connection to host lost

So I got a new laptop (thanks to my sister-in-law) and installed SWBF.  According to the system analysis the graphic card lacks Transform and Lighting,  but was able to install anyway.  Every thing seems to work fine with the game except for when I join a server.  It goes through the loading process and then  I get "connection to host lost" 

It also works fine when creating a server.

I have tried turning of the fire walls and installed  Gamespy to see if that was the problem.
I also Installed the Updates for the graphic card and still the issue persists.

double check fire wall settings.

Also, if you can try the computer with a wired internet connection that can tell you if something with your wireless signal is acting up.

I will think about it some more.

Fire wall is off and I don't have a wireless router.  When I am at home the Ethernet cable is always connected directly. 

I am a little curious to know if I was able to join something on a direct connection.
