Title: *RELEASE* Raka's Adventure Beta
Post by: Breakdown on March 07, 2010, 09:06:50 PM
Edited by buckler:  Link is broken, if anyone has these files, please let me know and we can put them up here.

----RAKA'S ADVENTURE beta----
by Breakdown

Story:

Raka is a young peasant, a lone survivor of a deadly invasion that
took his people from the land to make them slaves. There is a fairy
tale that says in the Brown Mountains there lies a portal to the
lair of Lord Arnold, the Wielder of Noroth. However, in order to
use this portal, the seeker must also find 4 energizers scattered
across the land..

-----
/end cheesiness

Well here we are, beta release of Raka's Adventure. After a long
five or so months of work (with countless breaks) I feel I have
a map that is in presentable and working condition for play. Due
to the map being based on searching, I decided I will just give you
a quick flythrough of where the "energizers" are at.

-Lake (island near the middle
-Castle (near the top of a tower)
-Maze (in the woods area)
-City (on top of the arch)
- Mountains (there is a smooth slope to climb up somewhere
near the base of the mountains)

I don't want to give you too many hints, I want it to be challenging
as possible.

So, you're pretty much on your own. Go to MPCGamers.com to give
feedback and comments regarding the map.

The actual lair of "Lord Arnold" will be in a map coming out soon
as well.

Good luck!

Also, note this doesn't work in MP, sorry.

Just to give everyone a heads up, this map is designed for the patient and the efficient, seeing how this map is huge and the AI doesn't play nicely here. Also to mention that you only get a few lives.

In other words, this map is made of completely awesomeness and it's nothing like other maps you've played.

Heh, thanks for the compliments.

Also, please post your feedback here or on SWBFFiles when it's out there. I don't want people to hurl a whole whack of suggestions to me on Xfire only for me to log off and lose all the suggestions when the chat window closes.

All feedback and comments are appreciated!

i just tried it out. here are my pros and cons

CONS:
-I crashed after about 5 mins (maybe just me though)
-Taun Tauns die too quickly when you leave them
-Skeletons are a little weird

PROS:
-very good map design and layout
- i like the different sword animations
- fun challenges to overcome
Title: Re: *RELEASE* Raka's Adventure Beta
Post by: Breakdown on March 08, 2010, 04:33:03 PM
Yeah the size of the map makes it so crashes are probably to happen

It's odd, you and HC have both told me the Taun Tauns die if you leave them, they've never died for me.

Skeletons on the bad guys are funny looking yeah, :P, but I kinda like it.

Same here, I still haven't beaten the first Raka because I forgot all about it  :P

I got so close, I was about to fly up to the ship but a bot took the only fighter left and it didn't respawn, so I was stuck on the ground  ???

I'll give you some feedback later today

If you don't approach the Taun Tauns from the entrance of the fence they will die. Means if you just jump over the fence they die. Cool map that detects if you try to cut corners a crash happens. It is cool.

Supre job Breakdown. The Taun tauns died on me too, unless they ran away. But the map never crashed on me yet. I'll be enjoying this map for a while since I've only found one CP so far. The scenery is beautiful so I don't mind wandering around.

It's an amazing map BD, I have a habit of never going the right way so the map crashes a lot for me.

Taun tauns didnt die for me but i did have some large lagg on this map...what is a real shame because the map at first sight is very good indeed. One small thing tho...if i were you í'd make some more Cps for the enamy thing or just make the map smaller. Also...all my bots were gettering in the centre of the map exept 2 or 3 they were walking to all things

still nice map one problem...lagg

Thank you for the feedback, everyone

Verik, there isn't much Ican do lag wise, some people's computers just can't handle it. Plus there's really no possible way to make the map "smaller".

Either you have a really low end computer or you deleted some file, because I don't thinkit's happened to anyone else.

Hi BD,
I haven't forgotten, but I've been feeling ill lately so I haven't thoroughly tested it out yet.
I tried it once, and it seems like it will be fun locating the four energizer things.
I'll give some feedback after I feel better and try it out more.

Comments on good and bad things:

Bad things:
-bd....i'v been taking a serious look at the map now i have some time. when i enterd the castle (atleast what it looked liked) i had to glich whit my taun taun to get in... maybe a open door will be better for this

-when i was in the castle i went exploring the upperlvls however i fell into the depps and saw this:

(https://www.swbfgamers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi818.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fzz108%2FMasterVerik%2FPicture46.png&hash=aa04f8f00ecd90d8f097d0b368c8db3813522e38)
a lot of buildings under the normal lvl (maybe good idea to take that away)

-in the square place there is this big chappel thing...and on there there are things to stand on i'd like to know how to get there.
(https://www.swbfgamers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi818.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fzz108%2FMasterVerik%2FPicture45.png&hash=03c8f475d06f30e563ae92c2c5793a247ae04806)

-Also at the enamy Cp that can be captured there is or a glich or something els because every entrance i come it seems like that place is some sort of iland however you can still walk on it (not a problem for me but it seems strange)

Not good not bad:
- Taun tauns dont die underwater
(https://www.swbfgamers.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi818.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fzz108%2FMasterVerik%2FPicture37.png&hash=f9cc6defd8fc0d83f36ff42a758945e970231ca0)

Title: Re: *RELEASE* Raka's Adventure Beta
Post by: Breakdown on March 13, 2010, 08:44:29 AM
Thank you for your feeback Verik, it's what I really appreciate when I release a map!

The entrance to the castle should be on the other side you enter, there should be two staircases leading up from it, and it is is reddiosh brown in color. Unless you are referring to how to get into the actual castle, not just the main area inside the walls. In that case, there's a tunnell on the west side leading into it.

The floating buildings under the terrain I can't help. In Zero Editor, whenever I try to delete an object,  it ends up deleting that object and 5 others it seems.

Example, I accidentally place a tower where I didn't need it. If I delete it, then three of my most carefully placed walls inthe maze will dissapear, and 2 of the CP's will dissapear (it's happened to me), so instead I just move the unwanted object under the terrain, where nobody should be bothered by it.

The 'chapel thing' is where the CP for that area is, if you are referring to the arch with the bridges going up to it. Just look around the city area and you'll begin to piece together how to get up there, *hint* it involves platforming similar to the lake.

Quote-Also at the enamy Cp that can be captured there is or a glich or something els because every entrance i come it seems like that place is some sort of iland however you can still walk on it (not a problem for me but it seems strange)

Could you get a screenshot of this? I don't understand what you mean.

The glitch where Taun Tauns can get underwater is annyoing, and can ruin the challenge for some parts of the map. I'm working on trying to get rid of that glitch but not sure how I can at the moment

As for the tenticles, well then just don't go up to the wall next to them.

SWBF AI is seriously retarded, I have no idea why they always gather to one spot, I've tried using bot paths but they just all go to the square. Next version will hopefulyl have this fixed.

Thanks for the other compliments, but could you tell me where that last screenshot is? I recall I deleted all those tunells leading throug the mountain? (temporarily, it's still under construction)

excellent job bd

This map is awsome. Great job with the scenery-i love the lake challenge and the mountains are fantastic.  I took like a kazillion screenshots while playing, but i dont know how to post them.  And the taun tauns also die for me after a short period of time.  Also, not all of the bots run to the square.  About 10 head to the lake, and they all push each other in. swbf ai are very retarded indeed.
Notes:
-I couldnt figure out how to get to the arch in the city.
-When i got inside the castle (love the tunel) i was running down some stairs when i fell halfway through the floor and died.
-The river part is hard >:(
-Maze is uber laggy (whats up with the tentacles?)
-I love the mountains, but the taun tauns dont die of the falls, which makes it a little unrealistic.
Overall Great Job :tu:

The map is done in my book. I like the compact claustrophobic passages the best then second the jumping to get some where. And last the maze is cool once you know the tentacles are passable.

It looks nice, Breakdown - I can't play it, but from the images posted here it looks like you were pretty creative. Some of the prop objects could have used a retexture (Naboo objects specifically), but the design itself looks pretty solid - and kudos for taking a real stab at a mission map in SWBF1 without Lua scripting!

Quote from: Breakdown on March 07, 2010, 09:06:50 PMMaveritchell - inspiration for the map with his Vace Thermill missions
in SWBF2.

I don't know if you have SWBF2, but if you do, and the above is the case, you might want to try out my Spira: Besaid - the Vace Thermill missions are much less reminiscent of what you have here. Spira is much closer in that it is a fantasy adventure spread out over a single map with platforming elements.

Well i just took another look at the map, except i was using sides from the atf chaos mod so i could see all the scenery :P
For the tunel that leads under the moat to the castle, there is a section with no roof that extends out into the middle of the water.  I dont know if this was intentional or not but it just seems a little weird.

There is talk about how this mod map is kind of unstable in certain situations which I haven't experienced. So I ask you, you were able to play around in this mod map with modded troops? I will believe it when you show screen shots, video or even broadcast video.

I gave it a try. It's definitely challenging. As of yet I haven't been able to get any of the cps.
But I only tried it twice so far. I did notice some glitches in a few places. For example in the city you can walk through some of the walls.
But it looks good. And a challenging map is always fun.
Good work BD.

Thanks anyway. :)

Haha thanks for the comments! Nice to see you managed to get to the castle platform, out of curiousity, how did you get there? Did you have to do the jump between the gap? (That one where there is two sections of tunnells, and in the middle is a gap)

Thanks again, I appreciate it!

Also, to go along with your pirate ways, wouldn't this map make you sea-sick? Surely pirates don't ride cars!

T'would be a shame on all pirates if I claim ta 'ave been sea-sick, laddy. But I 'ope no shame come ta me if I be only car-sick.
Here's how I did the castle one

Ah good! You did the castle exactly as I planned for it to be done. I was expecting a shortcut of some sort.

No prob. It was fun.
Great map. Great design and planning.
A few collision errors, but still very fun.

On the mountain area, the place where you have to go around to get to the small ice bridge, i tried that before viewing the video and i just randomly died :(
maybe it had to do with the fact that i was not on my tauntaun?

Yeah, that's probably why. The Taun Taun likely has better traction than Raka does.

It also survives some unrealistic feats such as going underwater, flaing off the mountain, etc.

That is purely a problem with SWBF's engine itself and the way the taun taun is created, IE: the Taun Taun to SWBF is a tank, and as such can survive things that a animal could not.

Well maybe that was better for this map, because most of the things are bugs were you can only come in by the taun taun (what is exuly fun)
