OK thanks to phobos, we can bypass gamespy
until the get their stuff together. since LucasArts told GameSpy to shut down the internet PC servers.
First, download tunngle:
http://www.tunngle.net/index.php?l=en&pg=downloads
install, reboot, note: you need admin account, I believe
make a tunngle account, use a real email address
check email, verify account
modify your firewall settings if needed or shut down your firewall so that it will be able to access the internet.
start tunngle, log in at the bottom (be sure to type your password in, im not sure why there are already dots in the password place)
in the search box, type battlefront (see attachment)
click on it
You will see a list of players. My server account is PLA-Chicago-Server. If you see that, I am running at least one server.
That is all you need to do with tunngle.
The next step is to start SWBF
select LAN join
see the PLA and other servers
join, have fun.
NOTE: The server is hosted in Chicago.
IMPORTANT: Tunngle does not work well with some Belkin routers. Drugrep got a new router and it works fine for him now.check out this link for manual portforward: http://www.tunngle.net/wiki/Port_Forward

A few things to ensure you did when you installed Tunngle.
Step For Windows Vista/7 Users: You right clicked on it and clicked Run as Administrator.
You rebooted straight away after installing Tunngle.
Your computers firewall isn't blocking Tunngle, it will probably automatically add an exception to Windows firewall.
If you are using a custom one you should be smart enough to work out how to add an exception for it.
It may be that you need to forward Tunngle's ports. Perhaps this link can help you http://portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/Tunngle/default.htm (http://portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/Tunngle/default.htm).

Do you have any of the software listed on thier incompatible sofware page?
Tunngle - Compatibility with Third Party Software (http://www.tunngle.net/wiki/Compatibility_with_Third-Party_Software)
right now, Sleepkiller, Phobos, and are on the same game. Come and join us :)
heh
Just installed it, I need to put luke's head back on before I can reboot. :P
installing..
Ill try to set up a FC no cp server on the NFO with tunngle shortly.
VLAN is the best we can do for now until gamespy server gets fixed.
I like this Tunngle.
I particularly like how it disables the virtual adapter when you exit the client.
Seems like a good solution in a pinch.
Thanks for setting it up :)
Ok [FC]-Training-VLAN is now up (no cp mos cit cc).
There seems to be connection issues sometimes it counts busy and says connection to host lost other times it works.
installed tunngle ...no issues all servers working ok thanks to phobos for fix!!!!!!
How do you reboot??
Turn the computer off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
'booting' is an ancient term used to describe getting a computer powered up and ready to run software.
see also: Booting (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booting)
Hm so i just pull the plug? Thanks Tirpider :D
While pulling the plug will certainly power the computer off, I would not recomend that particular method.
I am willing to bet there is a "Shut Down" command on your computer.
On windows it will be something like:
Start button >> Turn Off Computer
I don't know what mac has...
Pulling the plug may cause your hard drive heads to do nasty things and can lead to data loss.
Not every time, but the chance is there.
Ohmy bad :P thanks
i cannot find SWBF when i search battlefront... :slap:
Duh mart :P .Thx to Phobos and Buckler. One day without battlefront is like forever :tu: Cheers to FC
I installed it but it doesn't work :'( :'( .I'll be back on when Gamespy fixes there problems :bye:
I got it to work :cheer: If anyone needs help xfire me: 212norris

Can someone tell me the servers that u see ? =S
2 pla, 3 FC, and im guessing yours: One Evo and the other UEF
Ok thx
When I start Tunngle and log in, I get an error that says Adapter cannot be found.... So i tried to install the Adapter manually in the network adapters, after it is done trying to install it says that it cannot find that Adapter.... Any help or is my time over?
Alright, works fine for me as well. Somehow. But most important: What do I need to make my server visible in the list? Just switch it to Lan mode? We have a regular root server and use the dedicated server tool. No selfhost-crap.
U know my answer <3
But Led is the ''Master'' here ;)

Yes, just use LAN mode. Note that you should have two tunngle accounts, one for hosting and one for playing.
Do I need to install and run Tunngle on our root? Or are there options to "add" a server on my (player) Tunngle account. Is it not possible to host AND play with the same account or is it possible and I will just have some performance problems?
does she need 2 different emaisl then ?
Btw, I use the same for hosting and playing Oo

yes, install and run tunngle on the root. It needs to be a part of the VLAN so that others can see the server. You can not be logged into the same tunngle accounts on two computers at the same time. I will try to make a host guide for SWBF on tunngle soon.

I think you are hosting and playing on the same computer, though, so that is why it works for you.
Alright, sounds quite easy. Thank you. Gonna try it tomorrow for the UEF servers.
Yeah Led.
Supercoooooooool Gamergirl <3 Sounds amazing (Cant wait till tomorrow :P)
Works great, thanks! :cheer:
Supercooooool Faye <3 :D
I think u could make a post in snp site explaining how to do this, so u can play together ;)
Im explaining this to PRO Members :P
I am currently working on a short "tutorial page" with explanation how to use Tunngle as player AND as serveradmin. It hopefully will be finished within a few hours. It will be available in both languages, german and english. I thought about that, because it is much easier sharing a link with the most important things to know than explaining it over and over again.
Jaz, u dont need to i think :
http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?topic=5549.0
Its explained in : English, Dutch (Nederlands), Deutch (German), Español (Spanish), Polish and French (Français) :)
(This is as player) Idk what u mean by Server Admin =0
An own little website is more comfortable to read and can be better organised. I will show you the result in some minutes.
Sure <3 :*
Tada, here you go:
http://uef-clan.com/battlefront/index.html
Could anyone check if the information are correct and if the english is understandable?
The English is right. :) The only thing I would add is a link to SWBFgamers.com so people can ask questions if they get stuck.
Okay, yeah I should really add something like that. I am happy it is online now. Gonna put that information in later or tomorrow.
cool <3
Hey guys, I have Tunngle finally installed. I can't believe how many times I've edited this post to find out that I have worked my own problems, but anyways. Name is goldman27. :P
If you can log into xfire :D search for battlefront. you should see it then join. The face color doesnt always matter. Have you tried starting the game and looking for servers?

Logged on, and I searched for battlefront, joined the lobby, and was in the chatroom. Weird thing is I see the servers on SWBF's LAN, but I can't join the PLA server with 1 person on at the moment!
Does tunngle work with (the orriginal) age of empires?
Theres 11 people in the room now. No where near as many as I've seen on Gameranger though.
.
Some people can't get on Tunngle though because there parents had Tunngle checked and it was said it was not safe espically because its a 3rd party, the only reason i have GameRanger, is because i didn't need to do anything with the firewall, and because my parents never saw it.
This site is a total disappointment!!! Looking to play STBF online only to to find other links TO OTHER SITES every time I attempt downloading software to play SWBF toTAL BS!!

downloading software to play SWBF toTAL BS!!
Most all of us would agree that having to set up a 3rd party solution just to play SWBF is a bit inconvenient.
Unfortunately, since GameSpy pulled the rug out from under every SWBF player, there is no option.
Once you get past the rage and anger of it all and come to accept that, then going to the tunngle site and getting the software isn't so hard.
I miss the days when it was as easy as pressing a button, but time moves forward, and our online benefactors have moved on to profitable endeavors, so we must evolve or quit. It's that simple.
a WASTE OF TIME! TRIED "DOWNLOADING" ONLY GOT LINKS TO OTHER BS SITES! BETTER OFF PLYING SINGLE PLAYER......

OK, here is the deal.
Yes, we are amateurs. We don't work for Disney/Lucas Arts/Pandemic/Gamespy/Tunngle or anything else. We donate our time and money to support this site.
We can't really help it if you can't figure out how to download the tunngle software. We don't own it, we only use it to play multiplayer. If you want some help, we are friendly and will help you, but not if you are being a jerk.
Good luck buddy.
Ask nicely next time and we will do our best to help you.
Oh great, thanks for your post :) :cheer:

Has anyone been having trouble with Tunngle lately? Whenever I try to join it tells me the network is too busy. Updating didn't fix it and I'm fine with my ports.

Yes, I am having exactly the same problem.
So, I downloaded Tunngle, and at the end of the installation it says:
"The software you are installing for this hardware:
TAP-Win32 Adapter V9 (Tunngle)
has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP.
Continuing your installation of this software may impair or destabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing."
It then allows you to either "Continue Anyway" or "STOP Installation"
I tried both the latest version from Tunngle's website and the "Stable" download from here. Both have the same problem, but the "Stable" version also had a couple more. Does anyone have any ideas?
MS has issues...
Anyway, I don't think that is a meaningful warning.
And I believe they got that warning taken care of in the latest download, which I think is 4.5.1.3
I'm gonna hop on Battlefront a few days during my Christmas break, but I don't have Tunngle anymore. Is the link in the first post the most recent update? And what days are the busiest to play ingame?
Tunggle gives you an update if it's not the latest version anyway. There were 10 people on CloudCity just now and almost that many yesterday but it will probably busy during weekdays at Christmas anyway.

Alright, cool. I'll download it sometime today.
I probably won't download Xfire again because I'm trying not to use up too much of the memory on my new laptop, but anyone is welcome to PM me if you wanna play a few games with me (even though I'll be awful) ;)
-edit: Downloaded, updated, and restarted my computer with no problem, then an error came up when I tried to launch Tunngle.
"It says "Systemfehler. Code: 126.
The specific module could not be found."
I'll uninstall and reinstall again, but I have a feeling it's going to do it again.
-edit2: Yup, same error. Any ideas? I have Windows 8, if that matters.Fixed with the help of Google.
Does anyone have any ideas about what I should do if I get the "Connection to host lost" message every time I join a match? It used to do this about 60-70% of the time with GameSpy as well, so it could just be my PC.
Also, thanks for the help up above Led, I appreciated it! The download went smoothly and my PC seems to be ok so far, except for the error stated above.
Maybe the smile thing is yellow or red...
Im not sure but i think since tunngle iis some kind of lan connection its weird to lose connection.... (Or maybe server had lot of ppl (40) like in a ICW match
I'm not sure what the smile thing is, so that could be the problem. The servers all had <10 people, so I don't think that's it. I often had this same error playing on both DC and normal servers before the shutdown. LAN never worked for me before, that might be connected to this.
