Title: ICW2 question
Post by: Helios on November 30, 2012, 02:37:53 PM
anyone have an idea of when there will be ICW 2: The Sequel?

Good question.

It's only been a few months since the ICW ended, but the shutdown of the SWBF master servers means that we are in a dramatically changed landscape. Some weeks ago, before the shutdown, I asked my advisors to give their opinion on when the best time for an ICW2 would be. In particular, I was weighing these two options:

--waiting until next summer, or
--having a (potentially reduced in scope timewise) tournament this Christmas/winter, designed to largely overlap with the time when students are off school.

There are good reasons why one, both, or neither of these scenarios will eventuate. Although I am more than willing to oversee the ICW2 in either case, whether or not it happens depends on the community. Personally, I see no reason not to have one. But I need input in this thread.

The major contenders in the ICW were, essentially, 212, FC, and YAK/ELK. That's fine. But my plans were always for the ICW2 to be even larger and more grandiose than the ICW, and I won't let recent events attenuate those plans! Specifically: I would love to see PLA join. I would love to see Alpha join. I would love to see GGR join. I would love to see WUSI join. The more people we can haul onto Tunngle/GR to participate, the better, of course.

I did all the work (just short of playing) for a couple of the clans in the ICW, which I was more than happy to do then, because there was a concept to be proved -- that a tournament of this scale was still possible. This time around, I'd rather not do that; I would expect all clans to at least have some presence on these forums in order to fulfill the roles outlined in the rules.

As before, the structure of the ICW2 is debateable and modifiable. That will come later; right now I would just like to get an idea of how the community feels. And by all means, evangelize! Was the ICW fun for you? Tell everyone (yes, I mean literally everyone, including non-SWBF players) on your xfire list. Other clans that don't really hang 'round these parts will be more easily convinced if they have multiple confederates preaching the good word, instead of just me.

Sorry to say, but Alpha Clan is moving to SWBF2. Although a few of us have Tunngle, it wouldn't be enough to fully fight in a war. Sorry.

I would love to see another ICW and I would do anything to help make it happen. Maybe for this Christmas break we could have an ICW Beta or something. It wouldn't have to be as big scale as the first since we wouldn't have as much time. But it would be a step into a huge scale ICW 2 for summer 2013  :tu:

Ya a beta ICW sounds good for Winter break.

I think that realistically speaking the only clans that could field the members now would be PLA, 212, FC and a YAK type team and the maximum players for each battle would need to be around 5 or 6 instead. It' spossible some German clans would join, I don't know what sort of numbers 21 and Enten have but it would be nice to get everyone playing together.

There are some Wusi members who still play with the Tunngle that were in Elk or Yak last time that would probably play weekly in the tournament. I know a few of them are trying to get active on swbf badly, so this might be the ticket for them.

Another ICW sounds good to me.This time 212 can give FC a run for there money. Can the battles be later in the day though because some of us that were in Yak (Me,and Frost)will still have school on those days.I do understand that it can't be to late because Euro clans.

Johns remark is mystifying given the fact that all or almost all ICW daytime battles were on the weekend..do you have school on the weekend? Do you have school during winter break?

High school's and middle school's winter breaks tend to start after the winter breaks of an institution of higher education.

And end earlier, usually. Still, the day games were on the weekend so it shouldn't be much of an issue, just as before

So how many clans are interested in ICW2? I can say with certainty that FC is.
Title: Re: ICW2 question
Post by: SirPimped on December 06, 2012, 01:12:30 PM
I am certainly interested. Since there would be a sharp decline in clans/players, would people be apposed to fighting smaller battles (5 v 5 or around that), with no reinforcement bleed, etc.? I think it would be more fun to focus on fighting rather than capping cps. Just my opinion.

Post by: Oven on December 06, 2012, 01:20:35 PM
I have yet to do the rounds of interrogating everyone I know on xfire, but based on the responses here it looks like a second tournament is possible.

How does a 4-week tournament, starting the weekend of Dec. 21-23 and concluding the weekend of Jan. 11-13, sound? The first half should overlap with the time when most secondary schools are off of school.

Also, a couple of people have mentioned the possibility of converting the tournament into a small "squad-based" war. I would strongly prefer for this not to happen — my heart pines for the glory days of large-scale clan battles; this desire was satisfied during the ICW; the player base from the ICW seems to mostly be on Tunngle; therefore I don't see a need to make this change.

However, there's no reason for all the battles in the ICW2 to be of the same nature. I will write the rules for/organize the ICW2 on the weekend before Week 1, i.e., two weekends from now; later today, I will create an ICW2 suggestions thread where we can discuss potential modifications. For example, there could be large battles that are CP-based and have a 12v12 max, and small battles that are no-CP and only 5v5 max.

How many of the admins can return to help?

I would support that idea. Capturing cp's and just an all out kill to zero tickets is a completely different game.

I am homeschooled and don't get winter break but I think I could make it at 4 est it depends on the work load for the day.I will be away for the week-end of the 29th--the 3rd Jan so if I can't  make anything there is always one in the summer

I think 5 on 5 would be best but with a rule that each team could add equal amounts if they agreed. If there were CPs I'm definately in if not I don't like playing 1.0 but I will still try.

OK, I would like a definitive list of participating clans by this Saturday, Dec. 15 at midnight EST.
Am I correct in assuming that FC, 212, and YAK will be returning, at the very least?

Too bad about Alpha; Jamman, does your remark mean that WUSI will be participating as a clan this time? Or just as a part of YAK? I would greatly prefer the former, if it can be done. If anyone can give me the xfires of other potentially interested clans, on either side of the pond, please don't hesitate.

I would also really, really like to have PLA participate. What say you, Buckler?

Here's that ICW Suggestions (http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=5757.0) thread I mentioned.

[FC] will participate.

I don't like the Maze map because Jets always sit on top and can easily guard the outer CPs from being captured, it seems too imbalanced IMO.

There are some cool mod maps that could be added but most important is to make sure they will work with dedicated hosting tools first.

Both coruscant maps should go, and maybe add naboo?

Yes PLA should join who doesn't like squashing Scorpions or breaking light bulbs. :D

In past tournaments, Jets were banned from going on top of the maze. I highly doubt many people would go for jet to protect the base, since they would just get bored sitting at a CP all game. We could just ban Jets from this map, and that problem would be fixed.

It looks good and I'll take part in some form. I would however suggest scrapping the rule of the defender choosing the team and just have two games with each player having a chance at both teams. The winner would be the one with the biggest win margin. That way we can have all stock maps as phobos suggested but without having to worry about unfair sides at some of the vehicle/jet advantage maps. I would also like to see Dantooine dust agaain. That was a fun map. :)

Weren't All power class's forbiden in the last one anyway.I think it should stay the same because then some sides are at an unfair disadvantage.

They were, I had forgotten that, although I would still like to play both sides in each match so no one cancomplain about having an advantage on some maps. Tanks were a real problem last time. :)

4 battles for every large planet?

tanks are part of swbf, at least, swbf beyond cloud city.

also, special units were prohibited from ICW, as those who participated will recall.

also, I think this discussion should be moved to the Official ICW suggestions thread.

4 battles isn't really that long, especially with cps, I enjoy playing as and fighting tanks but alot of people were complaining about them last time and one of the most popular server mods is no tanks

Oh dear the banning has started already  :XD: The ICW should stay a Clan vs Clan Tourny. The randomized teams sounds like an interesting idea but not for the ICW2 or any ICW for that matter.
