I downloaded some map packs but some of them don't have map names within Battlefront 2. One person suggested editing addme.script, but when I try to open that in Notepad, some of the text is unreadable. How can I edit the map names?
I tried editing in "BF2_modtools.exe" but my downloaded version from LucasArts gives me a "insert disc 1" error.
Try downloading the 1.1 patch. http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.com/file/Star_Wars_Battlefront_2v11_Patch_International;57009 (http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.com/file/Star_Wars_Battlefront_2v11_Patch_International;57009)
I believe the patch 1.1 is the general game update (which is already installed), and I was referring to the executable within the Mod Tools not loading. My real question is still how to edit a mapname after it has been munged (since downloaded mods are in .lvl and .script files). How do I edit the mapname in addme.script? Apparently it can be done (http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=2099.msg22850#msg22850) but I must be missing something, and in Notepad the text is not all readable.
I believe that post refers to the addme.script before it is munged.
After it is munged, you would need to use a hex editor to (carefully) make any adjustments.
Buckler, do you have a suggestion for a easy hex editor so I can learn how? Would I open addme.script directly? After making edits, can I save addme.script in the hex editor and replace it back into its folder to open in Battlefront 2? Unless there is a way to un-munged it, change the name, and munged it back...?
This one is pretty good. http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.com/file/Star_Wars_Battlefront_2v11_Patch_International;57009 (http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.com/file/Star_Wars_Battlefront_2v11_Patch_International;57009) You'll have to restrain yourself to renaming it to something that has the same amount of letters. That means you can only replace existing ones you can't add new ones.
I think sleepkiller meant to post a different link.
Here is a link to the "handy software" thread.

xvi32 is what i use
There is no way that I know of to unmunge it.
However, if you were good with mod tools, then you should be able to set up a dummy map with the name that you want and re-create the addme.script that you want.
