SWBF2 on Steam Mod compatible?

Yeah,  I have SWBF2 off the steam version, and I have a whole bunch of custom maps and mods installed on it. You can install it the way the ReadMe will direct you, you just have to go into "Steam/steamapps/common/swbfii" or something similar to that and plunk your stuff in there.

Yep. That reminds me, I need to swap my laptop's RAM for something more powerful to support both Steam and SWBF2 at the same time (It runs many maps but not all)
