Title: Xfire Ruined
Post by: Phobos on February 05, 2013, 10:39:20 PM
Well I am very dissapointed that xfire has been ruined and this new ugly layout imposed on everyone without a choice. The worst part is that a lot of functionality has been lost as a result. There is no longer a recent forum posts column on the side, you can no longer edit news posts, clan logos don't appear anymore, and all kinds of problems. Who misses the old xfire? I am in a few communities which used the xfire forums and now we have to find alternatives because this is a complete atrocity and un-manageable.

I do not know much, about xfire... But I know for sure, video links from it, now, stop works on my PC, by explorer and firefox the same.

CLASSIC!!!

I have no functionality on their new site as well.
Well.. the advertisements and pretty borders work... but no screenshots, videos, or anything else. So it's pretty much just an address with nothing but ads at the moment.

I didn't find any contact links to talk with them about it, but I didn't look very hard.(-edit found it.. big blue button on the right hand side.)

Can't even access my profile. (before anyone asks, yes I signed in.. ::) )(-edit this was my fault... doh.)

I assumed they moved to some HTML5 thing. But that may not be it, since Sereja reports that firefox isn't seeing it.

-edit
yeah.. just dug around some more... no.
They offer no way to delete my account... yay.
With no method for accesing my account, I can't set it to private... yay.(-edit not relevant any more.)
I got one video to work. Clicking the video option on their navigation menu offers you one video.... yay

Did they change paradigms or what?  It's a groovy little chat client, but without being able to use thier page services, it's no better than any of a hundred instant messengers.

Still can't find any support or contact info.

I've found for a while now that the fact clan logos don't show up now kind of sucks, and the fact their beta site is ugly anyways. The site doesn't even work on my iPad! I've been using the classic site to view alot of things. Though I know some of Xfire's community forums have been discussing issues with the new 2.0 client beta, as well as the website. I'm sure if you poked around on the forums part of the site, you would be bound to find something related.

That doesn't work for me. It goes straight to the new site, even after dumping my cache.

And I found the feedback/support link.. (doh...)
It's a GIANT blue button on the right side.
I sent a message to them. (I believe it was friendly, I usually don't go off on folks till the 3'rd or so email.)

Lol Tirp.

Yeah, I definitely like classic xfire alot better... Xfire's changes are just as bad as facebook's
I do not like the new setup, hard to do anything anymore.

I agree with everything Phobos said. Their idea of improvements seems to be taking out a load of features. I also have problems logging into the site now and clicking on a video in the X-fire app just takes you to random videos on the site. I can sometimes visit the classic site using the recent activity links but this also seems random.

I opened a support ticket and they got back to me really fast.
Like creepy stalker fast. (hehe)

I'm compiling a list of disfunctions and screenshots for them now.

Of course the only thing I can verify is the stuff that ie8 breaks.

Well, today I went to change my nickname for a community and it wouldn't even let me log on to their website. When I tried on my PC, I would try to log in and there would be a timeout error. When I tried to log in on my phone, it would send me a "change password" e-mail. When I clicked on the link it e-mailed me it said something along the lines of "this page does not exist"...

Long story short, the new Xfire is ruined. I can't even edit or log on to my own profile...

Odd, I have perfect access to Xfire, though I must admit something must be done with the fact you cannot change your name on a group on the beta site. I'm going to see if classic still works for me, but for the most part, someone start spamming the community forums about all the errors of their site.

Enjin's client is a moneyeater, you need to pay for the client services. Plus, their client doesn't support SWBF, only SWBF2.

GSC though is something I've seen before from searching, but I don't know how good the client would be, someone should beta test it and see if it works with SWBF. :P

swbf is on the supported games list on the wiki

If it's enjin, the actual client list of compatible games is only SWBF2, not SWBF1.

For GSC, again I didn't look into it, so I wouldn't know.

I can't even login on the new Xfire. Thankfully my Xfire program remembers the password (I still know it) so I can still use the program, just not the website.

23-0, at least there is something we can all agree on. @Roxas, when you click on the "profile" button on the chat window of someone it takes you to the site and logs you in, atleast it does for me.
Title: Re: Xfire Ruined

More bugs:
Won't let me leave community. Says I left community but then I refresh page and it puts me back in the community.
Won't let me edit or delete news posts. When I try deleting posts it takes me to "forgot your password" page.
Won't let me access profile settings on website.

And now the xfire client just freezes up every time I try to log in. Reinstalled it three times and it does this every time. Other people have complained about xfire recently crashing and lagging their SWBF more frequently now while running.

Bye bye xfire, once a useful app, now uninstalled nonfunctional junkware.

Does anyone know of another IM app that will work in game?

I cannot remember what version I have for xfire, but I blocked the updater, so nothing changes without me knowing and accepting it, if someone had the xfire setup for a specific version, would that help everyone who used it? (I don't think I have it, but someone else might)

I tried an old xfire version from 2010 and same problems. Freezes on log in.

good find Helios. It says that it supports all games and that it's chat can even support chat from other clients (such as xfire) so not even everyone would have to change over to it. I'm downloading the client and trying it out now. The funny part is that it says it was made by people who used xfire, but wanted something better lol

EDIT: I was unable to get the client installed correctly or get my xfire friends ported to it. It seems like it is still in development or something, but i wasn't impressed. Maybe someone else could try it, as it is not as relevant to me since my xfire client still works.

I still don't like the changes but as long as the main app is fine and the website is at least usable I'll stick with X-fire (they say they are working on getting old features back).
If we all move to different software it will become even harder to find other people who play. I think it's a shame when people we play with often just disapear like after Gamespy shut down and I don't want to be one of them by only seeing people by coincedence when in game. :(

Hey guys, I found this Xfire forum topic, it should explain why some things don't work, etc.

http://forums.xfire.com/showthread.php/267392-Classic-Xfire

In Xfire Ben's second post, he mentions that the clan pages aren't working currently, and that this past month was th elast month for Xfire's classic site, due to the fact of two sties being "bad" for the company. Read on if you want, figured this would shed some light on things.

I'm pretty sure what it comes down to is more potential for them to sell advertisements, plus the ability for them to tie into social media such as facebook.

I can appreciate the desire for them to monetize their system, but let's face it, that ship sailed about 5 years ago when Steam came out with a better model that included sales of games and download distribution.

As far as facebook goes, we have met Big Brother and he is us.   ;)

Apparently Ben is convinced xfire classic is bad for business. If only steam supported swbf1...

You can add Non-Steam games to your Steam library. This usually unless the game is incompatible enables the Steam overlay. The only thing you'll be missing is xFire's recording capabilities, but you can always use FRAPS for that. It probably bring better performance at the end of the day anyway.

Clicky (http://zhtw.xfire.com/profile/) for classic xFire. Er, mostly it's a lot more functional than that horrible updated one. I managed to post on it, that counts for something. You may also need to login on new xFire then go back to it.

Just thought it was somewhat worth sharing worth.

Sorry for the necro...

The xfire support folks got back to me with positive results just now.

The issues with videos not appearing and not being able to view screenshots in certain browsers is cleared up (on my end, at least.)

It isn't the classic xfire, and I have no news on the forums closing, but it's still a good site.

I'm impressed that they stayed on the ticket so long.  I went to them with an unpopular browser issue (IE) and they flat out fixed it.  Gamefront could learn a thing or two from them.

From their faq:
http://battleground.xfire.com/faq
QuoteWhat is Battleground?
Battleground is the ultimate competitive gaming platform. We provide high quality, free servers for you to play on. We track your stats and award you Battle Tokens for every kill (and penalize you for every death). At the end of the month you can use your Battle Tokens to enter sweepstakes for awesome gaming gear - the better you perform, the better your chances of winning.

It looks like they are just getting it set up and running. All I could see without logging in was Counter Strike: Source and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare on the Ranks page.
