Thanks for helping port the Gran, despite Mav's unjustified opposition.

Requests / Help Stabilizing the Millenium Falcon
July 28, 2010, 01:59:16 PM
So recently I've been working on maps and I wanted to add the Millenium Falcon. I downloaded something called "Conversion_Pack_Vehicles_e" a large pack of vehicle assets and copied over the files for the Falcon. The problem is in multiplayer it crashes instantly, and in SPTEST it doesn't, furthermore there are no error logs to go by. I was wondering if someone could help me make changes to the ODF source so that it doesn't crash, I'm not sure what exactly is doing it but I'm 90% sure its the ODF:

No that's not necessarily correct - you definitely should feel a sense of pride and accomplishment in your modding work (and in what you may have learned in the process of modding). The community benefits from the expansion of the game, the modder in my honest belief, benefits from having something to be proud of (if done well that is).  I suppose one could be proud that they've expanded the game beyond what the developer had intended, which is also good, but some measure of pride in one's work is definitely a component of good modding - otherwise, what are modders then to be - spiritless robots just solely working to push a game beyond its borders for the sake of it?  Nonsense.  You do it to have something to show off, to put forth as "Here's what I did!"   Good modders especially don't tend to show off things that they're not proud of.  It fuels their enthusiasm to keep chugging away for hours on end.

You can tell a bad modder - he shows off stuff, but there's not any love for it in his own work. It's just something he whipped together and puts out on the internet.  Maybe it was just a quick experiment, or something that he worked on and gave up and decided to post anyway for some quick attention.  No pride in your work?  You won't last long as a modder on whatever project you may be working on.

The only negative is when pride turns into a fixation about what the community thinks of you and your modding efforts - whether people believe your claims that you did all your modding work unaided or what not, or whatever else you feel might be a "claim to fame".  As I said, you're a modder, if you did something you know was worthwhile, be proud of it.  Just don't overhype it to others (most folks don't care how much you may have learned in the process or how you did it).

I disagree with your argument that it is incorrect to say modding is about pride and not expanding the community. Not have pride does not make one a spiritless robot, because one will not be enticed to not help other modders and claim it is for their own good to learn everything from scratch rather than work towards a collective effort. Making a map can have the following intentions:
1) Showing off
2) Expanding the community
Enthusiasm can be fed from either of these. A modder without pride is not going to not last long on their projects if they consider 2) to be a priority. A bad modder is one who lacks 2) and is either full of only 1) or lacks both.
You can go too far with pride but you can't go too far with expanding the community. In fact, pride more often than not has detrimental effects on the community.

modding isn't about pride it's about expanding the game.

Actually, blood came WITH swbf, it was never used though. There is an effect in the Shipped Common Effects folder called bloodspray.fx it is going to be in my Mania Mod.
bloodspray.fx is the effect currently being used for the zombie map

"We" refers to the sad group of childish idiots who spend all day proliferating their ego on the MPC forum.

BTW Phobos, you are nowhere near cool enough to use any of the tim emoticons.

The "overly-egomaniac-wounded-artist" is yourself Zorba. Get over your ego one day maybe before calling yourself an active modder.

wow, no idea who you are, but maybe you should try and recognize that MPC has no direct ability to go convince people to buy a game that came out some 5 years ago. Maybe you could politely complement MPC for the times you had here and leave (if you so choose).

Sorry if i am out of line MPC.

I'll compliment the people who willingly at least shared part of their assets assets (including Mav). Creating new mods/maps for games usually brings in more "customers" per se. I'm just letting you know that I am for the SWBF community BEFORE the MPC community.
#3315
"Mav's not making the game have less modding abilities." - No but he is allowing it to happen rather than help it so don't pretend he isn't. I can see now that you and MPC would rather see it stagnant or declining rather than growing. This forum has run it's course, I will find a more active community with higher regards toward SWBF and community efforts. Also have fun with your ego by locking topics from my public response, only exposes you for who you really are even more. Have a holly jolly time worshiping each other's egos instead of trying to build the SWBF community.
