Okay so I got XSI working, installed ZETools and Python, and set the scripting engine to Pythons but every time I try to open ZETools from the drop-down list it doesn't come up and there is a error message thats in code in red at the bottom. Can I get some help
Whats the error message?
This is the code:
"OLE error 0x80020101"
No idea what that means. Whats your install location?
(C:)/Users/not telling you my name/Softimage_Mod_Tools_7.5/Addons
I'm not sure what the error means, but I am assuming you did reboot your computer after installing python and ZETools?
yep
K, just checking.
Till real solutions happen, have you checked Ande's FAQ?
https://sites.google.com/site/andescp/zetools_faq
Most of the errors I encountered while setting up ZETools were because of weird version numbers for the python stuff. Ande is pretty specific on what you should get.
I ended up using:
Python - python-2.6.6.msi
http://www.python.org/download/releases/2.6.6/
Pywin - pywin32-217.win32-py2.6.exe
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pywin32/files/pywin32/Build%20217/
You have to get the right version of pywin for python or it wont work.
If this doesn't fix it, then it may be a VC redistributable error. (yeah, another file..)
Visual C++ 2010 redistributable
x86 - http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5555
If that doesn't work, then get the 64 bit version.
x64 - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14632
Once the Python stuff and VC is setup right, you should be able to just start XSI and ZETools just works.
the site doesn't realy have whats wrong with me and those are the to python downloads i got (I already had the Microsoft C++ Visual 2010)
Well, I am stuck then.
looking around google for OLE error 0x80020101 to see if there is any general idea of what might be causing it, but so far I am seeing nothing illuminating.
Just checked my install folder for ZETools and it is different than yours.
C:\users\tirpider\Autodesk\Softimage_Mod_Tool_7.5\Addons\XSIZETools
Perhaps that helps?
I just moved it and now when i launch the batch file to launch XSI it says that it can't find the application for XSI

"OLE error 0x80020101"
Curious question:
Oh, I hope, you did not try clicking this buttons: ZETools>ZETools...?
Ande, unfinish his last versions of ZETools, so I am afraid, you have no other choice, as just not to choose this option, and wait, till Ande, return to his modding activity.
waiting, waiting, waiting...

???
I don't recall needing a batch file to start XSI.
And since that seemed to make matters worse, I would put it back the way it was.
At this point, my inner-tech is saying uninstall Python, PyWin , and the mod tool. Rename the user folder, reboot, and reinstall.
>> XSI mod tool
>> Python 2.6
>> PyWin
>> re start the computer
>> ZETools
There shouldn't be any batch files involved unless you have some non-standard set up. If that's the case then I just don't know.
Before doing all that see my next post...

When you open XSI,
1 - does it have the ZETools menu?
2 - When you click it once, does it show the various other menu items like in the picture below?
3 - Does it show a dialog with the ZETools logo when you click the "info" item?
1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Yes
Ok, I think we are doing ok then.
When you click ZETools >> import MSH
Does it look something like the pic below?
-edit
If it does, then try importing a msh. Any will do.
If it shows up then you should be ok. Just don't click ZETools>>ZETools as that screen is being worked on by Ande.
The rest of the package should work fine. (It does for me)
If the import dialog doesn't show up, then something else is wrong....
yea the Import MSH option isn't in my ZETools drop-down, mine is:
1. ZETools...
2 .Export MSH
3. MSH Tools >1. Create Cloth
2.Manage Materials
4. Help...
5. Manage Extensions
Ah. From that list of menu options, I think you might have an old version.
Select the ZETools>>Help option to pull up the info screen to see what version it is.
(Another screenshot below for reference. The version number should be right below the ZETools logo.)
Either way, he switched to hosting the latest version on Github.
https://github.com/Schlechtwetterfront/xsizetools
The download link will be the button that says "Download Zip" on the bottom of the right hand column of the page.
To use it, put it's contents in your old ZETools folder in your user addon directory. (Overwrite if it asks, which it should.)
You'll need to close XSI to do it.
Start XSI back up and see if it plays nice.
-edit
oops.. forgot to add the sshot.
Okay its updated but when I try to import a MSH the same error message pops up
Well shoot.
At this point we have verified that you do have XSI installed and working, that you have python and pywin installed, and that you have the latest version of ZETools installed.
If someone has experience with OLE errors and what they might mean, good time to share.
You might consider posting in the ZETools thread on GT. They will need to know what OS you are using, as well as the versions of python and the user path (just to verify that that isn't a problem. You don't have to include your name or anything.)
Ande still check in over there and there is also quite a few folks that use ZETools there as well. So the odds of one of them knowing what might cause it are better than here. They may go over some of the same thing we did here, bear with it. Most folks don't read both forums so they don't know what you have already tried.
Perhaps this will help, if not, the issue is deeper;

ZETools, may do not to like some of the msh. One of the last version, do not like to import animated msh. Most of other versions, may do not like msh, because of some other reasons. To check, if it works at all, you have to try import different msh from assets.
Becouse of this issue, I have to import msh, with one of the old version of ZETools, and export them, with one of the new one. It is a best option for now...
