For SWBF2, First thing try: Options: Online: Hosting Bandwidth and make sure it is set to 6M.

(This applies to any game:) If you host from home, the player that hosts will always have the best ping (lowest lag). Ping/lag depends on the distance between the player and host, and network conditions between the host and the other players computers. Assuming the host has properly set up port forwarding for the game, there are only a couple of things you can try that are practical:

1) if you are on wireless, try a wired connection instead (particularly for the host). Wireless connections may pick up occasional interference, etc. that wired connections would not get.

2) some routers allow you to set up priority for gaming connections (it might be called QOS in your router manual).

Less practical solutions/non-practical solutions: make sure no one at your house is streaming movies or torrenting at the same time you are trying to play; change ISP's (cable vs DSL); move physically closer the host computer (i.e. if you are in Australia and the host is in the US; move to the US).

Lastly, please keep in mind that the Master Server (SWBFspy) only functions as the game server browser, and does not enter into connection issues between the player and the host.

Lastly, if you can tell us what you did to fix your crashing , we can list that as a solution for others that may have that problem.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet

Also I think SWBF2 supports the /waitlate command which should reduce server lag for other players with high ping. Make sure the hosting computer has good hardware and CPU. Anyder recommends 40tps for SWBF2 servers.
