Title: Membership Drive ideas
Post by: Led on May 30, 2012, 06:39:22 PM
Hi SWBFgamers,

Although I think most active SWBF players are members of this site, I think we can use a membership drive--or maybe a participation drive.

I propose that we think of something to promote participation--here is just an example--maybe we can have our mod map night, with a reward for the clan or group with the most participants (PLA excluded) being one month of NFO server hosted SWBF server.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I think we should also have small tourneys inside those servers for individuals such as boonta eve racing, pult-a-thon, etc.

More killing of sleep, their isn't enough of that happening here!

Serious:

I think a map pack would be a cool thing for the community to do.

I also agree with your idea of Awards Led.

EDIT:

How about a mapping contest to make the map pack? Anyone who wants can submit a map. Then we have a mod map night were we play through them all. After that the community could vote on which one they liked best.

That's a good idea and all but some of us ( or maybe only me ) are not allowed to play online. So just letting you guys know that would only be for people who are allowed or choose to play online.

I agree with SleepKiller, we should have mapping contests and then offline players can still participate in it and vote which is the best. You could vote based on the design/creativity, AI pathing, collision, balance, etc.  :)

btw maybe it would be a cool idea to make a member of the month or player of the month (who participated in the most games/or was the most active in the forums) or something like that...

This will be a lot of work. Let us know if me or Unit 33 can help with any of this.

If you wish to make contest, interesting, for non online players, you probably need make something, like "Oscar rewards". So, each modder can win in nominations, like "map of the year", or "effects of the year" etc. The result, of map rate can be visible, by simple vote, so, each modder, can easy figure out, if his map is realy successfull, even, if nobody left any comment. The contest, and rewards must be happens before or after New Year, so, the selebration will be more fun. Also, rewards, like stars, or some simbols, may be visible under member profile forever, like those "post count".

Funnily enough Led already told me he had tried to install an awards system to give out titles like. Modder Of the Month, Contributor Of the Month etc.

Thank's, Unit 33. If that realy possible, it cud be nice, if vote rate system will be loaded automaticaly in "released mod & maps" topic, and show rate nominations for vote's like this:
1. effects
2. gameplay
3. design (props & textures)
4. atmospheric style (sky, fog, rain, light)
5. sides (skin, weapon)
6. movie
7. sound

Probably each one, must be rated from 0 to 10.

I really like Sereja's ideas. That would make things a lot more fun! Maybe JK can help you out with that, Led.

Yeah we had an awards system on CM for a while but it didn't take off, since we had nothing to actually reward, so JK's a good guy to ask.

And why not a little tourney ?
Just make one, invite ppl who is logged in this site, tell them to make ''squads'' or groups (Max. 3)
And the group who owns will get something cool. ( I have no idea on what, but this way ppl can participate )
Ex. :
When I was in 212, we had some events as Sir Blblabla event . The winner recived a medal.

Oh why look we are having one right now, http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=4409.msg44815#new (http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=4409.msg44815#new) It appears to have gone decently well. Maybe another one after it is in order.

The problem with a tournament like this one though, is that it drags on for really long. If we can find a good date to play one tournament, we can do what we used to at MPC/MXG. Find a couple of mod maps, get as many people to join as we can, and have a normal match. After everything's said and done, add up who's gotten the most points (1 for a Kill, -.5 for every Death, 1.5 for a CP) and they're the winner.

An example of this type of Tournament is this: http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=2053.0

Well, I think that the idea of the event could be nice :
Play a map (mod map) which has been taken in SWBFgamers, ask all members to join and the person who gets the highest kills, win.
Or as 212 Public Battlefield :
-Someone host a server ( I think Buckler xD ).
-We leave it 1 month up (With mod maps -for this, we need to make a pack of maps, as for the GGCW)
-The person who is the number one in the gametracker Top 10 List, win.

Yeah but not all of us make use of GameTracker, such as myself.

I prefer the old style MPC tourney that Droideka suggested , just a couple of games and the winner is judged by kills/deaths/captures.

I can't do that by myself--the way it works is that you have to have access to the server or the onwer has to give me the code.  Also, the port numbers of the servers must stay the same.

We can do both types.  The last point for kill tournament did not have much participation, so when SK wanted to organize a bracket, I said "go for it!".  And I think it has worked out pretty well.  :)

You don't need to do anything for Gametracker other than play on a server that tracks the stats.  Unfortunately, I have not found a way to make this work for DC servers, just for PC servers.  Also, I don't think that gametracker is perfect at keeping the scores, either :)

(Note unit33 that this is different than gamespy.)

No verik, we can do what ever we want.  We are merely giving suggestions.

The problem is though, that unless I can figure out how to install a working awards mod we can't give any awards next to your name.  That said, I would be happy to make a sticky post with everyones names and contributions in it.   I keep needing to ask JK for help, but have not wanted to bother him too much... :)

Ah, 5 posts in a row, I am such an offender :P

Anyway, there have been some good discussions, and I look forward to trying to implement most of these ideas.

Thanks :)

From what I know about GT's scoring system is you get points for raw kills, 2 for human and 1 for AI.   I think it also deducts a point if you kill your self or fall into a pit or something.
