Note: This is for the IN-GAME walkers for Battlefront 1. Also, don't say anything like, "It looks cooler." Please. Please give a reason why you prefer one or the other, too.

So, just thinking, I was wondering about the two big walkers in battlefront, the AT-TE (Republic walker) and the AT-AT (Empire walker) and wondered which most people would think was superior. So, feel free to post your thoughts, why you chose the walker that you did, and why you didn't choose the walker that you didn't.

I personally feel that the AT-TE is a better walker, given it is superior (IMO) in several ways. First, it holds three people instead of two. Second and foremost, is that the AT-TE can fire in all directions. YOu have the green heavy lasers in the front controlled by the pilot to fire in front of the walker. Then, you have the madly powerful big turret on top that shoots the big, blue, slow laser to give extra support in the front, extra support in the back, and to cover both sides, given it's a 360 swivel. Then you have the great gun in the back that shoots lasers in 6 doubles, rather than 2 quadruples, unlike in the front. It also fires fast. Lastly, it's shorter and slightly faster. SLIGHTLY. The reason shorter is good is because no CIS vehicles can fit under the walker, whether on Geonosis or Rhen Var Harbor. With an ATAT on Rhen Var Harbor, a human tank pilot can easily keep behind or under you, leaving you powerless to stop the walker's destruction.
All in all my opinion is:    AT-TE>AT-AT

I like the AT AT, but I think when it comes to usefullness, AT TE takes the cake.

AT AT fires pretty slow, and if you're on Hoth, when you get cornered by two speeders with cables lashing out, you're pretty much gonna have to abort ship.  The fact it only shoots from the front leaves it really vulnerable to tanks and other things. Now, the AT TE has guns in almost every direction, giving it significant cover and the firepower is much better. It's not as vulnerable, and yeah..that's pretty much it

Yeah, although a well-piloted droid tank on Harbor or a well piloted Hailfire on Geonosis can take down an AT-TE with time. On Geonosis, a TE is practically unstoppable, save for some persistent vanguards given the fact that Hailfire missiles are too erratic to fire from a distance, and the laser is pretty weak, unless it gets up close to the TE, at which point the TE will own it with its heavy firepower.  Maybe I should make this a poll topic since the reasons have already been stated.

AT-TE for me. Much faster, much more maneuverable, and the pilots don't care about em one tiny bit :P

Perhaps you could add AT-RT to the list? (Republic walker on Geonosis)

AT RT was never in any of the stock maps..

That is the AT-TE, Pi.

lol sorry, was thinking of an AT-ST republic equivalent in SWBF2 :P

Well both vehicles are very, very different. If you look at Anti-Air Combat, both vehicles are pretty much useless. Since there isn't much Anti-Air offered between Geonosis and Harbor, the real weakness of the AT-TE isn't shown. Since we're taking Air out of the picture, that's leaving just Ground.

Speed:AT-TE
Maneuverability:AT-TE
Firepower:AT-AT
Transportation:AT-TE
Vs. other Vehicles: AT-AT
Vs. Infantry: AT-TE
Armor: AT-AT

For speed and maneuverability the AT-TE wins with no contest. It's also much more useful against Infantry, since it has plenty of guns that can be used against ground troops, and due to its better speed and maneuvering, the AT-TE can chase after troops better as well.
In terms of firepower, the AT-AT wins, since its double lasers kill everything over a large area. The AT-TE has a decent arsenal, but I don't think it packs enough power compared to the AT-AT, even with the Ion Blaster cannon on the top of it. For armor, the AT-AT wins too. It takes alot of missiles to bring them down, and even enemy tanks take forever to bring down an AT-AT. An AT-TE can be easily brought down with either Vanguard or Vehicle fire, and though it maneuvers faster I don't think the AT-TE can move fast enough to dodge much fire. The added maneuverability is a nice bonus, and the vehicle can get across the field faster, but it's still a hulking giant and is an easy target.

I'd say it really depends on your strategic situation, if you want something that packs alot of heat, then bring in the AT-AT. But if you want to get your troops in to an enemy base fast the AT-TE will bring them there a bit faster. Overall, I'd personally pick the AT-AT since the firepower and armor is technically the most important thing, if there is something backing up the AT-AT that is smaller, say a TX-130S or even a Vanguard, then the enemy will be in serious trouble.

You're right there. The AT-AT definitely wins in firepower. On Harbor, if you're being attacked by a combat speeder, if both of the main lasers hit the tank, it's finished. Whereas, it takes around 6-9 main cannon shots from an TE to bring down an AAT. What I would to see is an AT-AT vs. AT-TE fight. It would all depend on the situation. If it was a head on battle, with neither vehicles moving, just pumping all of their lasers at the enemy, then it would be AT-AT. However, if the vehicles were walking in a strategic battle, then I'd give it up to the AT-TE, because since it is faster and smaller, and the AT-AT can't aim too far to the sides, the TE would sneak around and attack. Overall, they are both great vehicles, and all have their own attributes. And it would be like a half and half wins for each vehicles if they were fighting. But, droideka is right for either vehicles. When he says that an anti-armor escort would be a good idea (Basically) he's right. On Harbor, a TX accompanying a TE or AT would be pretty devastating. Or a gunship pilot keeping a watchful eye over the TE on Geonosis. Or on Hoth, an AT-ST and a Vanguard (For the snowspeeders) is deadly. But the AT-AT is at a disadvantage on Hoth, because it can be tripped by a snowspeeder. The AT-TE has zero air threat. Geonosis, those Geonosian Starfighters don't have the firepower to bring it down. No aircraft on Harbor, either.

AT-TE is best

on AT-AT you can got owned by speeders and is tooo big and the speed is slower(you can got owned in 10 seconds.)
on AT-TE you can got owned by CIS vehicles with rockets (need 20+ rockets to destroy a at-te)

If you have 2 smart pilots, you can just walk the AT-ATs right next to each other, so you don't get killed by speeders.

I'm not a huge fan of vehicles TBH.

At-te's rock.

1st of all, even if there were speeders on Harbour, they wouldn't be able to take the At-te down by tripping it (I guess if they were really good pilots) as the At-te's so close to the ground, and it's legs are small. Also on the At-te you can transport (I think) 4 people, and on the At-At only 2.

"Your foe is well equipped, well-trained, battle-hardened. He believes his gods are on his side. Let him believe what he will. We have the tanks on ours."

I have to choose the AT-AT. In a battle, the AT-AT, although it has only two pilot seats, can take more damage than the AT-TE, and it can deliver a heavier punch too.

I'm not necessarily saying who would win against EACH OTHER, more of which is just generally better. Nothing in the CW era calls for the AT's tremendous firepower, and it's quite easy to take down an AT on Harbor, which is why I have to go with AT-TE. We all know who would win in a 1 on 1 straight on fight, the AT of course. But that's not my point. But that is a cool video.
