What are .option files?

i encountered them in the msh folder of the side builder

Do i need to open this to change the tga of a soldier?

If you are just changing the paint on a soldier, no.

No, the .msh.option files usualy care information about size, collision, and bumpmap.
To change .tga names, you need to edit .msh with HEX editor.
