Steady on now, you can hardly claim copyright over the patched executables. Making and distributing them is very much a legal grey area in of itself. Is there really the need to get hostile about this? He put attribution and a link to the site at the start of his guide and furthermore gave credit to everyone at the end of it.
Thanks for taking the time to write this. There is value to having it there on Steam and it may help people who want to play online but don't follow any community find the way.

You're gonna get less people if they have to make accounts in order to download the client

Long live -SR- greatest Swbf2 clan!

In my personal oppinion it's better to provide some sources of where to get the file. I could have use GameRanger back in 2014 but I didn't like the registration. Also I used to provide the executables for free without registration (which also increased the actually online players a lot).

I know you guys only used GameMaster because you've made own executables and also provide a download in your download section for them.

And you can't deny someone from hosting them on another site. You don't have any copyright on the executable files so he can distribute them all the way he want.

It's always better to provide as much executables as possible around the communities to get as much people as possible connected together with one solution. If you don't want to distribute your hosting solution to anybody outside of you community just make your forums private to any guest ;) - the only thing you don't need is to provide actually support for any other executables so people would use them at their own risk.

Thanks Kalle.  I think the issue is resolved.  My preference is direct people here so that we can assist with troubles and verify the authenticity of the files, but in the end, the goal is to get players to play the game so I do not care if they are placed elsewhere.

There are, of course other methods to access the master server other than patched executables and any guest can see those as well.

Some people will always be irritated that they have to register here to get downloads.  But I will never divulge anyone's email address or spam anyone, or have any advertisements here--which is unlike most other file hosting websites around the web.  Since this is the case, I consider free registration to be a very low cost for players.
