Title: SWBFgamers Openspy Night?
Post by: Snake on May 06, 2013, 06:24:59 PM
I think it's time for a SWBFgamers night. The significance of this is it would be the first one on OpenSpy!! So we need to get as many people there as possible, to kick off our SWBF fix. What do you guys think? If Led doesn't want to host, I will, but my internet will probably lag a lot.. :P

I would like to request some maps for this:

-My Hyperion: Ancient Excavations map
-Tatooine: Boonta Eve
-Sereja's Nar Shadaa: Vertical City

Any requests, suggestions, comments, rage, spam, or bursts of happiness? Feel free to post.

I think this would be interesting to try out, though we may not get a lot of people since the Openspy stuff is still new and somewhat buggy for the moment.

As for maps, I was thinking SK's Zombie City to replace Sereja's Nar Shaddaa. Me and Zam tried playing that map on Tunngle before, and it was extremely laggy. Another one we could add could be GGW Cantina v1.2? :D (I have the map if anyone wants me to upload it, or is it 1.3 you guys are missing?)

Sounds good.  Please note that Sereja's maps tend not to work in MP.

Has anyone tried mod maps in Openspy? (just checking) I dont see why they would not work but I have said that about a few things before :/
Any map that is rated highly but not a well known map.

Alright, so scratch Sereja's map. And no GGW Canina, it takes forever to end. I'll set up a poll on maps. How many maps should be selected?

Lol, I can't even hardly play Nar Shadda in Single Player xD...

As long as it's not tonight or sunday (any sunday, that is), I'm good to go.

Alright, poll has been added. Post any other maps you would like added to the poll and I will post them up there. Choose your top 8 maps and after a few days of voting we will see what the overall top 8 maps are and use those.

Sereja's maps work fine in multiplayer when you use stock sides. He was kind enough to include a mission.lvl with stock sides. Also, might I suggest making this a DC, like how Led's DC worked? The connection was solid and I still can't get openspy to work.

I find it a hassle to add/remove mod maps but I'll join if I can! I'm looking forward to this game night. Preferably, the game would not be this weekend.

Well, to be safe we won't to Sereja's maps this time. And I think it'd be better online so other random people can see that people still play.

We will probably upload a map pack so it won't be such a hassle. I'm quite used to putting mod maps in, since i have to do it hundreds of times per map I make. :P

I was going to originally, but it's just a tad to big for my liking...
I really only get on that map for racing (every like... 4th of July or something..), and Paint ball.
And even then, the paint ball arena Froggy made is WAY better.

Alright, I guess we'll go ahead and close the voting. Here are the top 8 (by rank) maps that will be used in the first SWBFGamers Openspy Mod Map Night:

1. Hyperion: Ancient Excavations
2. One In The Chamber Mode
3. Tatooine: Boonta Eve (Tied with Miranda)
4. Miranda Facility
5. Bespin: Zombie City
6. Jabba Goes Party Hall (Tied with Armchair Assault)
7. Armchair Assault
8. Froggy's Paintball Arena

This will be NEXT Saturday (May 18) time undecided. I guess since Led hosts, he will know what's the best time to host at.

Alright, so we have encountered a few problems. First, Jabba Goes Party Hall is an edit of tat3.lvl not just a replacement of the map. So, I imagine that it would be hard for some people to figure out how to get it to work, therefore, I removed it. There were 3 tied for the next map in the pack so I chose Naboo: Prototype. Also, Boonta Eve does not extract properly with winrar. So you have to get winzip which is free here: WinZip (http://www.winzip.com/)

-- The map pack is compiling as I am typing this so it will be uploaded soon.

You might try and extract it with winzip and re-zip it with winrar, that way it'll work with both, no matter what people use.

NOTE:

When you get the map pack, there are map folders inside of other folders, etc.

Extract each map and be sure to get the right folder put into Addon.

Remember, you can only have about 25 maps there, and be sure to leave tat3 in Addon at all times (Jabbas Palace).

I don't know if this will work for anyone else, but here's how I can join the server:

1. Try to join atleast 4 times
2. Do ping trick (make a server, kill some ai, quit, then try to join)
2. if it doesnt by the time it counts to 6 work try again and then it should work.

Well, despite the server issues, the OpenSpy game was fairly fun.

I enjoyed crashing into things on Boonta Eve with Tirpider and Snake.  :P

I highly reccommend having the next mod map night on Tunngle. It took me about a dozen tries to make it on the server, and my game froze 3 times when it was trying to load the server.

-edit:  Oh, and all of our games crashed after Boonta Eve.

hehe

I love how  can try to get back in now while it's still showing my 30 kills and 31 deaths...

Lots of ways to die in that map.

Gonna try to get the server un-stuck? or are our games just hosed?

Just took this after your post:
After initially crashing to the desktop after the map change, I've restarted SWBF several times, even joined and left other servers.

You can see it was a high powered competition :P
I enjoyed it.  Spent a lot of time flying into pits and walls of doom.

Tunngle has less 'bugs' than openspy, but I hate using tunngle. My router disconnects from tunngle server randomly midgame for no reason. Openspy freezes 75% or more of the time in server lobby. I think the community is divided between using these 2 options right now. gameranger is the worst of the 3, i can't evne use custom resolution launcher with it, theres no 'actual' server lobby that displays all servers (you have to join it thru the app), and it forces a horribel choppy framerate like someone else mentioned earlier.

I think FC is leaning more towards openspy and PLA towards tunngle right now, but hopefully another option is discovered which has less bugs and is more compatible for most players to use. We will keep looking for other options.

@tirpider
Could you still join the server once you were able to see the server and player stats? Thats cool u can see them, are you using the exe patch or just a hosts update?

I could see it to at first, but every time I tried to join it would stay busy or freeze up my game.

Eventually, when it did let me join the server, the player stats weren't there. Maybe that has something to do with why it freezes or fails to load?

I had previously run SK's batch file and was able to join servers after that. I have taken no steps to un-do it's effects.

Today, I dl'ed the SWBF1 Online Patch Kit and used the patched client to(successfully) join the ModNight server.

Before that I had joined the one above it with my unpatched exe. (After, I can still join and leave that server at will, regardless of what exe I use.)

Currently, I cannot joint the ModNight server that says Snake, Shazam!, and myself are still on.

Refreshing does nothing, of course.

Title: Re: SWBFgamers Openspy Night?
Post by: Phobos on May 18, 2013, 05:59:38 PM
I have found that server names mismatch sometimes once you rehost, once you change something in the batch or INI. Even somethign small like a password can get the names "mixed up". So for example, the server might say FC Airshots, but when you join its set up using FC 1v1 files. the player will see FC airshots in the game lobby too, but in the NFO server manager it shows FC 1v1 (the right name for server).

even after you close a server, you have to wait about 15-30 minutes before rehosting, or it will stay like that. The server stays up in the lobby even after it is taken down for a while. Best solution if you want to update a server (thru openspy) but are hosting more than 1, is to close all sessions ur hosting through one machine / IP, and wait about half an hour before rehosting them. Once you can see your servers are no longer listed in openspy server lobby then its safe to rehost. Just restarting the session instantly doesn't seem to work.

Oh well, it was really fun while it lasted. For those of you that couldnt make it, you missed out on some fun! Apparently there were some super AI that were not ready for us to change the map by capturing all the Boonta Eve CP's. We went in there with our paintball guns expecting to kill them easily, turns out we all got killed. Repeatedly. So then we tried bringing in the light artillary (speeders and skiffs) which actually did worse than the frontal assault on foot. So then we had to get big. The bombing campaign had begun. I continuously bombed their only CP while tirp and Shazam continued the assault on foot. They actually managed to capture another cp twice.. I ended up with 111 kills through the bombing raids, and we killed them until they ran out of reinforcements. We never captured that CP... Kudos to you, super soldier AI...

My download is just a package which contains wolf and sk's patch, along with patched executable. I have found that running the host patcher multiple times makes the HOSTS file increase. So i deleted mine and posted a new one once openspy hung on 0%.

if you keep running the batch file for HOSTS it will keep adding to the file each time.  Running it once is sufficient.
