Title: Connection issue
Post by: zealot on April 23, 2017, 05:41:36 PM
I have the english version of the game and im using the english swbfspy patch, when i go to the servers i can see it all and stuff, i can join a server and the usual loading screen happens with the orbit of the planet, but then when it goes into the loading screen with the map ingame picture the loading eventually says CONNECTION TO HOST FAILED or whatever it says i dont know why its doing this?

Are you using Ubuntu and wine to run it?  If so, that can be an issue, esp. for SWBF2.

SWBF1 seems to work.  I'm not sure about SWBF2.  You may want to talk to LinuxUserAwesome and see if there are any special settings he uses (if he plays both).  As far as I have been able to tell, it is something during the negotiation of starting the game that gets slowed down and it drops the connection.

hi zealot you can remove the loading screens for the game to make it load faster in linux. please note that not all maps will work mostly mod maps not working and some stock maps. keep only the Load.lvl for swbf1. keep only the LOAD.LVL for swbf2. move or place the other files to a new folder for backup or just delete them. below is screen shots of the folders before and after.

Hi I was able to get swbf1 to work online.

the resion you cant join is that swbf1 (or 2)
loads too slow.

try a different wine versions. some versions
work better than other. I think intel prossesers
are better for swbf than amd on linux. but in
My opinion I like amd prossesers better.

tell me if that works.

and removing the load files will decreace
load time. and if it take over a minute or 2
to load it it might not be able to join. on
my Linux it takes about 1 min to load
some mod maps still won't work tho
I was able to get swbf1 to be able to
join any map on my intel pc running
Zorin 12.1 Linux distro but unfortanitaly
its hard to get its network card to work
so i don't use it much.

hopes this helps   :D

The wine version I am Using is 1.9.11
but that is on ChaletOS Linux distro
I use that just for playing SWBF1 I
never bothered to put that version of
wine on my ZorinOS 12.1 witch I use
for everything else on that is wine
1.6.2 (don't use its worthless) so
all in all try wine 1.9.11 I will
be trying more wine versions
in the meantime. it would be
faster if my internet was  :P
I'l let you know if there are any
better versions of wine for SWBF
(wine 1.9.11 is still too slow to join
SWBF2 servers  :'().

and I don't kmow if it makes a
difference but I did not use the
swbfspy patch I edited the host
file like in this tuturial
here http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=11331.msg110516#msg110516

Edit: you might also try wine 1.5.3 i hear that works well for SWBF1
but I don't know I haven't tryed it yet

and chat a little about it. if it works
of course.  :D heres some stuff on it

i reinstalled battlefront to see if that was any problems so if any issues from there are gone and 1.5.3 is really laggy the one you told me to use is better, but i still cant join anyones games but unlike last time, i can actually host my own game, dont know if anyone can join though.

I can't join it it says your ping is 9999.
maybe its because my inernet speed
is too slow.

9999 ping probably isnt your internet, although maybe try a speedtest.net

you may have to port forward (idk if that causes 9999 ping maybe)

Don't forget to port forward if you are hosting at home.
