Not sure when I'll get it done cause not only do I have to make skins, but it's a little hard finding models. If anyone knows of weapon models (ak47s m4's and the like) let me know.

LOL!!!! Matter of fact, I have been testing with a weapon that simply explodes when you trigger it. I will see if I can make a suicide bomb. Send me any models you need and I will try to skin them.

Gilly suit sniper.  made by retexturing the wookie and removing it's custom bone settings. Really hard to see while in the jungle. Also a phunie picture of 007 killing Jaba the Hutt with my custom combat knife.

Thanks, although I would like to point out that these are just stock SWBF maps so far. But I do plan on making 4 maps (desert, jungle, snow, urban) and as am new to map making, any help with the map side of things (lots of reference pics from COD4, MW2 maps, helping with actually making the maps) would really help get this thing out faster.

Here's a shot of how I want the Urban map to feel http://www.zath.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-2-online-screenshot-3.jpg  lots of small streets and alleys and some buildings you can go into and up on the upper stories.  I know that's a lot of work but it something that no one really does, only example I can think of that is close is eddie's italia.  The snow map can be kinda like hoth minus the star wars vehicles.  Desert I want to look like this http://www.dimes.org/tutorials/images/desert.jpg with an oasis and a little village (the buildings from mos eisly would work perfect ).  And the jungle map just needs to look like a jungle :XD:

 :'(Allright, but you will have to make alot of assets, mostly for the urban map. I will need stuff like, lightpoles, houses, destroyed houses, maybe like stairs to go up to another street level, (I can raise the height of the map) If you want places that are dirt and then streets you will also have to make streets.
Other stuff that will be needed:
Destroyed cars
Undestroyed cars
dead bodies of both sides (If you want)
Accessories for buildings (Water towers, antennae, other)
Bridges
I think I can come up with other stuff from custom/shipped assets. It will still need alot of stuff though.
For desert i need rock outcroppings, i can get a lot of rocks from shipped assets. Maybe also some shrubs, fences, buildings ( if you dont only want tatooine stuff)

you can use your discretion for the desert map, you should be able to find all the stuff you need from the tatooine map assets.  As for the urban map's assets, the buildings and cars are easy and the other stuff shouldn't be to hard. And if anybody knows what is involved with making tanks and spaceships I may try my hand at making a tank or jet.

a long time ago i tried making a german tank, but i could never get it to show up ingame right. :'( I even made a av8b harrier, but that wouldt even show up ingame. :'( (and yes, the tank texture sucks)

Chaos how many times do I have to tell you, this is both illegal and impossible since the original assets are not released to the public. You can make a map based off of call of duty, but otherwise, don't mention it on the forum.

And no, it's not easier to do because it involves you porting each individual item and then placing them in the map.

I was messing around with the ODFs and found out a way to have helicopter like movement (you bank in the direction of travel) so this time around it looks more convincing. Also AG pointed out some flaws in the model that I fixed such as the not right proportions and some other details. Textures done, perfected the rotor texture and transparency and now have a more convincing minigun impact effect.

Maybe you could put light shades of camo colors for different terrains (Like light and dark browns for desert, greens and browns for jungle etc.) Which map will this be used in? And I also though of a way where you wanted to make it so the passenger could shoot? Well add a null for a turret on the passenger side and then give it the ord and some of the odf of the machine guns. That would look generally good except they would not be holding their gun and  you could only use the certain gun thatyou want it to act like (So missile launchers and stuff wouldnt work) I can't wait to try this out in one of the maps!

This is basically going to be a total conversion so it should work on all the maps since that's the way I'm testing the sides. It just wont be localized properly

Cool, cool.  :tu: In that case, what sounds were you planning to use for the weapons? There arent many blaster sounds in the game that could pass as gunshots (at least without a lot of imagination.  :P )

So, it looks like you've moved away from the origional "random characters" concept and focused on a modern warfare-type mod instead. Do you think you could put up a simple list of what units and vehicles you plan on replacing? That way, it could be easier for us to give suggestions and opinions on what you have already, and ideas on what blank spots there are to fill.

every unit for the Republic and CIS is going to be replaced by something from real life. As for vehicles I'm only gona replace a couple since they are such a PIA to get working right.

There are actually maps that will be modern warfare-type. So far desert is done if i can get it to work right, if not we can use older versions. We will soon have the jungle map and maybe snow map. Then nik will hopefully have the stuff done for the urban map and we will have that also.

Most of the pictures are of tests of the sides on stock maps. But the one of the guy with the SAW in the bunker is on a map that Gogo12 made, and I have to say it is one of the coolest maps I've ever played on. If you want to see more check back frequently, I'll have some sneak peaks of it soon.  :shady:

 :slap: I just said that Gogo12 made a map for it. I planned on having about 4 maps made but it looks like there will just be one for while. And if you want you will be able to take the sides out of the map folder and replace your stock sides.

:EDIT: (new idea) When I'm done with the projects I'm working on at the moment I might make a side mod for SWBF2. It would be cool to have the regular soldier's gun would go from M16 to M4 sopmod, heavy troopers gun would go from M60 to M249, snipers would go from M24 to Berreta 50 cal. And I'm not sure what the first pistol would be but it would change to the Desert Eagle.

And I really need the rebel vanguard model from SWBF2, if anybody has a link to it or even just the texture that would save me alot of time.

I dont mean to be pessimistic, but my personal opinion is that modders should stay away from making BF2 "universal" side mods. This isnt just because I'm biased to prefer BF1- one thing I've noticed about the BF2 mod community is that they are VERY picky, and as far as custom maps go, where once custom sides were a nice bonus, it seems nowadays they're a necessity for most people to even consider downloading  a map. Whats wrong with that? Nothing, but what it DOES mean is that your side mod for BF2 will almost certainly be incompatable with most maps, and thus players would be forced to use the stock maps again and again- which, of course, would get boring after a while. My opinion? stick with BF1 if you want to focus on side mods.

I'm not going to make one for the USA because they will have the advantage of actually having vehicles, their heavy trooper will carry a SAW, pistol, and knife. The insugents on the other hand :shifty:  No peaks until I'm happy with the way it looks.. 

Anyway the way I see it is if I can get enough hint nodes on the maps and make the weapons deadly enough, it will make it more of a tactical game instead of an ego shooter.  Now if only I could use my plethera of weapon noises instead of the ones that come with SWBF it would feel like a totaly different game

OMG OMG OMG! THIS IS AMAZING!...but there are some few things you can add...in the vietnam war they had trences so the vietnammers could go from those *camuflaged* trences and attack the enamy (US). Thats point. Trences

Second point is when you start on the vietnam side...make sure you have suddice killers with them.

3th one...maybe a road....(they had roads yes, not that much tho

I say you should go for a more "realistic" approach. I think it would fit the intensity of the theme a lot better. You've got modern vehicles, modern weapons, and modern factions, it would be appropriate for the consequences of being shot to be realistic too. If you're trying to establish a theme for the mod, you might as well go as far as you can.
Besides, it gets kind of frustrating when you need to waste huge chunks of ammo taking down one opponent, which is actually one of my few criticisms of the unmodded game to begin with.

Amazing! I love the Humvee. And that M4A1(My favorite gun in the world)looks awesome! :D  :D And I love the RPG. Will it have realistic damage? (I'm guessing yes)

Not really sure what the first question is  :blink: As for the second I would like to make it have the real sound for everything but I'm really not sure that there is a successful way of putting custom sounds into the game. If there is a way I'd do it in a heartbeat but if not I'll just try and chose the closest sound that's already in the game


And thanks guys for the positive feedback it's really awsome to hear when people like my work. But I will say that even negative feedback is welcome as it helps me improve my style.

For you to improve your style. I recomend so many tunnels under ground that you get lost. Like a maze within a maze within a maze not knowing how to get out of it.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure it's impossible to add custom sounds to this kind of mod. I'm fairly sure if these sides were made for a specific map, you'd be able to include new sounds in the files of the map itself. However, seeing as one of the main selling points of this mod is it's compatibility with ALL maps without custom sides, It's my personal opinion you should stick with the blaster sounds and let the player's imagination explain/ignore them. :P

@ Nikoli   the first question was instead of what thing have you replaced the car (instead of the x-wing or something like that)
@Mike   And they say my line's are spelled wrong (maze in a maze in a maze without being a maze but accualy it Is a maze however if it would be a maze it wouldn't look like this not-mazy map but it should be a mazy map because that was the first opinion)

The Humvee replaces the Republic hover tank. And now that I've found out how to make turrets (thanks to the help of epifire) I can finally make tanks so that the russians and US can now have main battle tanks!

Creating sound for the game is very simple. I can munge a side file and have skins and changes for the troops. When some one sets up a simple munge folders for sound then sound for the mod can be made very easy.

I love the detail on the feet, Skywalker's model didn't even have detailed feet last time I remembered.

Overall this looks very exciting, I am patiently awaiting for the public release. While this mod is amazing in terms of visual content, please make the new game mechanics as polished as you can. I'd rather have a polished game that looks terrible than a beautiful one that's broken. For example, nobody wants a chopper to annihilate everyone in its path to render the whole game useless.

Take the time to make this mod, the mod. It's best not rushed, but please tease us with updates whenever you can. :D


Also random sidenote, it would be pretty sweet if you made another version of the mod where it's only visually different so that it's online compatible. Just for the enjoyment. :D

:o you didn't like my chopper Mk1??? lol I'm planning on making the chopper really powerfull offensive wise but have really weak armor (the RPG-7 is going to have a field day :shady:) to make up for the russians not having any choppers

First off I'd like to let you guys know that I haven't given up on this mod. I just am really really busy so if I have time to mod it's usually (if I'm lucky) maybe 5 min a day so I haven't been able to continue at my previous rate.  :td:

Secondly I recently got to watch Avatar for the first time. And I have to say, I was really impressed by the technology that the humans used and I really liked the way their guns looked. So all this to say. How interested would you guys be for a mod that makes the game similar to battlefield 2142 after this mod is released?
It wouldn't require a lot of changes and I'd be able to use quite a few of the included star wars sounds without making it seem funky.
The other option would be to make a not quite 2142 but not 2010 era. Say something more like 2030. So there would be some real life guns that are being used today and also allow me to add lazer guns and also my favorite VTOLs (like in Avatar and Halo)

So what do you guys say?

Thanks Link for the offer, but as for reference pics I'm good. If you really want to help out, I could really use help in making character textures. Those buggers are a PIA to have to do all by my self. Plus I kinda get writer(er texturer's) block when trying to come up with original ideas for the sides and how they should look.
I already have a pretty good idea for how I want one side to look but the other side I'm not sure if it should be a super power type force (SPvsSP) or an insurgent type force (SPvsIN)

Ok, I've been thinking this one over alot. I've decided that the current mod that I'm working on is going to be changed to a future mod. It will be set in 2040 and will have a mix of real life weapons and some futuristic guns. It will feature VTOLs, Tanks, and Motorcycles.

One of the deciding factors for me was that the modern day soldiers have way too many pouches on their vests or way too much gear. And the SWBF engine can't handle enough polys to make them look convincing. You end up running into the same issues as the rep commandos. Changing to a more modern future allows me to make the characters more 'clean' and still have them look good. It also allows me to branch out to more vehicles and also allows me to use laser weapons and jetpacks without them seeming out of place.

I know it's a bump of my own thread (don't ban me!!), but I really would like some feedback on the above comment regarding changing the of the time line. Also it seems like there is little interest in this mod as it is, if you disagree please let me know. As I have no interest in spending what little free time I have on something that no one cares about.

BTW Nikoli, if you're interested in doing something in the not-too-distant future, I would highly suggest you to watch the old Ghost in the Shell movie. It's probably my favorite piece of anime and it's absolutely brilliant how they portrayed warfare in the year 2029. :)

@ Nikoli- I got your reply. My suggestion for sides is to go for something not obvious; the USA vs. Russia idea has been touched on often in games and fiction, and I wouldn't go for a USA vs. Middle East/Terrorist or China conflict either. Maybe look into various ongoing international disputes which could presumably develop into war.

Off the top of my head, I can kind of envision a US vs. Mexico mod, where A: Mexico collapses under the might of drug lords and attempt to extend their cartels into the US, or B: Mexico tries to reclaim their long-lost Texas territory.
Or maybe even a new American Civil War scenario. It could even be for the same basic reason as the original war; people are divided amongst themselves as to whether the States should carry more authority than the Federal Government, especially during recent events. Some states are trying to opt out of the federal requirement of citizens to purchase health care, and California's prop. 19 directly challenges Federal drug enforcement laws. Now, not that I'm predicting civil war will break out anytime soon, but it may be a realistic scenario for years in the future.

Just some thoughts.  :P

I'm going on with it. Just changing up the era a bit because of some game engine limitations. Don't worry, it will still have real life guns and some other stuff. It's just going to have some scifi-ish stuff thrown in there as well.
