Also a thought (pardon the double post). Was gonna start trying to get a hangout going on the SWBFgamers steam chat just to kinda get some sort of group corner. I'll start logging in there by default now when I log on, but it if anyone else likes the idea of a sort of IM chat room then join the page and come on in!

I've only seen ZE randomly delete objects as I delete other objects. If you don't click the object a few times it will sometimes delete other objects at random selection. They might even appear to still be in the editor but when you save it will remove them from the WLD. The solution I've found is to always use multi-select when deleting objects, even if it's just one model. This seems to prevent the bug. Another way to remove objects by "type" or change the team assignment is to edit the WLD and search for the info.

Not sure about the 2nd issue but if you adjust the height of barriers to a low number like 0-10, it will look a lot better in the editor and you can see the objects easier so I recommend trying that.

Well it's really not seeing the objects as much as just getting better contrast. I end up relying of the lack in anti aliasing to provide me some kind of edge to draw barriers on. I usually go way up above my buildings and since a lot of my larger buildings are underground (with no roof) I try and flatten out the perspective and go up a ways. When working on less precise areas it's not the end of the world, but my map is already dark. If I could change the color of the barriers that would help too since all I end up seeing is white essentially.

I wish there was a way I could find out how the editor's render system is built, because my guess is maybe I could then find out how to strip some of the needless things out. Either way at least I have a bit of an answer to my disappearing objects, so I gotta thank you for that.  :tu:

Given that Steam is one of the only applications not bottoming out from Network issues I think it's my only choice.

SWBF1 Modding / General Advice/ZE Tweaks?
June 30, 2015, 06:18:19 PM
Hey fellas, I had some stuff to run by you all in an attempt to fix/tweak some stuff with my Zero Edit. Well first I'll start with the two things that are bugging me the most here and go from there...

1: ZE removes random objects... randomly! Just like that, I'll just be doing things (usually not even in the objects mode) and I'll find objects missing later for no apparent reason. This happens with any kind of object, usually most commonly with CPs or vehicle spawns. It seems to be consistent enough to be of an incredible annoyance, as I usually notice it when I reload a map. I'm pretty sure I can just do my whole objects detail pass in one shot at the end if I have to (just to avoid this during).

2: The awful white blinding Generic Specular shader... Yes, I'm sure anyone who's tried to use barriers with any kind of sophisticated layout will know the frustration. From a top down perspective (pretty much the only effective way of placing barriers) you get this horrible white overdraw of specular reflection on the meshes. So basically white on white with no distinction. I ask this because I feel somewhere in the ZE config, someone may have been able to finagle a way to disable/comment it out before. It's not design breaking, it's just a real bloody nuisance.

One fix I found out that manages to stop a critical visual error in ZE is running the thing on one core only. I'd really like to know how to set affinity preferences for certain applications to make the fix permanent. As this fix requires you to find ZE in the task manager each time you launch it. The visual error basically looks like a corrupted/outdated driver. But basically all the geometry triangles stretch from the center to the boarder of your screen making it impossible to use. The only other way to fix it was to restart the computer. This happened with every unit I'd ran the thing off of and made mapping impossible, until I found that nifty fix at least.

So besides my initial questions, I invite any other kinds of general ZE tips and tweaks if ya'll know of any. I seriously would love to get my hands on some kind of, "less broken" and updated version of ZE. Sadly I don't think there's any successful modified versions (at least none that I'd heard of?).

I know the topic is 30 days old but i dont think there is need for new one so ill post again here something else regarding the subject.Today i was checking some odf files in the REP sides and i found that the rep_lander have this line in his odf:

LowResModel   =   "rep_lander_lowrez"

Ok is this working?I know that the lowrez for props and buildings models is stored inside the msh high rez model except soldiers. Is it possible somehow to add lowrez model through odf file for building or prop?Because i dont have xsi and i cant add lowrez to my models which cause problems to my maps with increased visibility (when you are close they pops up in view)

You can try using that line in your ODF. There's a good chance though that was only an option coded into whatever ODF class you found that in. So worth a shot, but if you need some help with lowrez stuff I could probably give you a hand if you like (since I use XSI).

Maybe it's my hardware I use now, but I hardly ever use lowrez stuff now since (at least from this machine) it never even kicks in.

Congrats fellas!  :fist:

I never get into any kind of Alpha (as hard as I try) so you'll have to tell us all how that goes, when you're able. Dying from excitement all over again!

Now let us all express our grief and condolences in a moment of silence... ... ... .. .

This is great. Now if I could get this to automatically run on startup and minimize to tray we're set!

Most the other game trackers/overlays don't support the first SWBF, so this is perfect.

This is fantastic sir! Works quite well for me right out of the box. That says a lot coming from me right now, as I'm having a ton of networking issues to fix on this machine. So if it works on this thing, you know it's doing it's job.

Just a suggestion for a feature though, maybe besides the simple ignore option maybe have a secondary option enabled to inform you of change on a specific server. Like have the initial message of servers with X players, but then maybe have the option of running silent till the server gains any more players. I guess just additional options to be able to watch for but since I know this is an early version it's all good.

I've gotta agree with {PLA}gdh92 though, this has gotta be one of the best things I've seen since the whole thing with Xfire shutting down.

I've been playing a lot of battlefield 4 lately on the PC. I was wondering if any one would want to squad up with me because it gets kinda boring playing by yourself.

I've still got BF3 but I never bothered with 4 since I got outta touch with most the people I would have ended up playing with. I'd still play BF3 if anyone wanted to though.

Alrighty. Here's the shell mesh as promised.

Let me know if there's anything else you need done (extra shader work, tiling, etc).  :)

Xfire would (with the option set) save chats to a text file that you could access later.  If steam has this, I would like to know.

Game and server info and joining a friends game were also supported by xfire, so I didn't mention them  ;)

The big downside to Xfire was of course that it didn't actually have any games you could buy. Steam does log about a page/half page of your own sent messages (when opening the message window to said friend). It is really good for leaving  text for someone though. I've depended on it a lot in the past to send people stuff when they were offline, as you get a notification about the received messages when you log back in.

Steam summer sale 2015

Has anyone bought any game and thought either oh boy I'm glad i bought this! or I will not recommend this game!

I am trying not to impulse buy as usual so anything is appreciated.

If I could suggest anything to you (if you were looking for an interesting MP game) take a look at Natural Selection 2. I'm a dedicated player and although it's a tough player base, it's really a rewarding game if you stick with it. That is if  you don't already have it.

Not buying anything. Gaben can't make me.

Well Gabe isn't getting me because...

1: My computer is still outta commission.

2: Still broke after recently pre-ordering the new Battlefront... with gift wrapping to myself...

*not trying to derail here, but you knew it was coming* So if you aint got the money you gotta stop the Gaben...

I'm confused now, but if you say so, then...

Well the difference is there's a bit more options with Xfire since you were able to take screenshots, videos and even manage live streaming through it if you wanted to. I mean most people use Twitch now, but some of the stuff all ready to use in Xfire was nice. My combo was Steam and Xfire up till this point. For whatever games Steam didn't support, Xfire could usually track and provide an overlay (with screenshot support). Also for those of us who liked the tracker it was handy to have an application that would log your hours.

Just hoping Overwolf might have some of these features to compensate for the loss.  :bye:
