Quote from: Anyder on October 05, 2016, 01:49:34 AMThe swbf2 US community is active on GR, not swbfspy, thats why we're trying to get them to play through SWBFSpy.
Idk when u play, but when im online I always see my clan mates playing fw, and while organising the following match, they play in public servers (or opentrains)

The most people I've seen on BFSPY is 4 people on the "Ragnarok" (I think it's called) server for the total timespan of about 30 minutes (at most), while Gameranger usually has at least 20 lobbies of 2-20 players on during the day. Hence why I want to play with it more. I've also never met a single one of my clan members via BFSPY without already joining the game with them. If you guys are trying to get people in North America to use BFSPY I don't think it's really working tbh. :/

@Anyder That's basically what I told him. His issue is solved now I think going off our last conversation on Steam

^^This. I've already said it's a solved issue now (thankfully).

So...

I just installed the Auto installer before installing any mods. So far everything seems to be in order, though I haven't tested anything yet. I created an account, and the server lists are popping up just fine. I'm getting kind of sick of arguing back and forth with our lovely moderator Anyder so I'm going to formally say this is "Solved without being solved" and leave it at that.

To everybody else though, or at least the majority of you, thanks for at least trying to give helpful suggestions. If for whatever reason compatibility with 1.3 or any other mods come up I'll create a new board and post the link to this one for reference, so we can actually go into files and figure out compatibility problems.

The swbfspy patch wont change any logo.

It didn't "change" anything, persay, but it added a "powered by gamespy" thing. Here:

https://youtu.be/GQBf71FJHwc?t=2m8s

It may have been Gameranger, but the added thing popped up after installing both.

I've just talked to Sue about ur issue and she sent me some chats u two had:

1) 1.3 upgrade doesnt change the game version. It only adds some features to the game. The numbers at the top (left or right, i do not remember) will not change. -Im writing this cause I saw in the chat that u said it did, but it doesnt-

She actually caught me on that, it was a mistake. I didn't have an excuse aside from that. I go over that in the PM's as well.

QuoteHow are u supposed to install a SWBF1 patch in ur SWBF2 game ? Obviously ur game doesnt work anymore. Im not even sure u were able to run that file.

The BF2 patch is all I have installed, and even changed my Multiplayer bottom hand corner to the "Powered by Gamespy" logo? upon installing into my gamedata folder and booting up the game.

Quote

3rd from the top starting under "screenshots" is exactly what I had before renaming the file and taking out the spaces.

Apparently I sent the wrong link? The BF2 exe is the only one I ha(d)ve downloaded. Proof for you.

If you need me to screencap my recycle bin next...

Chat holds out though. She cut a lot of it out. Tell her to send you the full thing. If not I'll screencap on my phone and create another imgur album.

Helping comes with experience, and none of us has ever had that problem before, so we obviously do not know how to fix it.

Alllllll of your posts could've been avoided if you said this. Would've saved me a lot of reply time. ;)

QuoteI'm telling u to get ur exe patch cause u just came here, blamed the patch for no reason, and told us to fix it. That is not asking for help. Also, I never said I was helping, I just told u that u weren't asking for help, but to get ur problem solved.

I blamed the patch because it's what messed up my game. It was working 100% before I put the exe into my gamedata folder. I moved absolutely nothing except the BFspy into my gamedata while in the process of doing so. If there was "no reason" for it I wouldn't have posted 2 threads on 2 different websites in the middle of the night after being awake for 20 hours asking how to revert the changes the exe made to my game.

QuotePlease sweetheart, it's not like I'm gonna talk u using proper grammar. This is not the Proficiency exam, I already did that years ago. This is a forum, to discuss stuff about SWBF.

Yet another reason not to take you seriously then. If you're going to speak, act, and treat a new member to your community like a 10 year old instead of a forum moderator that's your own choice. All that makes me do is not take you seriously.

QuoteWell, its quite weird cause out of all the 5000 downloads the file has had, ure the exception who got the game destroyed.

Well I'm honoured to be your first! :cheer:

My game is in spanish and just by using the english exe the game is in english, but i have never had a crash because of that.

Quote from: oldsnake on September 23, 2016, 02:43:03 AM
in the screen shot http://prnt.sc/ckvbxw
could the os language be the problem?
maybe that exe is english only? http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=1384

(Not my screenshot, it's my friends. But my gamedata folder pretty much looked EXACTLY like that in English)

U are not able to see us helping cause u came here with that "You MUST fix my game attitude" and that is so not happening.
Read:
The exe is not able to revert a mod. The exe has no such power.

No, I'm not able to see you helping because you're not. For example:

QuoteIm not sure on what 1.3 u have, but I have the 1.3 upgrade and im able to run it with my patch.
QuoteMy clan in swbf2 has been using the swbf2 mappack for 4 years and has NEVER had a problem with gameshare or swbfspy.
QuotePersonally I recommend u that if ure not "new" to this stuff, feel free to hexedit ur exe.

All of the above are ramblings and personal accounts. You're a moderator right? Telling somebody to "feel free to hexedit ur exe" isn't "help". :) It's not up to you to decide if you're "helping" or not. It's up to the person you're giving your..."help" to to decide if your words and advice are worth anything.

Everyone else has a least tried to understand the problem and give tips and pointers, dispite stating I've tried/confirmed they won't work, what the problem is, etc, but all you've done is tell me to "figure it out" with broken grammar.

QuoteThe exe CANT delete or remove files. What the exe does is load the files from the GameData folder and the AddOn and connect to a general server (SWBFSpy) to display servers in the browser.
Just by changing the server, the file cant destroy ur game. U should know what u are going to do before u do it, and not blame someone else for a mistake u could have done.

See? Half of that was actually almost on the choo choo train to "Help Ville". But you had to just end it with that last part.

The exe file can't remove files. Correct! But the exe can, did, and has interfered with the multiplayer setting as a whole, and somehow messed with the singleplayer gamemodes as well. Permanently. To the point the only gamemodes that work are Vanilla maps for Galactic Civil War on Gameranger. And I did know what I was doing. I read a guide, copypasted the exe into my gamedata folder, and it "broke the game." There were no "mistakes" involved. I quite literally copy and pasted a thing into a folder. That's all I did, as I've said before. Pretty hard to mess that up, so naturally you'd assume it's some form of a compatibility issue. Which I'm almost certain it was at this point.

It sounds like a problem with your 1.3  mod.  You can try to get help from the creators of that mod.

And you never told us exactly what you did.  Give us a link to the patch that you used.  Tell us what you renamed. The more specifics the better.  A video of what you did can go a long way.  Put in a link to the 1.3 mod and other maps that you say don't work.

If it's a problem with my 1.3 patch it's because the BFspy.exe isn't compatible with it. Yet another reason why I should contact the mods here opposed to the 1.3 creators. The version 1.3 has been out for ages. I've run countless mods and file changes with it not suffering a single issue. Ever. 1.3 didn't just "stop working" because it didn't feel like getting up for work. It wasn't purely the 1.3 addon and relatable mods that were affected by this. It was the vanilla base game as well.

QuoteInstallation Instructions: Once downloaded, locate your GameData folder (directories for both Disc and Steam versions are provided below) and rename the downloaded executable to BattlefrontII SWBFSpy, so you can remember which executable to use for all your online purposes. Once that's done, right click on the downloaded executable and click copy. Open up that GameData folder we discussed earlier and right click on any open space and click paste. You should have successfully installed SWBFSpy by SWBFGamers.
 • Booted the game up, crashes. Booted it up again, worked. Went to "multiplayer" and tried to create an account. Got an error (I'd check back to see the specifics of what it said, but in short I think it was pretty much telling me "account creation is disabled")
 • Looked up videos of how to create an account, and why I couldn't. Read that account creation no longer exists.
 • Went back to Battlefront, tried to "create" a KOTOR modded lobby. Nothing. Went to instant action, same KOTOR mod, on Coruscant. Game crashed.
 • Boot up the game again. Try about 10 different mods and maps. Each time the game crashes. Try Vanilla map with Galactic Civil War. Works. Try with Clone Wars. Crashes.
 • Go into files. Uninstall "The Clone Wars Era Mod" (http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-wars-clone-wars-era-mod/images/dagobah#imagebox) fully (done it 3 times already before anyone says "you probably did it wrong". You need to uninstall it to get your Clone Wars back to vanilla, as well as playing with some clonewars mods). Remove the BFspy.exe and put it back into my Gamedata. Boot up Battlefront again. Go to Coruscant, Clone Wars Era (now 100% vanilla) still crashes
 • Contact my friend. Ask him if he knows what's going on. He doesn't. Being helpful, and a good friend, he screencaps his gamedata folder for me and tells me to rename my BFspy properly and see if that fixes it
 • Renamed to "BattlefrontIISWBFSpy" (Like this: http://prnt.sc/ckvbxw)
 • Still doesn't work. Install Gameranger. Works only with Galactic Civil War era but works.
 • Try one last time to get my game to work again without uninstalling anything aside from TCW era re-do mod. Remove and try to put the exe back in my gamedata for the 2nd and last time. Still doesn't make my game work. BFspy still doesn't work either. Gameranger is still fine.
 • Get fed up and worried and posted these.
 • 1 day later I uninstall and am preparing to give it a second shot.

QuoteSome people just don't understand computers well enough to be able to run mods or install patches.

I've built 2 PC's, including my current one, a few laptops, and I understand software and mods preeeeeeeeeetty well. BF2 isn't the only game I mod. I've modded HL2, KOTOR, Hearts of Iron, Portal, BF2, etc, recently within the 2 weeks just off the top of my head.

QuoteThere is only so much we can do with very little information. And, keep in mind that SWBFspy is not a product that you pay for--it is a patch made and administered by gamers like you.  All we get from helping you is another player and in this case, one that tends to get frustrated easily.

I do get frustrated easily when people, especially moderators, tell me "lol no our patch is the best", call that "help", and tell me to just not use their own file and program if it doesn't work. It makes me feel like a kid who raises their hand in class and asks a question, only to have their teacher laugh at you and tell you to shutup. Otherwise I'm usually extremely chill.

I tried to help you but you just ignored my entire post. You aren't that willing apparently

I ignored your post because:

QuoteMake sure you run the SWBFSpy executable and not the Steam browser play button because it only runs "battlefrontII" which wouldn't be SWBFSpy, it would be your original executable. To uninstall the conversion patch just uninstall your game then delete your GameData folder to erase all the remaining mods which usually don't get uninstalled. There's probably a better way but I haven't used that mod in so long I forget if it even has an auto uninstaller or anything

-Isn't helpful at all. I don't run BF2 via the steam "play button". I don't think anybody uses steam play buttons. And I know all about mod uninstall and how to do it. I'm not brand new to SWBF2, I'm brand new to the BF2 online community. I'm not asking "how do I reinstall an addon?" I was asking "how do I fix what this exe did to my conversion patch, addons, and vanilla base game without uninstalling?" I was asking how do I reverse the effects the BFspy.exe had on my Battlefront game, not "how2uninstallmygame101" which I had to do anyways.

TL;DR: In short you told me to do what I already know and did.

TLDR:  it's not the patch but we will help you as much as we can

What else would it be then? I did NOTHING to my Battlefront II files aside from installing this exe.

QuoteSWBF2 1.3 is a player made mod for SWBF2 that was never supported by Gamespy or SWBFspy.

I know this, but there should be no reason for the exe file to revert my game back to 1.1 with my 1.3 addon installed.

QuoteYou have some problems with using the correct names of the EXE files.  If you really called them these names on your computer, you will have problems.

No, I didn't name the exe file that. I renamed it correctly afterwords according to my friend who has BFspy actually working.

QuoteIf you want to play on-line without gameranger, use SWBFspy which is the 1.1 version of the game.  Be sure to search all regions to find all of the servers.  Hundreds of players have done this and have not had any problems and there is no problem with our patched exe file.

Like I keep saying, it is most definitely something the exe file did to my game, as I literally did nothing aside from installing the exe in my gamedata folder. Saying "our patch is COMPLETELY flawless!!" while I had it break my game to the point of uninstall means that yes, the exe can mess up your game in some form.

QuoteIf you want to get back to 1.3 just reinstall the 1.3 mod.  Note, however, that Windows has a "virtual store" that will sometimes cache a copy of an exe file.  You may want to clear out the virtual store if you continue to have problems.  This is a windows "feature" and nothing to do with SWBFspy.  Google "windows virtual store" to learn more.

1.3 was already installed. I didn't uninstall it in the first place. Literally all I did was put the exe folder into my gamedata.

QuoteIn order to help you more, we need to know exactly how you installed the patch.

Downloaded it, opened it, right clicked, copy, opened my gamedata, paste, broken game.

Quote from: Led on September 22, 2016, 05:03:21 PM
You can still make a "gamespy" account.  But it is not necessary.

Anyder just said account creation is disabled though...

QuoteAnd you are probably better off sticking with Gameranger.  We can only do so much to help, and you must be willing to listen and learn.

I am 785658538675489645768457.76% willing to "listen and learn". I'm asking for help. The problem is everybody seems to think that the exe file is flawless and obviously not the problem. Nobody has given an ounce of help aside from explaining account creation with gamespy (even that I'm getting mixed answers with) and what the auto installer does.

I'm basically being called stupid by you guys and getting told to "find help elsewhere". Nobody has even said anything regarding helpfulness. I'm willing to listen if everyone else is willing to listen. Simplying labeling off the exe as "completely unbroken" and telling me it could never do anything wrong isn't help. Same goes for telling me to "meh just use gameranger if it doesn't work". That's not what "support" or "help" is.

After hours of no responses and more problems popping up, I've decided to uninstall the game, reinstall, and try using the SWBFSPY auto installer this time around.

Edit by Anyder: Do not insult here or disrespect, please.

Anyways

Quote from: Anyder on September 22, 2016, 02:21:47 AM
First of all, it's SWBFSpy, not swBF2spy. It's not like we have split the masterserver name for each game.

I don't care about specifics. You know what I'm talking about. The addition of a "2" isn't killing anybody, but if it's making you cringe that much I'll keep note of that.

QuoteInstalling SWBFSpy is not like installing a program. SWBFSpy is just a patch for the exe so that u connect to a new masterserver. That's it. It does not mofidy anything.

Well the .exe, which I did place into my gamedata folder, ended up being the reason my game got turned into a potato. It not only messed up my Conversion Patch 1.3 addon, as well as every single mod I had installed, but it also messed up my vanilla Clone Wars era factions as well.

QuoteIf u read what we posted in the downloads thread it explains what each file patches (They are all 1.1 patches), so make sure u downloaded the correct file.

"If anybody could make my life 10x easier and explain how to un-do the conversion patch change from 1.3 to 1.1, how to login and play on BFspy, how to create servers with mods and make them playable again, etc, I'd really appreciate it. I know it might seem "lazy" but the last thing I want to do is spend 3h digging through discussion boards and pm'ing people to ask what's going wrong."

QuoteIm not really sure I understand what u mean here: "Though from what I've read apparently SWBF2SPY doesn't work anymore period".

Example: https://youtu.be/GQBf71FJHwc?t=2m5s

QuoteIt has nothing to do with SWBFSpy that u can't do all that because I can, and UEF ACE can do as well.

If I was sure the BFspy.exe wasn't the cause to my problems I wouldn't have posted 2 threads on 2 different websites asking if anybody even remotely knew what was going on for me, and why my mods and game in general weren't working anylonger.

Entire game was working fine 24 hours ago before the download.

QuoteI havent had a single crash on SWBF2 ever, not even after patching my exe to GameShare or SWBFSpy, so once again, i do not think the exe is causing the crash.

Ok?...But the thing is that I'm talking about a problem I'm having. Not asking about if you've ever had one. Before installing BFspy I have never had to deal with crash issues, or broken game issues, in my entire history of playing SWBF2. If I knew how to fix it and didn't think it was the BFspy.exe I wouldn't have posted these.

QuoteCreating accounts was removed, what is great so that people wouldnt abuse it by creating x100 just for a nickname change.

Finally, something useful. So I can no longer create an account? Assuming the auto-installer works this time around, would I just skip this part, or?

Greetings!!

I finally went about installing SWBF2SPY and Gameranger today and boy-oh-boy am I bonking my head on a whole lot of problems. I already posted this on IGF, my "clan" I recently joined for BF2, but for convenience and seeing as this is where you download SWBF2SPY I figured I should post here as well.

For reader-ease I'll jot down all the problems I'm facing in bullet points:

 • Installing SWBF2SPY and copy-pasting it in my gamedata folder has permanently downgraded my Battlefront 2 to Conversion Patch 1.1. Nothing changes no matter what I do. Removing the BFspy.exe from my gamedata folder does nothing to fix the problem. Almost all of my mods are unplayable now.
 • I can't log into SWBF2SPY no matter what I do. Though from what I've read apparently SWBF2SPY doesn't work anymore period. That confuses me though because from what I've read/seen in install video guides that's what most IGF members play on.
 • I can't play/join servers/host servers with mods. Most likely due to the 1.1 downgrade.
 • Battlefront 2 crashes 10x more frequently just in general.

Other than these issues Gameranger seems to work fine with vanilla maps. I can't log into BFspy though, or even create an account for that matter.

If anybody could make my life 10x easier and explain how to un-do the conversion patch change from 1.3 to 1.1, how to login and play on BFspy, how to create servers with mods and make them playable again, etc, I'd really appreciate it. I know it might seem "lazy" but the last thing I want to do is spend 3h digging through discussion boards and pm'ing people to ask what's going wrong.
