Title: Facebook Community?
Post by: Darth Verik on September 20, 2012, 10:32:09 AM
Hey, i was thinking that it might be a cool idea to have a facebook community with this site, could be nice. Any comments? Ideas?

I think that idea was raised a long time ago and there was a lack of enthusiasm.
If we're up for it I don't see why not.

It sounds like a cool idea but here are the problems that could be faced:
People don't have a facebook account ( i don't )
People might not want their personal info. given to people on the site ( not to be mean )
xfire is just as good so why don't we just continue using that?

I would "like" it :D , personally i like to see who i am playing with :P , least i have 30 down.... and i don't care if people view my info, there's not really nothing to pick on me about ;)

There is a safety issue. http://www.puresight.com/Pedophiles/Online-Predators/online-predators-statistics.html
Don't want to be a downer but they are out there and it would be horrible if this happened to someone.

this is completely irrelevant to swbfgamers making a facebook page. you can receive sexual solicitations whether or not you are part of a battlefront facebook group, or have facebook at all. you can receive solicitations on xfire, or in your email. and if you are naive enough to offer compromising personal information to strangers you should not be on facebook to begin with.

so joining a game-related group is not a security compromise in the slightest. being on facebook to begin with is a massive security compromise.

So you are rejecting the idea

So you are saying that you have a "massive security compromise" such as facebook and are willing to risk it?
What I'm saying is that IF there is an online predetor on this site ( however unlikely ) the facebook page would be another and far more effective way to get at you.

so you have conceded that there is no increased risk in joining a swbfgamers facebook group?
Title: Re: Facebook Community?

I'm saying there is. Facebook can include a lot more personal info than this site allows. So a predetor could get at you easier because he will have a lot more personal info about you then normal. My opinion and you can go ahead and join it if it happens just know that you have a higher chance of a predetor walking up to your door!  ;)

only if someone were naive enough to make their facebook page public, in which case what would they expect?

I don't have facebook, but I invite anyone who wants to violate my privacy to go ahead and try.

only if someone were naive enough to make your facebook page public, in which case they deserve to be hunted down and raped anyway.
So we agree on this?
Join the Facebook page if you hide your personal info. :)

if I made any personal attacks feel free to point them out...otherwise its important to not take disagreements personally

Tell me if I'm wrong but you will continue to agrue with me or anyone else if they disagree with you and your "tone" isn't very friendly to begin with. You are not smarter than every one else in the world.

ok in the future when I disagree with you I will not bring it up in order to insulate you from my horrible ideas

Alright quit bickering, point is no-one's forcing you to join and if you do create a FB account it can have much or as little information on it as you desire, since you're the one putting it there.

Kit, if you don't have a facebook account and don't intend to get one, then there was really no point to you even responding to this post.

So, is somebody going to make this? or will it be thrown into eternity again

I'd advocate using facebook because I don't like xfire. But other then that I really don't care

But remember, I created a ModDB account for swbfgamers too. If we're looking to post cool modding stuff, I say we use that.
