Title: Strange things in SWBF
Post by: Led on February 19, 2009, 02:12:31 PM
Hi,

The post is to see if anyone else has seen (or heard) strange things in SWBF, that shouldn't be part of the game.
I'm not talking glitches, wallhacks, or mods, but really weird stuff.

I'll share mine:

-a few months ago, i was playing cloud city, and I saw some shadows on the ground, that seemed to move
I looked closely at them, and the were shaped like arrows.  It was as if I saw the shadow of the mini-map arrows, but
on the main map!  Never saw it again after that round.

-while playing hoth (Jedikiller's no-vehicle version)  I started sniping.  Instead the the sniper rifle sounding like usual,
all sniper rifles made the sound like:  riiinnng riiinnng  boonk!  Crazy stuff.  I also seemed to be hitting shots like never before--
sniping recon driods, making headshots, and stuff.  Again, it went away at the end of the map, never to be seen again.

OK--anybody else?  :)

Buckler, aka Led on the PC servers.

I've never had anything weird happen in the game...except when I got beat by another member if TiW, Crazyhorse.....and he never wins....that was weird!

They do that sometimes. It's called auto-aim.

*Digging in the oldest topics*
I have some creepy storys like LEDS... on that won't scare you too much is::  (lol)

RhenVar: Harbor, 1:30 AM, {TcF}Allied-Server, players[{TcF}=RC-54={PFC}, {Recruit}David]

Me and him were on late that night, and Penguin said "Alright, I think its about time I went to bed."
He left.. His body was still there for 3 minutes...
Then RC-54 had to leave after a bit of "patrol" around the "town".
I was still on for some reason, and he came back, and said "nvm, i don't hafto go :P" I said "Yay!"
We continued on our patrol, then Penguins body disappeared, and we heard REALLY weird noises
(like bucklers) when we fired our grenades, then, we moved our cross hairs over the big centeral building on the map, we saw a blurry object move across the "windows" of it, and our Cross hairs turned BRIGHT RED
(not the usual red), and they never turned off until we quit the server.
and what was creepy was BOTH of us saw it!. Then again 1 year later, SAME EXACT story, but at 12:00 and we both had new names....

My little spooky story, one of the many...

A CIS pilot air killed me once. It was an AI

I'm sure I've had some strange thing happen like that before. I've played for a long time, but I just can't remember them right now :slap:.

I was jet-packing high into the sky on Platforms, as a darktrooper and somehow managed to get shot out of the air by an ai gunner in a Y-Wing.

WHen I was first learning how to mod sides, I decided to make a jedifighter that would fly at breakneck speed (like I set the maxspeed and acceleration to over 900000). Testing it on Bespin Platforms. I was going so fast I think I broke the game's collision because I flew right through a Gunship and neither me or the gunship blew up.

The most annoying weird thing I can think of (and this has happened quite a few times), is sometimes when I am piloting a rebel combatspeeder an imperial vanguard can magically kill me when the rocket hits windshield and my character is killed and forced out of the tank which is still alive. I haven't seen this bug with any other completely enclosed hover vehicles.

Back in the PS2 days I was playing split screen with a friend on Kashyyyk: Docks (on hard mode).
We camped out at the top right  platform with 1 reinforcement left (the count wasn't auto dropping for some reason). To prevent our one last bot from dying we were spamming the
"hold your position command". This was going well for a while, we'd managed to get the CIS down from 100 to 40 when something really weird happened.

Suddenly our bot Clone Trooper friend turned around and started making pain noises "EURGH... ARGH... EUGH" And he dropped dead for no reason and the defeat screen popped up.

I often see phantom bots in mod maps which are miles away from the bot route and just stand there staring blankly.

That's because the command in the .odf (PilotExposed or something like that) is set to 1 which turns it on.

I remember one time I got owned by an ai but I died about 15 times (it was on kill cam but it kept showing me falling and then getting back up and then instantly falling again)

Are you just making an assumption here or perhaps you could elaborate on this? I've looked through all_hover_combatspeeder.odf and all_hover_combatspeeder_exp.odf and there are no references anywhere to PilotExposed. The word exposed does not appear even once.
Title: Re: Strange things in SWBF

IsPilotExposed      = "0"

This command sets that but it isn't in the combatspeeder odf.

This command sets that but it isn't in the combatspeeder odf.

So omitting this code from any vehicle ODF would in theory set the default to 1.
The only problem with that theory is
imp_hover_fightertank.odf
also does not have IsPilotExposed yet with this vehicle you cannot be killed from an outside rocket. So I still believe that in the case of the rebel combatspeeder there is some kind of bug with the collision or MSH itself and not something in the ODF allowing this to happen.

You can get killed in the IFT-X tanks if you are a gunner, but not the pilot position...

Games glitch from time to time, nothing is solid 100% in computers. Can you produce the result again of it happening? If so it is likely that the collision primitives are unintentionally setup in a such away that allows a blast on just the right angle to touch the collision of the pilot sitting inside the vehicle.

A very easy way to produce that effect is play GCW Theed on HARD. The AI snipers will try to shoot you out of the tank. But be sure not to kill any one or else they can't kill you! :tu:

That is exactly what I am thinking SK, that there must be a very small portion of the windshield which lacks collision, and appears solid but can be shot through. It would take some time to produce a video of this result but I can assure you it can be replicated. The hard part in determining the exact angle is further complicated by the fact the rockets in virtually all servers are set to lock on to vehicles. It might be easier to try replicating this scenario in a server which mods out vehicle lock-ons for rockets. But I have seen this happen at least 10 times over the past few years and never with the CIS clone or imperial tanks just rebel (kitfisto i am not talking about secondary copilot positions at all here i understand your point).

The most recent time this happend was a week or two ago in enteichichc server. I was sitting on top of the mountain and some dude from across the map shot me out of the tank (full health) with a rocket

Eh, I'm not one for strange phenomenon in SWBF, but there is one weird story I recall, nothing spooky, just plain weird.

Ok, so the one day I was on a server with some players (I know a Wusi was there, forget who though), and we were just doing a regular hallway battle on CC. So, one of the guys shot me, I died, and respawned. When I clicked spawn, there was a 3 second delay, and next thing I know, I show up dead again. So I chatted saying I just died as I spawned, no mines were in the CP, at all. Next thing I know, I realize that the Wusi guy (again, I forget his name), had actually scored a perfect headshot on me, RIGHT at the exact moment I spawned, which explains why I didn't see my HUD at all and why I died. Bizarre, a one in a million shot, and it happened. Still amazes me to this day that such a rare occurrence could happen.

FINALLY this topic is bumped!!!            One day, after the shutdown, right before I was to go to my grandma's house, I started playing a SP game. It was a mod map, but I doubt that had anything to do with it. So when the map was starting, something seemed very, VERY odd, but I couldn't put my finger on it. When I got to the spawn selection, ALL the characters where INVISIBLE, only the guns could I see. The droideka, lol just plain invisible. So after I was playing around with floating guns, I noticed that the map became night, and that for some reason I was blowing apart buildings (sorta) with grenades. I exited the game to see the blue screen, yeah, that one. totally weird. About a month after this, I noticed the screenshots of the glitch mysteriously disappeared. This glitch, has, NEVER, happened again. BUT, a strange thing happened awhile after this strange occurance, I played the same map, with the same era, and it was INSANELY laggy. I exited the game to see, you guessed it, the evil blue screen.

Actually getting spawn killed from a headshot in the hallway on CC is pretty common (with no spawn protection) considering the rebel spawn node is right there in the center where you can be shot i've seen it happen there all the time.

What you witnessed was just Pandemic's abandoned plans to introduce the new Stealth/Ninja deka.

@josh, when I modded my misson.lvl and put the dark trooper files in the places of the other empire sides, I couldn't see anything on the spawn screen where ever the troopers used to be, it would only be there for the last class, but it would still spawn as darktrooper if I clicked the empty spawn ones(which was what I had hoped for).

He means the result was close to the same. Not that the maps were somehow related.

That could be if all those other things didn't happen as well. I'm thinking (be afraid, thinking is something rarely done in my brain), that when the game was loading, an issue with my PC happened. But instead of the game shutting down, the blue screen was just in the background. And i think the blue screen made the computer not be able to reach some needed files, like soldier bodies.
