What was the Esl?

I've heard about the ESL, but i don't know what it is, what is it?

Well, ESL means Electronic Sports League and it used to be an european tourney (Most of players were Euros-Germans) until it got closed by the admins bcuz of radar and some other mods they called cheat bcuz of unfair gaming.
Actually SWBF1 ESL section is closed (and a lot of people want it opened again) but ESL is not only for swbf1, its for many games (*Arrownie, they added Haxball xD)
