Title: Black Ops 2!
Post by: aeria. on November 08, 2012, 06:28:29 PM
I'm a huge fan of the new setting and backstory to Black Ops 2. It takes a lot of inspiration from cyber punk anime like Ghost in the Shell (where I got the name aeria) and merges it with the war settings of American games. I haven't been this excited for a Call of Duty game in a long while.

Anyway, here's (https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/9111_4828884922639_41204046_n.jpg) how bad I wanted to play it!

Anyone else interested in Black Ops? I know the series is getting a bit repetitive but I'm pleased with this one. :)

Im one of those people who doesnt like call of duty because they are all the same. Yes, i do have black ops 2, which is how i know it feels like the first black ops to me, but if it was my choice i wouldnt of bought it. My brother loves call of duty and i really dont know why.

Honestly I can't stand call of duty single player. MW2 was the last game I finished SP for. I didn't like it either (story made no sense).
Black Ops had great multiplayer. It's a shame they didn't keep the pro perks, contracts and money system. They really made it addicting.
I didn't play MW3 for more than 15 minutes. It was just not fun for me to play.

Black Ops 2 I'm very happy with however it is true, it plays like any other Call of Duty game. It is that way by design yet it changes several concepts completely to it fresh for people who enjoy the cod gameplay. I think the multiplayer isn't as good as Battlefield 3 but the near futuristic setting it what makes it so interesting for me!
Despite getting the game a week early, I have yet to play Single Player. :/

@Ltin
The reason why people love Call of Duty is because there's plenty of eye candy and it's easy to play. Call of Duty has a lot of power to the player and little responsibility. The little things like the quick aiming, reload canceling, and low recoil is why people play it. The players aren't constricted with slow movements, high recoil, or teammate communication. It really is the arcade shooter.

While cod has gotten a bit repetitive, it's still a fun MP experience if you mix up the game modes every few games. Playing with friends doesn't hurt either. :)

Once again, tha`ts true XD.60% of the players in cod (or more) are kids, and i know how a game like this can change someone...And those `glitches`really make the game less real, that`s where BF3 gets a big advantage.

I suppose Treyarch/Infinity Ward sees it as "if it ain't broken don't fix it". Considering they're still making billions from the franchise I see why they're hesitant to make any drastic changes.

I thought it was activision that made money off cod

I don't believe people play cod expect a realistic experience but BF3 is far from realistic either. BF3 is a great multiplayer game but comparing them is difficult because they can be very different games at times.

While there are a lot of kids who play call of duty, they're easy to kill. hehe
The "glitches" are became key gameplay mechanics and as a video game, it adds to the level of strategy if you're aiming for the kill/death ratio. It's similar to how SWBF has mine throwing and sticky nades. The developers didn't expect people to figure out instant-detonating grenades but it became a life-saving tactic.

Don't get me wrong, I played BF3 so much last year and it's a great game. But cod has a good arcade-style gameplay that's overall fun to play if you're looking for that kind of gameplay.

They are the publishers, Infinity Ward and Treyarch are the devs... Point is they all make money and that's what they like doing.

Treyarch just has the common courtesy to be more creative.

If you are implying that infinity ward does not, then i agree with you 100% there.
my bet is that when mw4 comes around, its going to be just like mw3, which from my understanding is just like mw2(correct me if im wrong)

You guys do know it is Activision that makes the call on stuff like that right?

Activision is the publisher, which means they command the developers (3arc, iw) to create a video game by X date (usually before holiday season) and to create DLC maps by Y date. Activision has control over the pricing, release dates, and marketing of the product. They also give a fat paycheck back to the development studios, which can be used on upgrading the equipment and to pay the developers.

About the "creativity":
The reason why Modern Warfare 3 was so similar Modern Warfare 2 is because during development there was a scandal that caused Activision and IW to have a falling out. Activision's CEO allegedly commanded an IT worker in IW to illegally break into the emails of IW's CEO and President. They did not trust them and believe they are holding information from Activision. Both of them had allegedly met up with EA, a rival publisher, to talk about a deal with their company. That was breach in the contract in which IW has signed to Activision. After firing both of them from their own company, half of their employees had voluntarily left. The whole scandal crippled development by not only delaying it but also by removing half the man power. They brought in a 2nd studio to help with the development of the game but it was not perfect.

It became evident that they couldn't produce an entirely new game, reusing MANY of the assets from MW2.

TL;DR They lost half the studio and couldn't make MW3 with many new assets.

Yes! Thanks for refreshing my memory, the studio that helped out was Sledgehammer Games

Minor note: I made a whole bunch of grammar errors... eh English isnt my strong point anyway. At least I tried.
