as with the PC is roughly 20.
To prevent the need to go through the whole directory every time you wish to add or remove a map, create an "alias" of Addon, which acts a short cut, to do this right-click/ctrl click and select "Create Alias" from the drop-down menu. You can put the alias file where you like.

4. Launch SWBF and play.

I'm not an expert on any of this so I can't help much sorry. I downloaded your (very nice :) ) Tantive IV conversion to try and it works fine for me on maximum settings and I also tried it with 29 maps in the addon folder and it still worked, although I am using a good P.C.
The only thing I can think of is that the actual Addon is called 007 but you released it inside another folder called Serejas Tantive so maybe people are copying this by accident instead of opening it.

I tried installing this mod map "Bounty Hunters: Tibana Gas Depot" but it didn't work. I was wondering if I was doing something wrong. I went to the "My Computer" icon, clicked on the Program files, and went to Lucas Arts. Then I clicked on Game Data, to AddOn folder, and copied the mod map onto the addon folder. Can someone please tell me if I did something wrong? I'd really like to try this map out...

Is it possible that you've put the whole Bountyhunters1 file in your Addon folder?

You have to open the Bountyhunters1, then you'll find two things normally: a readme file and something called Bounty1.
The Bounty1 file is the thing that you have to put in your Addon folder.

It is also possible that you've reached the maximum amount of maps in your Addon folder

I suggest WinRAR.  I like it better than 7Z.

No one has posted in this thread in 4 years.  I think they have it figured out or no longer care.  Please refrain from posting in topics more than 30 days old unless there is something constructive and relevant to share.

I was going to ask why my maps don't show up, but I accidentally figured it out. The OP should have used pictures and better explain how to do things. No offense, but their English isn't that good and it makes it more confusing than helpful.

This is how it's supposed to look like when a map is installed:

I never put pictures because I used to help a lot of players via chat and it's basically that written down. There's probably plenty of improvements I could make but I hadn't realised people still use this, although it's nice to know they do.

If there's any specific bits you struggle to understand let me know and I'll do my best to change them.
