our gameserver got crashed, and someone else's got compromised
I had a 40 mbit/sec traffic spike at the crash...
Good information to know. This is why I set my PC to install updates automatically...
This is why I use Linux.
Microsoft has A ton of back doors just waiting for a hacker to discover.
if you use Windows than you are simply not safe from these threats.
how ever there is an alternative and its Linux just try it. (you could use mac to but i think some of us can't afford it.)
This is a list of the most secure common PC OSes:
3. Windows (the most insecure commonly used OS ever if you use this than you probably have or will be hacked at some time or another)
2. Mac (You probably think mac is "the most secure OS ever" but your wrong. its a fairely secure OS but its not the most secure OS)
1. Linux or Unix based OSes (yup here you go people the most secure OS that is commonly used or i guess not that common but believe it or not its the most secure OS ever)
but we are not including BSD here.
if you want more proof try these links:

if you feel you must use windows try comodo antivirus
i think comodo antivirus is the best antivirus protection out there mcafee an norton are not that good at all

or if you want it for Linux

yes well um. for most people i guess that would be good but after all there was GWX(get windows 10) update.
so if I am using a windows OS i have it set to not install updates automatically. so i can choose what ones i want.
but yes anyway you defenitaly need to keep your PC updated regardless of what OS your using
oh and Led if you can use Linux on your servers instead of Windows it would make you A lot more secure.
Edit: If you want to know more about Linux and\or comodo and that stuff feel free to send me a PM
Not all of our servers work properly in WINE (SWBF2 in particular), so we will continue to use Windows.
Every OS has weakness, and anything connected and communicating with the internet at large is at some level of risk.
I've used Linux since Linus Torvalds released 0.93a and while it is a fine OS, the operator must know, understand, and properly use the permissions and levels of account access or the extra precautions in the OS itself will be of not much use.
From a security standpoint too, it's good to not run as the Admin account on your machine - it's not too big an inconvenience to just type in an admin password whenever you need admin privileges, and it'll keep attackers from getting admin privileges if you get compromised.
Hey we are having the same problem, we are using a hosting service for our server, is there any way to fix this?
