Our verification system will not change.

You should not notice any changes at all.  I only made this post in case some of our addons stop working for some (remotely possible) reason.

Chill my peeps  ;)

Thank God. I'd rather not be tortured with some MI6 verification process each time.

It is easier to apply incremental updates rather than major updates.  Generally, these are security fixes and not any functional changes to anything.

Talking of changes, may I bring back the request for likes on posts? I can't remember the exact reason it was removed before, but I've realized a couple of comments that I guess wouldn't have been so necessary if we had likes:

If comments could have likes, I'd like this. ^^

If comments could have likes, I would like this. :P

I'm pretty sure the reason the feature was removed was because people didn't like it or something?

Has anyone tried logging in to SMF's official site? Their verification is  :censored: , if this is what the login system is going to be like I think I'll be forced to leave. Their "enter the letters in the image" crap is annoying. I seriously CANNOT pass it. I mean hell, put it in binary because I'll crack that quicker than their deformed verification system.

Will there be any new features with this?

And what is it about?

Dear Members,

Simple Machines Forum has released a new patch to the 2.0.x line, bringing our latest release version to 2.0.12.

This patch is a security and maintenance release, which focuses on fixing a couple of minor bugs, while adding some enhancements and a patch to a security vulnerability reported in the software. Therefore, it is important that you install this patch in a timely manner.

If you are running version 2.0.11, you can upgrade your forum to the latest version by using the package manager. As usual, you should see the upgrade notification in the admin panel notifications and in the package manager, which will allow you to download and install the patch seamlessly.  If you don't see the notification about the upgrade patch, please run the scheduled task "Fetch Simple Machines files" from the Scheduled Tasks page (Admin > Maintenance > Scheduled Tasks > Fetch Simple Machines Files (check the "Run Now" checkbox and click the "Run Now" button)).

If you use older versions of SMF, you can upgrade directly to 2.0.12 from whichever version you are currently using by using the "full upgrade" archive from the downloads page. Be aware that using this upgrade method will require you to reinstall any customizations that you have added to your forum, so if you are running a version of the 2.0.x series, it is recommended that you apply the successive patches instead of using the full upgrade.

You can view the change log for the latest release, as usual, on the downloads page.

If you are having problems downloading the patch from the admin panel, you can download the patch package from the upgrade patches page and install it via the package manager, as you would any other mod package

Please refer to the Online Manual for more details about:
Upgrading
Patching

Thank you for using SMF!

Regards,
Simple Machines Forum

Videos and Screen Shots / Re: Weird SWBF1 Tank Glitch
October 01, 2016, 03:23:02 AM
It's the beginning. Robots are taking over the world, AI is going out of control!

But in all seriousness, I often get this on Rhen Var. There is a fix, I just can't remember where I saw it. I'm pretty sure it was on these forums somewhere though. I decided to keep it and ignore the fix, it's quite amusing playing on Ord Mantel charging into battle and seeing a tank go flying at lightspeed into a tree.

I've tried it, and let me tell you this. It's quite fun if you're in the Red Five and you're near the end and then Vader appears behind you which allows you to reenact the scene from the film.

It is indeed very fun. And more importantly, it finally gives you a reason why the Rebels attacked in the trench instead of from above. (To avoid getting shot down in two seconds by TIEs)

I recently watched HelloGreedo's review on the DS DLC, and I think he states some interesting points.

https://youtu.be/cL4S4RKvWV0

To be fair, this does actually look really interesting! However I'd still pass for one reason:
Flying with a keyboard and mouse is traumatic. I just... No. I've tried so many times, it's the only thing I can't learn. Why? Because with a mouse, a lot of movement is required and I can never get just the right sensitivity/DPI. The alternative is using just the keyboard... which again is bad because I spend more time trying to stop the crosshair from jolting too fast forward. Hell, I've even tried using the mouse to aim and keyboard to shoot and you can tell how that turned out.

If I found the flying mechanics satisfying, which I don't, I would buy this DLC. I love the look of it but I don't think the replayability is going to change from this. The Battlestation things sounds cool though.

Battlefront was an exception because it's Star Wars.

This is why I'm probably going to end up buying the next Star Wars Battlefront game they release too :XD:

Hopefully next time it'll have replayability equal or higher to Pacman. (Sorry but I've probably played more Pacman on Google at my school during lessons than I have playing EA's Battlefront).

Requests / Re: how to record video swbf ii.

the best of all it's fraps: no frames drop, high fps, excellent recording quality.

I would have to object to this and say Dxtory is the best. Fraps does actually drop your FPS at times and the recording quality isn't the best.

Plays.tv is another good capture system I've used. It's free, and you can trim your clips with the software too. (You can set it to record up to 5 mins, or set it to no limit if you want to record more than a 5-min montage vid). As far has resources go, I've found little to no lag in recording with it (compared to using XSplit/Bandicam trying to record games such as Gear Up and GMod on my laptop). I'd recommend giving it a try, though might take a few mins to setup the settings to your liking as its meant to do montage/highlight stuff like those CS:GO/LoL/CoD games.

I would also up this. Plays.TV is perfect for recording. I have it on most of the time since it can save gameplay clips so if something awesome happens, it's right there.

However that's not always the case, recently I've began to hate Play.TV. The recording quality is perfect but there's two really annoying reasons why:

  • It sometimes changes your preferences randomly, meaning when something good actually does happen, it never is recording. I literally hate them for this, because it always records the boring moments and is never on when something good happens.
  • Recently it has been causing crashes for games. Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 are clean of this but other games are not.

For an NVIDIA GPU, I'd recommend Shadow Play, it's the equivalent of Plays.TV, except it doesn't change your settings and crash your games like AMD *cough buy NVIDIA *cough don't make the same mistake as me *cough *cough

Quote from: Jean on September 25, 2016, 06:20:20 PM
Good to know. I knew about it because one of my friends on Steam had mentioned it, but I always wondered if it killed fps lol

As mentioned, it's similar to Plays.TV. It never causes FPS drops. Except if you're using AMD, some games may crash.

One thing I wish to ask, what's the trench run like? Has anyone tried it out yet?

Soldier. Enough said.

Even on Multiplayer. Before you object, you clearly haven't played against Pusher.

There were also a few separatist holdouts if i recall. At least in legends, a few ended up joining the rebellion.

Looks fun. I wont buy it, but not because i think it's bad.

I feel like we are descending into shameless bashing of a game for no reason, without considering its merits.

I have considered its merits, so far that's just graphics and sound. The rest is unworthy.

I just think there are better ways to get back at them that don't involve innocent bystanders.

What do you suggest?

Quote from: Commander Awesome on September 17, 2016, 03:01:33 PM
While that may be true, and they may just be saying that to prevent getting sued, I think they DO have a point.

Elaborate on this please? I'm curious to see what that point may be.

Hmm... it looks like they put effort into it to me. Should I get my eyes checked?
See above.

Well, just look at Battlefield 1. Look back at Battlefront. Then at Battlefield 1 again. Which one appeals better to you and why? They have so much more potential but they literally just gave up when it came to Battlefront. No, I still wouldn't like it more than the originals but I'd enjoy it a lot more if they paid the same amount of detail as they did to Battlefield 1.

We sure that's Yavin? I don't remember it having rings.

It was a joke, I was meaning to hint "why isn't that Yavin?" ;) I just don't see why they have the scene where Luke blows up the Death Star above a planet that isn't Yavin. Brings me back to the belief that they watched Star Wars once and then decided to make a whole AAA title on it.

I disagree. First off, it effected the players, too, including myself, I.E the same people EA ripped off in the first place. Do WE deserve that? Secondly, I feel the need to post this again:

The DDOS made me laugh to be honest. Yea, I couldn't play Battlefield 1 Beta, but it's pretty interesting to see such a large company get all and I mean all of their server get taken down by a small group of people. Just shows how weak their security are too.
Just for everyone's information, the real reason EA were DDOSed is because PoodleCorp wanted to play a game with KeemStar, however I actually believe it's because Keemstar wanted to regain his reputation so he hired PoodleCorp. I'd going into detail but that would go off-topic.

About the quote you attached, that only comes to tell us that they knew off the bat that Frontwire were already doing better than them. Actually, let me just point something out here:
Frontwire Studios: Small company of voluntary workers.
EA/DICE: Huge company of industry professionals.
EA were scared of the fact that Frontwire would've made a better game than them.
In that case, yes, maybe they were protecting their company. But that only proves they're not pulling their weight at the same time.

I again have to disagree. This pack has more content than the previous ones.

Yea, more content of the exact same stuff. I appreciate the content but I'm not buying it unless they actually tried. It'd be different if it was free.

It actually makes sense, as Chewie and Bossk are rivals.

Makes sense. But why on the Death Star?

Quote from: Commander Awesome on September 16, 2016, 07:10:38 PM
It's larger. It features space battles and more specifically a multi stage mode. It adds new hero vehicles. At least six new skins for the Imperials (though that part is free). It draws inspiration from the old Battlefronts and the Jedi Knight games.

The space battles look cool. Like I mentioned. But literally everything else is the same. As for the skins? I've already mentioned, it's just adding to the graphical side of things which is good anyway.

This. I haven't seen any thread where someone doesn't bash the game or compare it the original games.

Probably because it's kind of hard to force yourself to find good features in a broken game.

Oh and I love the new color they gave Yavin. Talk about "pimp my planet"
