I'm a bit rusty, but is there any reason why these particular SWBF2 assets wouldn't work in SWBF1? Have you munged them to see if they'd work?

Say, I just noticed this thread and all the awards everyone's been getting and thought "I'd like an award too!"

I am an avid player of Battlefront 1 (2004) to such a degree I've made a custom map for it with a second on the way with custom structures made in XSI, and I occasionally play Battlefront II (2005). I tried out Battlefront 2015 and Battlefront 2 (2017), but IMO only 2017 was the only EA game worth playing (after game was cleaned up). Though I'd have to wait until I get more RAM to play EAfront 2 again.

Also I helped playtest TWD a little bit back in 2015 and gave feedback on how to improve some things.
No problem! I assigned the first few, did you want awards for the EA titles?

Nice work!

As someone who spent the last year or so on a century-spanning heritage project, I think it's really important to document these things!

Fun fact: When I was talking to Psych0fred about this map, he told me that at some point they enacted something like an "8-second rule" (I could be misremembering the number).  Basically, if you can't reach combat in 8 seconds by walking, it's too far apart.

To try to mitigate this issue without losing the "direct conversion directive" I have set for myself, I did bump the AI up to 40 per side and 18 tuskens.  It helps slightly with getting into action but of course there's still a ton of walking. In line with this directive, I also took portions from the original map lua (like AddCameraShot and death regions) and added them in.
Neat! I'm glad Fred is still out there answering these kind of questions.

Between this and the proto-Naboo map, it seems like the devs initially created maps that are reminiscent of early mod map attempts... in which map creators were possessed with a need to create great big empty maps with a bunch of vehicles littered about.

That's not to say I dislike that kind of map! Rhen Var: Dirty Ice is still one of my favourites.

The X1 & X2 storyline was wacky, but fun.

I didn't realise the model featured X2 still wearing some of the Clone Armour during the GCW part of the story.

Great work with the editing / rigging!

There were a good few amusing characters on the Mac side.
It wasn't so hard to coordinate playing on Mod maps either thanks to the chat on Game Ranger. Back in the day there were perhaps only a handful of maps that didn't work on Mac (never figured out why). Me and some other guy would casually 1v1 on most of the maps that were listed with a good rating on FileFront (remember Filefront)?!

I just remembered we had a player / forum member called 'Buccaneer' that spoke like a pirate at all times, even in-game. I think they were PC though.

I did a complete playthrough on my channel on physical hardware, for a more detailed look at everything included.

That moving aurora effect on Rhen Var is fab!

And suddenly all of those theories about the Officer class have been turned on their heads. The clone Officer being a red ARC trooper and not the yellow-lined unit found in images (which was a prototype Pilot)? Interesting.

I'll have to rewrite portions of my retrospective in light of this video.

Haha, I immediately thought of your retrospective when I saw this.

It's nice that new revelations come out after all these years though!

Looks great! Hit me up if you need any texture assistance; I'm less lazy nowadays.

The Rebels attacking on Rhen Var Harbour is so weird.

Aw, homie I got a video for you:

https://youtu.be/ky9Az1Z2-1c

This was back in the glory days when one server was always full and people duke it out in one map for hours. So many players that when you press tab you'd have to scroll down to see the entire list of players.

The thing I remembered most in these days was not the amount of activity and amount of people that played, but the players themselves.

There were so many good players, with plenty more noobs coming in who'll eventually come to be great players too. When you see them learn, they can surprise you in many ways.

Then there were the great players. People who were so good at one class that they become juggernauts on their own. The snipers were the scariest especially when they're on one team. The sight of a single clone jet trooper flying and then 3-5 long lines of red converging into one spot is a sight you'll never forget. They never talk either lol.

Then there were the best players. Players who were so good at any class they play. You give them one class to play and I'll guarantee you they'll top frag and be like 20+ kills over second highest frags. I think there were three players at that time that I can with no hesitation say were the best. I really miss them and I hope they're all doing fine now.

But yeh, that's pretty much how it all was until the servers shut down. It was quite something let me tell you.

Aye, it was the same in the Mac Game Ranger community. There was a core of perhaps 50 folk who played every evening, and then some hardcore undefeatable player that everyone knew would rock up and cause mayhem.

uh oh, nostalgia time

The big tournaments were great, i fondly remember letting the genie out the bottle and forming the [YAK] clan (I can't remember if it was actually meant to stand for anything) with Snake for the clan-less folk who wanted to participate.
Those tournaments were usually high drama with inter-clan bickering, but the battles were fun, even though I don't remember winning many.

I think the peak of fun for me had to be the well populated Game Ranger (rip) servers for Mac players, as there would always be a good amount of folk playing on a CC NO BOTS NO CPING server.
