Ah Ennio Morricone, a good choice.
Here's my obvious choice, but it's still one of the more recognised classical compositions, which tells you something about it.

I played his Piano Quintet and it's a gorgeous piece, especially the last movement. Other then that:
His 24 preludes & Fugues, 3 Fantastic Dances, e minor piano trio, and String Quartets 7 & 8.
A moderator double posting? :o
also: Leos Janacek. search up his piano piece "1.x.1905".
edit
What double posting, kit? :P

Why you little moderator changing
:D
String Quar. 8 is haunting. I recommend symphony 5 too.
Oof, tough question but I'll ahve to side with Kit on this one: John Williams has composed some of the ebtter music this century, but I'll also add in Alexandre Desplat.
"Threnody for the victims of Hiroshima" and "Te Deum" by Penderecki are quite good.
Terry Riley: In C (best) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjR4QYsa9nE), Poppy Nogood and the Phantom Band
Steve Reich: Eight Lines (best) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Np9yApXD94), Music for 18 musicians (best) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_jwv2QMtAo), electric counterpoint, drumming
Philip Glass: Music in twelve parts (best) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2euBS6YzrK4)
This music flipped my world upside down 4 or so years ago when I discovered it, esp. Reich and Riley.

Ill add this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRPWZcWa5g8
I heard this at the Hollywood Bowl when I saw John Williams in concert and now I love the song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5H0sCdvZ14
I like John Williams' scores, especially Star Wars (duh) and Indiana Jones. I also like the scores to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies by Hans Zimmer (and Klaus Badelt). Another of my favorite scores is the LEGO Universe score by Bryan Tyler.
- 1812 Overture (this one is pure rock and roll. especially if you know the story (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1812_Overture#Musical_structure).)
- Beethoven's 9th Symphony
- The 'A Clockwork Orange' soundtrack is really nice. (pretty much the same as above with variations)
Moonlight Sonata. the fast one.. I forget which Op it is. Piano Sonata No. 14 (thanks, Mr Phobos :) )
Well, I am surely love all Star Wars and Indiana Jones music themes (by the way, I am also was at John Whillams music concert in my city :cheer:, but it was directed by Hobart Earle).
So, this time, I post some of my totaly other favorite soundtacks:
