Welcome Center / I'm Back for another Round!
April 30, 2015, 10:51:54 AM
Just kidding, I'll be in and out of here soon.

Hey guys! Thought I'd drop by and say hello. All the Star Wars trailers coming out got me really pumped and I just had to come back. I'm already going to say that I'm just here to occassionally post, but I'm not playing any games. After all, you know how hard it is for me to let go of things... Especially when it's related to those Wars in the Stars. ;)

Led, and his fellow Administrative servants, is it okay if I use your Art/Creativity forum so I may post about my own artistic endeavors? I personally am preparing for a big Publicity push soon as I hope to get a Freelance Artistry career on the road, and hopefully from my work in Freelancing, I can continue to prepare myself for work in the industry with TV & Film Animation.

February 28, 2015, 09:14:04 PM
Hey all, long time no see.

I'm considering re-installing Battlefront and coming back to play with you guys next Weekend... but I'm not sure yet. After all, I am in my other pursuits...

If I do it then you all will probably see me next weekend but no longer. See ya soon! (maybe)

I was snooping around and reading some things, so it got me thinking and wanting to ask this question. Who would make a better Star Wars Battlefront? We obviously know who is making it right now, DICE, but what if the famed Call of Duty franchise creators, Treyarch, made the new Battlefront? Or even the great Halo creators, Bungie, made the new Battlefront?

FPS games are all too typical; And these companies I mentioned that make FPS games. However, each of these companies have some very nice differences that set them apart substantially from the others. DICE is creating the new Battlefront, but let's try to anticipate what we would expect from each of these companies if they put out the new Battlefront...

DICE puts a nice balance between the multiplayer and singleplayer aspects of their games. Neither one is very far ahead of the other, and DICE is known a lot more for it's massive warfare, tanks/planes/boats/jeeps and the graphics, but DICE, in a lot of player's and reviewer's opinions, has failed to deliver on a great playing experience in the last few years.

Treyarch is very focused on their multiplayer aspect, and keeping it very suspenseful and fast-paced, to give an exceptional experience to those who enjoy the front to be a little more intense. Treyarch has failed to produce any good campaigns in the past few years, because they are so much more focused on delivering that intense multiplayer. But hey, maybe Treyarch would fix that by adding Stormtrooper Zombies... (Death Troopers)

Bungie, in the past, has also put a nice balance between a multiplayer and singeplayer aspect. Bungie can deliver a good story, and even let you chill and kill in multiplayer for a while. Leave Destiny out of the question, we know Bungie has done an exceptional job with the Halo series over the years, and personally, I think Bungie should've made some sort of deal to make the new Battlefront. Bungie is experienced in the Sci-Fi FPS gaming genres, and their games have proven themselves time and time again to be awesome.

What do you think? I'll stick around a little while to discuss this topic. ;)

Scummies / I'm Done. You are free to go.
December 19, 2014, 05:38:55 PM
This isn't my parent's desicion.
This isn't society's desicion.
The past week has been a struggle for me, but I'm finally at a point where I realized the longer I continue to harm myself with all these games and stuff, I'm really not going to get anywhere I want to go. It's been fun, but even though I've had Battlefront for only 6 years and have been playing with you guys that long, I've had enough. I've explored every aspect of the game I needed to explore. I've tried my hand at everything I could- and managed to fail doing it.

It's not as fun to me as it used to be. And Battlefront isn't the only game I'm leaving behind- I'm selling nearly all the PC games I have. I'm putting my BoPC package up for sale, Battlefront 2, and bushels of others that aren't important to me.

I've got a career in Animation & Graphic Design I need to pursue. I look at myself now and realize that I can't pursue that life, the longer I push myself into pursuing what I have to give for Battlefront, and how the game will never give back to me.

For the past 2 or so years, I've been active at SWBFGamers, and loved the site and the community. But I've got to leave it behind. And I'm not waiting for the 10th Anniversary Events to leave, I'm leaving now. Waiting might only bring me back into the community.

I love the community, and I feel like you guys have given me so many opportunities that I could never pay back to you. I'm sorry I could never do this... But I will give the absolutely, utmost Thanks I have to offer.

A thank you to all the names on this list, you have made my journey these years wonderful... In no particular order, my utmost Thanks goes to

Thank you for supporting me.
Thank you for guiding me.
Thank you for giving me a chance.
You all have helped me somehow, even if you don't realize it.
I can't express how much I owe to all of you, but I can give you all the respect I have.

Let's discuss the Gamemodes we'll be seeing in SWBF3...

I think it's pretty straight forward that we'll be seeing at least 3 familiar gamemodes in SWBF3, those gamemodes being...

- Conquest
- Team Deathmatch
- Capture the Flag

But, what else will we be seeing? I think I've got some ideas...

- Carrier Assault: In SWBF3, this will probably be a very large scale Space Battle, and it might not have any infantry fighting- Only Starship versus Starship, in an attempt to destroy the enemy's Carrier. I'm hoping that both Carriers will have onboard turrets that players can use, and I'm hoping that each Carrier will have shields that need to be destroyed.
- Chainlink: This a fun mode, and requires a team to capture command points in simultaneous fashion, creating links between each adjacent point. The team who has the most adjacent points drains the enemy's tickets faster, but one team capturing all points will not end the game or take spawnpoints from the enemy.
- Squad Deathmatch: This is generally a close-quarters mode, and small squads of 4-5 players will fight against 3 other squads until one squad comes out with the most kills. It's very fast-paced, and any player should be very tactical and willing to cooperate with the rest of the squad to win.

That's what I'm seeing in SWBF3 when it comes to Gamemodes. There are probably more, and I will probably add to the list later.

Let's take a moment to discuss the classes we'll be seeing in SWBF3.
We know DICE generally uses a 4-class system, so I'm expecting to see another Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon classes.

-Assault
Auto Rifle (likely upgradeable and potential for other autos)
Secondary blaster (above)
Grenade (variable)
Equipment (above)

-Engineer
SMG style blaster (upgrade, variable)
Secondary
Repair Gun
Equipment

-Support
Shotgun style weapon
Secondary
Explosive Device
Possibly a second carry on main weapon

-Recon
Sniper Rifle
Secondary
?Recon Droid?
Spotting Device

•Lets discuss the possibilities, shall we?

General / SW7 v KFP3
December 15, 2014, 04:41:17 PM
As most of you know, I'm a big fan of Kung Fu Panda. But, I'm also a fan of Star Wars...

Kung Fu Panda 3 was set to premier 7 days after what SW7 was announced for, even though KFP apparently announced first.

But, you SW guys won. http://m.christianpost.com/news/dreamworks-pushes-back-kung-fu-panda-3-release-date-to-make-way-for-stars-wars-vii--131147/

SWBF1 Modding / Oasis Mos Eisley [WIP]
December 13, 2014, 02:33:58 PM
Is it possible to add water to a map as part of a skin? The water doesn't need any properties other than it just sitting on the map. No sound, no death in deep water... none of that. Just wanted to use water as a visual effect in one's own skin.

Oasis Mos Eisley - Map Checklist

Add Foliage (Vines, Grass, Trees, etc.)
Ankle-height Flooding

General / Thank you, GDH92
December 12, 2014, 07:15:45 PM
I'm constantly checking for updates about the next Battlefront. Thank you for posting this 2 hours ago!
https://metro.co.uk/2014/12/13/10-years-of-star-wars-battlefront-readers-feature-4975300/

I thought we were noted by some popular blog site, then I saw the author's name. ;)

Thanks GDH, and thank you SWBFGamers community!

GDH, your post is top news on Google right now for the search "Star Wars Battlefront" and probably a few other searches. Seems like good advertising to me. Haha

So, we've seen the new Star Wars Ep. 7 trailer now, but what can we expect when SW7 collides with the upcoming SWBF from Dice?

The following post breaks it down pretty well, and was a fun read in my own opinion.
http://moviepilot.com/posts/2014/12/02/star-wars-battlefront-how-does-it-tie-to-star-wars-7-2476689?lt_source=external,manual

So, I've gotta ask. What do you guys think about this? SW7 and SWBF3...

All I can say is that I think we are geared for something pretty awesome for SWBF3. I loved the SW:7 trailer, and can't wait to see what they have in store for the movie, and further more, what from that will be in the game. My patience grows more and more thin. ;)

Requests / Low Quality Menus
December 09, 2014, 03:42:20 PM
Hey guys, I'm looking for a mod that reduces the overall quality of SWBF's menus and such. I'm setting up SWBF on my laptop, and it's running pretty well in-game now, but still slow as crap through the Menus, such as the Main Menu and the Singleplayer menus and etc, where it's always trying to load that big blue video in the back.

Anyone have a way to reduce the quality of all the menus and leave out the background video?

What I need in particular:
• Low Quality Menu Bars
• No Animations on Menus
• No Background Video

If you guys can do this for me, then thank you so much! It's highly appreciated. ;)

Star Wars Battlefront (2004 Original) / DirectConnection?
December 08, 2014, 08:01:58 PM
So, does Direct Connection send you directly to the destination IP, without having to go through GameMaster and whatever?

And, could a dedicated server be run and only be connected to through DC?

I haven't used DC in awhile, so I don't know the answer to either of them...

SWBF1 Modding / Ticket Bar Modding
December 06, 2014, 03:20:17 PM
Is it possible to change how the Tickets at the top of the in-game GUI work? I want the tickets to do something different- Not count the reinforcements/lives...

I want the Green side of the Ticket bar to show how many Kills you have made.
I want the Red side of the Ticket bar to show how many Deaths you have had.
Both bars' colors would "fill" the bar instead of "drain".

Is that possible?

Above is only the first idea.
The second ticket bar idea is slightly different.

I want the Green side to show how many Kills you have made.
I want the Red side to show how many lives are left for ALL of the players/AI on the field.
The Green bar would "fill", while the red bar would "drain".

Is the second idea possible?

And if either is possible, how would I do it? If you don't know, would you mind telling something that might be remotely helpful so I might be able to figure it out? Thanks!

Star Wars Battlefront (2004 Original) / Best Visibility?
November 30, 2014, 06:50:57 PM
What are the best Video Settings I can use in swbf to increase visibility of targets? I've got my LOD and View distance maxed, but I'm hoping for some other things that make your targets seem to "pop" better.

Efforts have been made already towards advertising this monumental 10th Anniversary, but any ideas to what we can do to further our reach?

Requests / Mos Eisley at Night ?
November 22, 2014, 06:16:18 PM
Anyone have the Mos Eisley at Night map? http://www.swbfgamers.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=328

The link in the Download is a bust- Gamefront probably removed the file.

Much appreciated if found! I'm trying to collect all Nighttime mods. ;)

Tech Support / How to Fix "d3dx9_43.dll" Error (Windows)
November 18, 2014, 06:42:54 PM
Hi, this is a tutorial to fix the "d3dx9_43.dll Missing" error when attempting to play Star Wars Battlefront.

"d3dx9_43.dll" is a DirectX file, an application designed to help you run certain programs, especially games.
Here is a picture of what the error will most likely look like when you recieve it:

There are a few simple ways to fix this error and gain the file you are missing. Here's how you can do it:

1. Re-install DirectX (Recommended)

Re-installing DirectX is possibly the most simple and easiest way to fix the error. Here's how Microsoft recommends you should install the latest version of DirectX: https://support.microsoft.com/kb/179113/
After re-installing DirectX, restart your computer and check to see if SWBF is working properly now. If it does not work, move on to the option below.

2. Re-install Star Wars Battlefront
*I would like to recommend that you DO NOT attempt to re-install Star Wars Battlefront as your first resort to fixing the error. I encourage you to explore Option 1(above) first before attempting to re-install SWBF, since there is a chance you can lose any mods you have downloaded. If you still wish to continue with re-installing SWBF however, then read on.*
Re-installing SWBF is just as simple as you installed it the first time. If you have modified your copy of Battlefront, please make sure to back up any mods you have, otherwise they will be lost during the re-install!
To uninstall SWBF, open Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program. Click to uninstall Star Wars Battlefront. Once the uninstall is complete, simply load your disk back in and run the install from your disk. Once you have completed the install, re-start your computer and check to see if Star Wars Battlefront is working properly now. *Restart your computer BEFORE attempting to move your mods back into the game.*

3. Download the "d3dx9_43.dll" file directly (NOT RECOMMENDED)
**I do NOT recommend you attempt to download this file directly from the internet, otherwise you may accidentally gain a harmful virus. If you are set on downloading this file, then read on.**
To download the "d3dx9_43.dll", first you need to locate your DirectX files. Open your windows explorer, and navigate to C: > Windows > System32. All the DirectX files should be in the System32 folder. Scroll through the folder and check to see if the file you are "missing" is in the list. If not, then follow this Link: http://www.mediafire.com/download/f39nuwatnaafnqc/D3DX9_43.dll
The link leads to my own copy of the "d3dx9_43.dll" file. I cannot guarantee that the file will work for you like it has for me. Once you have downloaded the file, move it into your System32 folder. Restart your computer and check to see if Star Wars Battlefront is working properly now.

I hope this tutorial has fixed your error!

I wrote this tutorial after people in the community and my own friends began having this error. After going over the first two options, everything began working, so I still do NOT recommend you resort to the third option unless absolutely necessary.

*I request this be Edited by anyone who feels the information is incorrect or misleading. Thank you!*

Public Square / Engaging a Re-Growing Community
November 15, 2014, 08:32:21 PM
I am on this site for hours and hours most days, constantly checking for new updates, things to talk about, and things to search for when they cross my mind. The hours I spend around here, I always notice the "Who's Online" bar and always notice a registered member who is either brand new or they have very few posts on the site but I've been around for awhile. It makes me wonder a lot why the site isn't more engaging to more members of the community. I want these community members to come and be a true part of the community, but hardly any of them ever do. People always register to download a few mods, maybe lurk some of the forums, but never seem to hang around or say "Hello" very often at all. So, I've been pondering... why is it like this?

Then I realized... We are old- The site is old. It's not hip- not flashy- not attractive to audiences in modern terms. I look at it again and again, but always notice the 3 main colors of the default site layout- Black, Gray, and White. Dull colors. Don't get me wrong, many popular sites today still use White- such as YouTube, Reddit... White is fine; We've just managed to make White dull with other dull colors. We're a Star Wars: Battlefront site. I think it's time to upgrade to a Default theme that represents the game we play! Who can forget the classic Battlefront look with blue backgrounds, orange headers and white text? Everyone in our community is accustomed to it, and I think it would be a very nice addition to have! But don't get me wrong, I absolutely do love the current default layout... but we need some flavor! Something to engage an audience that is once again growing, even after the Gamespy shut-out. When we represent dull colors, we look dull too! I'm not saying we should completely destroy the theme we have all grown on; Like I said, White is nice. White works, White is still in style. But, let's add some seasoning on top of the White- Change the header backgrounds to something Orange... Maybe add a little blue in somewhere. Hey, what's wrong with classic SWBF colors?

======

But wait, there's still something else missing... I think we should have a page in our community for all the Photos and Videos we make. Currently, we make thread after thread- Reply after reply for our different photos and videos, so I'm suggesting we have our own little Community page for our Photos and Videos. Heck, we could even make Webs host it and have an external link to it! Perhaps being able to display our fun memories with the community will engage our growing audience, instead of making them go to YouTube and XFire photos.

======

I have a big heart for this community, so it feels odd when everybody just seems to keep passing us by. Can we prevent being ignored? Can we Engage a Re-Growing Community?

TL;DR Version: Make the Website layout more stylish and add a Community Photos and Videos page, so we can engage an audience we have that doesn't do anything.

Tech Support / New Build Concerns
November 15, 2014, 07:33:50 PM
A friend recently linked me this guide to this $725-USD PC Build:
http://pcpartpicker.com/guide/y2V323/800-gaming-build

My friend and I don't know much about PC builds however, so I thought to come here. I'm liking the sound of the Build in the guide, but can I make it any better without going over $800? And how?

Tech Support / GameRanger Proxy
November 11, 2014, 08:00:39 AM
Hey guys, me and some friends are trying to play LAN games in our Game Programming class, but we are on a locked internet connection that tries to block any gaming activities.
(The only reason we are playing games is because our teacher doesn't know what she's doing; We have this teacher because our old teacher moved to a different room and the current is from a basic-level computer introduction class.)

So, we downloaded GameRanger knowing we could use it for changing Proxy settings and connecting to the LAN, but we can't find any free HTTP or SOCKS proxies to use! Can you help, please?

Thanks!
