gaming through direct connect

I never played via direct connect before, I looked at it today, and if you host via direct connect, you can only have maximum 4 players.

Is it possible to use direct connect to join a regular SWBF server, if you have the IP address, to play with 12 or 16 players??

short answer = not anymore. sadly there is something in DC that requires gamespy master server connection to work.
