OK, I have put up a placeholder index page at
http://thesyndicate.swbfgamers.com
We will have a little bit of work to figure out exactly how we want it built. This is raw hosting, so we can upload our own html pages or we can try a word press or weebly site builder, of which I have used neither.
Hmm, well I have no idea how to use custom html, but usually site builders come with tutorials. It takes some time to get used to it, though.

I love the placeholder picture. 8)
OK, let's try weebly.

Oh, yeah that's a no.
Well, I don't recognize most of these. Does WordPress require the password?
WordPress is quite basic but I think you can have multiple accounts for it and an admin account. To edit the site you just add wp-admin to the Web address and log in with your user name.
While we have more than a handful of site builders and the like to pick from, how about we decide the following:
- What will the website contain? (what information/links/etc.?)
- How will the website look? (portal like SWBFGamers? Something else?)
- What sort of color/theme will the website have? (what appearance will the website have? Bare-bones? Fancy?)
- Other ideas? (A full forum? A guestbook? A webpage for history? Custom-looking cursor?)
Just saying, perhaps we should decide what it is we will end up doing, and then figure out what service would be able to accomodate our ideas.
Good idea, GM. Well, when I think of a Syndicate I think of some kind of dark color scheme, maybe blue and black or something.
As for pages.. There would need to be a page for the tenets, a page for current clans involved, a redirect to swbfgamers. I think a guestbook is unnecessary, it would probably just get spammed. The home page could have general information about the Syndicate. So, pretty basic pages.
It doesn't need to be too fancy, but should still draw the eye a bit.
So, I'm not sure which one is capable of that.
In the meantime, how about a new placeholder picture?
Also, I noticed you used my picture. :P (Not "my" picture, but it was the one I uploaded.)

Agreed, perhaps a deep blue/black would work. If we knew someone who was good at designing websites, perhaps we could have the theme geared towards an Imperial appearance (I'm talking like CSS coding really). If we want to go more for a seedy, outlander type of look, that might work too. Or just something unique entirely (akin to crime syndicates like Black Sun).
As for the webpages, some general info would indeed work. Nothing that would require membership, of course.
I know Weebly allows CSS template editing, so you can make your own webpage from the ground up with CSS if you really want to. Though in terms of all of this, I suppose we could start exploring options.

I think a kinda diffuse blue, with a dark grey (almost black) would be good for the colors. I'd also suggest trying to keep it simple with less clutter to start with. The thing about the colors is you want it to give enough contrast to the rest of the page that it gives enough definition (to what ever font you end up using), but not so much that people get blinded when reading it late at night.
For the actual layout I'd just try and give it basic organization (not too many subdivided topics) since you could add in more as needed. In short, my advice is to keep it simple and to the point as much as possible. Can always tack on more later as needed but then people wont get bogged down when arriving for the first time.
Ok guys, the simple rule when talking about aesthetics is: show don't tell.
Post some examples of websites that you like to look of, that'll help get your ideas across.
p.s. I don't like the name 'Syndicate' so I'm going to refer to it as 'The Groovy Group' from now on.

I kinda like the look of the AF website. Well, the color scheme.
Syndicate -- The Groovy Group. It's basically the same..

okies, its up!
For making webpages, I find a program called "sea monkey" that is really easy to use.
You can save the files on your hard drive, then I can upload them to the site.
http://www.seamonkey-project.org/
It is what I used to make the place holder page.
I'll give it a go.
Here is a pic that I made and thought would be pretty good for a placeholder.
I can offer my help in editing raw html pages, or providing visuals through photoshop, if needed.
A homepage with news, teams / memberlist page, rules and forum page are the basics in my opinion, we can think of more content ( videos, images, rankings if we organize events ) but for now, these few are the most important. A portal just like SWBFGamers.com might be too much, but we must think of how we will integrate the forum into the website.
I do not know how much we can modify and personify wordpress themes, but I really like what they are offering.
Based on the amount of clans that arent even responding that they're uninterested, like I asked on the syndicate discussion thread, I don't think we will be needing a website. It looks like the whole idea is just too much for the average person to handle.

It may take a while for it to take hold on clans, but I think it's still worth going through with.
Yes, give them time. Not all clans are visiting the forums often enough to be informed about this project.
So I've been messaging people directly about this and have fleshed out some ideas I think we may want to have as core components.
Community Doorsteps
Led touched lightly on this matter but I'm expanding on it a little more. Firstly when proposing this concept to other communities I've been keeping it as simple as possible and that's how the doorstep comes into play. The doorstep is a page that can be personalized to the said group's liking. For example if BFC or GT attained membership they might have their banner at the top with their site's color schemes on the page. Also with each doorstep there would be a minimal, mandatory sub category where other groups might address them directly. These are my suggested requirements to communities considering joining...
1: The community/clan wishing to attain membership in the Syndicate must agree to the posting of their site (as a link redirect)
2: If said community is not using the redirect method then they can be appointed a larger subforum within their doorstep (inviting for startup clans).
3: One representative is required from their community to act as their doorstep admin. This admin could customize the look as well as moderate within their own doorstep. They are also responsible for speaking on behalf of their community and they're also who we go to if we need to contact them directly.
Community Voting
Later on we may want to have votes drawn for different decisions for the Syndicate as a whole. Just to simplify things for major votes, I think their representative should control their vote. Possibly we may be able to build a leadership subcategory that can be viewed by everybody but only posted in by community admins.
My suggestion is to keep things really simple and that's why I'm big on the doorstep concept. That way starting a membership is stupidly simple. A good way to convince naysayers that think we're pushing them to do a lot, when it's really quite easy.
Yeah, I'm starting to see that's the way it has to be presented. But communities won't be joining the Syndicate. It's only a community for clans, not for other communities. We take it to other communities so that the clans that frequent that community can hear about it.
Also, this topic is starting to bend toward discussing the actual Syndicate, which should stay on the topic in the General board.
After using the Esportsify site builder that Syyy directed me to, I think this suits all our needs:

Just a little test site by the way, I don't intend for this to become anything bigger.

Well it looks good, GM. :P
Just wanted to bring it to somebody's attention... I think this idea fell through and if anyone is paying to host http://www.thesyndicate.swbfgamers.com/, then you might want to reconsider.
I just realized it is under the same domain, hence this edit. :slap: I don't know how everything is covered, but just thought I would bring it to attention.
