"How in any way can you lose your respect for him? Why is his unwillingness to release something that he has dedicated a huge amount of time to such a big deal? If you "can and will create your Sith lords", then tell me why you didn't do that in the first place instead of asking for someone to do it for you?" - JediKiller

Here is my response: Not releasing source to a map one has made, that's understandable. But restricting the growth of SWBF by hoarding popular side units such as Revan, Nihilus, and all the others, that is 2 things IMO: 1) Foolish 2) Selfish.
Assets should be shared, maps that doesn't matter because they are merely a combination of assets.
Any asset I require for my maps I will ask for first from anyone who has created it. If they refuse to share it with the modding community, I will attempt to make it myself and then make it available to the community. This is because I place the importance of the community's ability to expand before my own egotistic needs for recognition.

Now, regardless of whether you consider the greater good of the SWBF modding community to be more important than the recognition of authors, or vice versa, I will always be for the former.

"Phobos you're lucky my mod powers are limited." - Go away with your empty threats. What would you do?
"JK is correct. If someone doesn't want to release their assets, don't whine about it." - See my response to JK and why he isn't "correct". Also allow people to respond instead of trying to force-win an argument which is logically flawed.

I was not allowed to respond before the topic was locked so I have created my response as a new thread. This is to clarify my position regarding the unreasonable accusations aforementioned. The only thing that has gotten out of hand is the desperate need for recognition by the authors which restricts modding community growth and the unjustified support for it from people like ag. Not trying to insult you AG, but you should definitely give this more thought than you have so far.

- To Mav: Perhaps leaving out credit would be somewhat irresponsible, but it would be even more irresponsible to limit the growth of the modding community just because a few people have to have their named tagged on every asset ever made. That's how I see it and I'm sure most modders would agree that the more assets available the greater the possibilities for modding this game.

"This topic's getting out of hand.
Final Solution: The assets are not released to the public, however the munged sides do exist.

As always, thanks for helping out Mav.

Your solution is not the final solution. I will be creating the Sith Lords on my own and publicly releasing them since the author(s) was/is unwilling to share them. The solution is that eventually these assets will be released whether or not they have to be made again. I would rather help the community grow than boast about how I made something and nobody else can. I can only thank Mav for the heroes sides at this point.

:o not sure what to say. Umm...Can't wait for the models to come out, phobos!  :tu: I think it is kinda dumb to keep cool assets to yourself, but Maveritchell might have a reason. If it's he doesnt want people to take credit for it....Who cares if someone takes credit? No one really cares who made it they just want some fun assets to use. But either way I'm sure there was a point Phobos Developer.

Regardless of the motivations behind restricting the release of certain assets, the effects are that Mav is willingly restricting the growth of the SWBF modding community for the sake of "recognition". What's worse is that the moderators here support it without question. The assets I require for one of my projects I now have to make myself. This takes quite a bit more time and work than simply obtaining them from the creator(s). However, I am not one who lacks understanding as to the dynamics of cause and effect. I hope one day Mav, Ag, and Jk will understand that sharing is better than hoarding. Until then, I will attempt to create these myself and if I can, I will release them publicly. I care about the ability to expand the community more than being recognized but apparently some others don't. Oh well. I guess they have that right, but I also have the right to release/restrict my own creations. I will only release though, not restrict.

Making something, releasing the compile but not source is sort of like saying "Look at me I made something you can't, and what's even more cool is that I'm not going to share or help you make it because I want all the credit for it and my ideas as to how these assets can be implemented supersede everyone else's". That's what it sounds like to me.

You're making yourself sound lazy and unmotivated, seriously.

People like you are the reason I left SWBF modding, your ego is the size of Jupiter, and you're logic makes no sense at ALL.

The SWBF modding community cannot grow anyway really, this game is dead, all it's been doing for the past few years is shrink, so just quit your whining for once, the world can't hand you everything on a silver platter.

Ok Phobos allow me to explain what just happened.

Your original topic is asking if that model was available for SWBF1. The answer was that the original assets are not going to be released however the sides do exist. The topic went on about how you lost your respect for Mav. It was going off topic and was starting to get unnecessary people involved. My job is to make sure that doesn't happen.

Mav has every right to not release the assets for his mod. You can't just go up to Infinity Ward and ask them to give you their assets for Modern Warfare 2 and then criticize them for not doing so. You got the idea?

He's not boasting what he made or anything of the sort. I have no idea where you got that mindset.

Phobos it's nothing personal against you, I just would like for you to understand what I am saying.

Breakdown: Wow, you really need to think about increasing modding community vs. your own "recognition" wants, Breakdown. If that's what you consider logic, that is really sad. Just because you think it's dead doesn't mean that others are going to give up like you. It shrinks because people like you tend to think it is dying and therefore you never helped by releasing assets. That is really sad, you should really quit being so selfish and calling other modders "whinning" just because they are willing to create maps with a large variety of modifications. It's really pathetic you try to twist things and make it sound like it's my ego when actually it's yours and the people hoarding source code for the sake of your OWN ego breakdown, so don't try to use reverse logic because it really doesn't stand in an argument.

ag: You might have the idea that recognition is more important than the community growing but I don't. I hope you understand that. He is allowing the game to have less modding capabilities that's all.

Breakdown you really need to get the idea that a community means a COMMUNITY and not a COMPETITION.

Mav's been modding Battlefront long before you he isn't releasing his asset because of recognition or any of the BS you're talking about. If you really want to talk about this, message me on xfire. Mav's not making the game have less modding abilities and he contributed greatly to the SWBF modding community so don't really make this a problem. This topic has run its course.
